It is sooo dreary outside. Wow, for a bit of sunshine right now. They say we are still looking at some snow later today but maybe only 2-4 inches. The only bad part is the rain we have will all turn to ice. It's quite slippery out now and it's around 33-34 degrees but it will really be bad once the cold air comes through today.
Told my son last night that he would be staying home even if school is not cancelled. He drives to & from & is only there till 10:30am, so even if he rode the bus he would have no way home. Though i've never allowed my kids to ride a school bus in bad weather. He is a new driver, first winter, it's an accident waiting to happen... school was cancelled anyway though.
the drive into work was NOT pleasant, gonna be a long day... Good morning all!
I told my daughter that yesterday and she was upset. She loves going to school.... so when it was canceled I was happy.
My son will attempt anything to miss school, so I did not even let him hear me say that yesterday.
Since the beginning of preschool my 15 year old daughter, now in her second year of high school has only missed 2 days totaled. (on actually being this month when she had the flu). She cried and kept saying she could go but I didn't think they would like her going with a puke bucket next to her. lol
My 13 year old son in 8th grade is the same.
It sounds great on their part but there is many times I think I needed a pat on the back for getting them to school, because I really did not want to get up and take them in the bad weather. lol

GOOD! I would worry like crazy, him being a new driver and all!
A friend of mine up in Appleton has been sending me photos of the snow on my cell phone.....OH MY! When is it going to stop?
We are very cloudy and windy right now in NW FL, but it's supposed to be a balmy 72 later.....we'll see. I had to walk a couple dogs on the island, and I wish I would have had my camera with me......our sand is so pure white, it's windy and blowing and looks like SNOW! We have sand drifts across a lot of the roads out there.
Kind of reminds me of Wisconsin!
Ya'll have a great day......time to get back out there! Stay safe and warm everyone!!!!!
And....if anyone has any photos of that white stuff, would love to see them!

.....just another day in Paradise
Just popped a couple loaves of pepperoni bread in the oven. At least we'll have something yummy to eat. My afternoon classes cancelled...can't blame them; I wasn't looking forward to going in, either. We'll see about tonight's classes. It's supposed to stop snowing soon, isn't it?

I see the beautiful water, the beautiful sand, the beautiful weather...but where are the people?? I would have my chair down there reading a book, or walking along the water if I was there right now.
I had to be in West Allis at 10am...... it took me 1 hour 50 min to get there.
(usually a 50 min ride for me) ~ Driving i-94
In that time I counted 8 vehicles in the ditch and saw 2 spin out infront of me and end up in the ditch.
Coming back home was not any better. Took me 1 hour 40 minutes to get home.
I saw 5 vehicles in the ditch (along i-94) and 1 spin out that I saw at Hwy 67
At any time we were going 35 - 48 mph. Then there were those who still did 65. I swear they were the ones in the ditch as I went by.
Just past i-94 west where you can hop onto Hwy 16 we went down to one lane because the left lane was extreme snow covered...even the semi's left that alone.
Again at Hwy 67 we went down to one lane due to snow in the left lane.
Twice I was passed by semi's doing 65 or better. One was a fed x semi and the other the back door read Xtra. Otherwise you look in the rear view mirror or in front of you and all semi's were in the right lane poking up the interstate with the rest of us.
It's December.. the only people you see on the beaches in Florida this time of year are the "snow birds" (tourists).. natives always thought it was too cold.

I'm sure it will fun for Keith to get to see all your fish.....
Got a wonderful tour from a gracious hostess, and met Kelly's husband, and dogs and cats, too!

As the guy normally holding the photo or video camera, please, please, please be prepared to be photographed and videotaped with a well prepared "30-second commercial" in which you say hello, compliment the hosts, make a wonderful observation about the event, and even thank the picture-taker for recording the event.
All too often I see what would have been wonderful pictures except for the 'hand' someone put in front of them or whatever. It would be so much better if the subjects "sucked it up" and helped the chronicler get the spirit of the event captured, succinctly and well...and offered to capture them in return.
I've dealt with many subjects complaining of the camera(s) - but when looking back at images (moving or still pictures) from 20 years ago, I'm sure most subjects would like to have back the outstretched hand as a 'stop' sign in favor of a smile - or the turning and walking away from the camera video replaced by a warm smile and clear, warm marking of the occasion.
I'd like to have more pictures of myself from the birthdays and graduations and anniversaries and holidays, too. Camera shy or not, I believe 90% of it is the attitude that you carry into the situation, and I hope you'll consider carrying a very warm attitude, a "make the very best of it" approach, into your next gathering. You'll make at least one or two people happy now, and likely many more happy twenty years from now.

The only problem I'm still having is my bubbler tool bar keeps getting removed. I have not put it back since it was removed yesterday.
Hope you'll try again!

A personal observation I've been meaning to make: I don't like that my kids are so often sequestered to their own rooms, with their computers and TVs, and video games... I miss doing even the passive watching of (quality) programming with them; just having them in the room...rather than in the house, but not really "there".... Maybe this is a chance to force them to spend more time with us.

I put nearly 500 miles of driving in - and 80% of it was white-knuckle drive time. A wonderful trip for the people I met and stuff we accomplished, but NOT fun driving. By the time I got back last night I was fried. Good to see everyone chatting away here in my absence. I look forward to catching up with the rest of the site!
Dave that tower has been in use since WW II. It is used to test new radar. The Navy seals drop off there at night about 2 AM to practice.
Due to military reasons I can not say where I am but if you do not tell any one Ill tell you. It is on the Gulf. It is where Elvis vacationed and yes part of Jaws the sequel was filmed here. Now I have really said way way to much.

Yes I have and it's good. I wish I could find all those good flavors of cappuccino that the gas stations have, but the stores just don't offer all those.
The assortment of hot chocolates I have are from Target. They came in a 4 flavor pack. You can find some good food items at Target if you want to put together a gift basket.

NOOOOO!!!! How about they don't make us sit on a stool in front of the video camera all by ourselves to open a gift. Even without the camera I don't like sitting on a stool in front of everyone to open a gift. I think a better idea would be to have everyone sit in a circle and if they insist on using a camera, just move the camera, not the person to that dreaded stool. Better yet, why not just take photos. Those can be passed around anytime and having a photograph taken doesn't bother me.
Most of us go up to open our gift and get up there as fast as we can. Like I said, I'm not the only one that doesn't like it.
Oh I am totally with you on that one blue. Like I said before I am the one behind the camera taking the pictures and having fun, put me in front and it's all over with. For whatever reason I can think of maybe a handful of pictures I've taken through out my adult life that actually turned out good lol. I just don't do pictures well for some reason, I'm always caught with my eyes closed, my mouth wrong, or something weird. lol
