OK, I survived the cold. lol And now that I'm home and it's sooo quiet in here it was worth the trip to school. Moody teens this morning made it OK to run out in the cold. Thank goodness they didn't not close school today. lol
Really it was very cold but warming the van up for 20 minutes first made it OK to get out. But if anyone has to be out for any longer than a few minutes, please bundle up with a scarf, hat and gloves.
Burrrrr....I so did not want to get up this morning from my nice warm blankets.
That nice warm blanket did me in last night, especially in our new recliner which is so soft that it's like laying on a cloud. My husband uses it a lot more than I do. That was a great Christmas present.
I went to Farm & Fleet yesterday and couldn't believe how many toys they still had from Christmas. As you know, they only have the toy dept. during that time of the year. They usually sell out pretty fast. I saw some candy and other treats also. I bought the last bag of sponge candy. Haven't had that in a while. They still had popcorn and snack tins left. Usually that kind of stuff disappears quickly.
Tell me why I am up and getting ready to go out in the frigid cold to take kids to school in an hour from now??
Why do you take the kids to school? Don't they have a bus route there or is it just not cool for kids to ride the bus anymore?

This is suppose to be the coldest day we have had in over 2 years and I am sure we had a cold day somewhere in the last 2 years.
I don't think they closed the schools here either. It was -14 when I woke up at 7:00 this morning.

I haven't been out of my house since last Thursday when we went to the casino. And I don't have any plans to go anywhere any time soon. It's kind of weird though. Since I've started going through menopause, whenever it's cold like this, I am really warm and have to turn the heat down. Once it starts to warm up outside, like in the 30s, then I get cold and turn the heat up.

When I was growing up, it was always a tradition to have a big bowl of sponge candy around at Christmas time. I didn't care for it much back then because it seemed like I would always get a tooth ache when ever I ate it. We also used to have a bowl of nuts that we had to crack open in order to eat them. That was fun!
Sponge candy isn't something I'd want very often. Once a year is all I can handle and I don't even get it every Christmas. I almost think it has too much chocolate on and you can't taste the inside that much. Just something we got as kids and it reminds me of that.
I remember the mixed nuts. What did you call the Brazil nuts? LOL I remember my mom jokingly saying they were also called "'N' word toes" by some people. That is pretty bad.

My kids are going to a Charter High School so it's not like a neighborhood school where it's easy to take a bus. We do have a city bus but it picks up so early and then they still have to do a walk to get to school from the drop off. Unless they pick up the bus that goes to the high school on the north side and then I think there is a city bus that leaves from there and goes downtown which is close to the school. Or... lol...as you can see I really am not sure. It's just easier to get up and get them there myself I guess.
As far as coming back home. Again there is options but they get out at different times depending on what day they have and what after school thing they are in and if it coordinates with the bus route that comes over by our house.
So again, as long as I have been here anyways it's just easier to pick them up and know they are getting a ride and not missing a bus or having to walk in bad weather or whatever. And I know they are safe, which is the important thing.
Ahhh...it's so nice and quiet here today. My youngest son is off to his last day of work before heading back to college on Sunday and the hubby is at his continuing education class at the Kalahari in the Dells for the day. I had thought about going with him and spending the day hanging out at the resort and maybe going to a movie or the casino, but I was just too tired to go. Besides, I really need to start working on getting the paperwork ready for our accountant to do our taxes in two weeks...and I also plan on getting a nap in sometime this afternoon before they all get home.
I haven't been out of my house since last Thursday when we went to the casino.
Last Thursday?? That's over a week ago? Wow, I could not do that. Maybe it would be fun for a day or two, almost like a vacation from running all over all the time. But after that I would get stir crazy and have to get out. Wouldn't matter if it was just to ride around the city, check out the lake, and come back home. I would just have to be out.

I read that the temps have to be either 20 degrees below 0 to close the school. OR minus 30 degrees below wind chills I think.
I also think it depends if it is something that will be around all day with snow involved too. Our cold spell with wind chills was suppose to be until 10 a.m. before the wind was suppose to get better and it's really very sunny out and no snow. So I guess they figured everyone can get to school and it will be better when they get out.

Ummm...ya that is what we referred to them as too. But, again, we never thought of that as a derogatory term back then. I guess maybe it's because we had never been around any black people to know that it wasn't politically correct. In fact, I didn't meet any African-American people until I was in high school. There just weren't any in our area. I knew my best friend for over a year before I found out that she was half black and half Indian. I had always thought that she just had a nice tan. LOL She still is my BFF today.

Oh...that makes sense then. When we were kids, we lived at the end of a very long gravel driveway that we had to walk down to catch the bus. Back then they didn't go up the driveways like they do now. There were numerous times we had to run half way down the road if the bus came early because he didn't wait long for you to get there. If it was really cold out, like today, then my mom would drive us down so we could wait in the car instead of standing outside. She never had her license so was afraid to go out on the road. She just backed the car all the way up the driveway instead after we left. She got pretty good at driving backwards. LOL

I don't mind it in the winter time. In fact, I prefer it since I don't like the cold and the snow. But, if the weather was nice out, I would definitely be outside every day!

I couldn't stay in the house that long either. After a couple of days I go nuts. I honestly don't know how my husband could stand it when he was in the hospital and rehab center. He went over 30 days without getting to go outside. He was at those places for a total of 6 weeks. The only time he got outside was the few times they went on their outings to the store during his last week. He should have just kept running and left them sit. Those nurses at the group home still tick me off so bad. So many rules and laws they broke, but that's another story.
We used this one a lot as kids also, however we used "catch a tiger" and "if he roars, let him go". I later in life heard it said with the N word in place of tiger & was pretty disgusted when my kids came home saying it that way. I put a stop to that quick. I imagine I had never heard it that way before because I grew up around a lot of different races & in some ghetto areas lol
Even though I grew up in WI, my Mom was from East St Louis and we spent long vacations there in the summer and Christmas. That's where I remember playing/singing that song. Grandma's home where my Mom grew up was where we would stay and all my E St Louis friends were black or Latino. We said "tiger" and "roar" too! I came back home and my white friends scolded me for singing it WRONG. I do believe there was a tussle mixed in somewhere that school year with a boy who called me a "bleep"-lover over that song. (he got the worst of it)
My Mom never tolerated any kind of talk like that in our home. That was back in the 60's.

Good Morning. Looked outside and saw snow again. Yuck. It was pretty around Christmas time but that thrill is now long gone. I'm tired of shoveling the cra*. lol
Anyways, hope everyone has a great weekend. All I hear is everyone talking about the big game for Sunday. I am sooo not into football (sorry) that I actually asked someone..is it Superbowl or something? lol Oops...
Anyways, it's the huge Bears/Packers game and being right here on the state line of Illinois and Wisconsin you better believe it's a huge deal when these two teams play.
Well, better go scrounge around for some breakfast...maybe toes will put a few things on this morning? I'm not in the mood to make anything and I think I will just grab a big mug of OJ.
No time for me to make breakfast, have to head to Ft Walton Beach to get my car serviced.....I'll have a full spread delivered by Waffle House
Time to decide what I'm going to cook for the Packer Game tomorrow, my son joins me and we scream and yell and eat. Hmm, maybe I'll smoke a pork shoulder and have pulled pork BBQ? But they have huge 7 bone prime ribs on sale at Publix CHEAP! I could roast one and have lots of leftovers to freeze for French Dips? Could be a good investment, only $5.49 a #! But then there's 10/12 Shrimp at the fish market on sale for $4.99. Scampi? Steamed? Grilled? Decisions.
GO PACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ya'll have a great weekend!

So what's everyone doing today? I've been watching a marathon of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on tv all afternoon and dozing on and off. Now, I'm waiting for my sister and her husband to show up to drop off the check from the sale of my son's old car. My BIL just put it outside his shop and someone bought it right away. Some guy got it for his teenage son, but he won't have it for long since he's already wrecked two vehicles since last October!
I kind of wanted to go out tonight but the hubby is being very moody today so that's not going to happen. I guess I could go grocery shopping or something. Whoopee. Oh well, only a short time before I go on the Sister's Retreat at the Dells. I'm SOOO looking forwards to that!
Expecting freezing drizzle overnight here.. was 49 degrees on my way to the store.
Compared to the last few days, 49 degrees would be a total heat wave here.
But as I was saying to my neighbor over the fence last night as he was out with his dog, and I just arrived home, that we certainly can tell we are Wisconsinites since we both had no hats, gloves, etc. on. lol And we stood out there talking and didn't really mind the cold. You just get use to it after a cold spell has hung around for a few days.
I don't think I ever get used to the cold. I do wear gloves though since I'm doing all the driving lately. I try to avoid hats unless shoveling. That's why I keep my hair long so I can keep my head warm in winter.
The only time I wear a coat during the winter is if I have to go over a block walking somewhere.

I've walked in blizzards with an open coat.. don't forget I lived in western NY over 30 years.. and we may not get the snow here but we get freezing rain and sub-zero wind chill temps. I'd rather have snow than ice any day.
