I am so against the transition.. I have cable so don't have to worry but what about all the handheld tv's, for example? Obviously a converter box would be impractical so those units will be useless? I used to have some old vintage tv's and battery operated tv's that you might use for camping.. those will be unuseable as well, I'm guessing.
As for the coupons, they should have sent them to every household without having to request them.
I have neighbors that I'd bet $100 still have no idea about it or how or where to get a converter or coupon.
Me too....I dont want it, but have no choice.... If I dont want to hear my kid complaining that his TV dont work any more I need to get him a box.....
I have Dish Network so my big TV is fine....but it's the kids TV that wont work any more.
I wouldn't even know where to start with reformatting. I've never had to do anything like that. Never had anything serious with my computer. I think I would cry if that happened. No, there wouldn't be crying, but there would be lots of yelling and swearing. There's no crying in computer problems. And there's no crying in baseball, either, lol.
I'm just glad I have Smart Kid who can do all this stuff for me. Sometimes I can get him on his break at work and he can even talk me thru things with out a computer infront of him saying "you should see a button on the right side that says" OR "the third tab at the top says....."
Anyone hear if the semi driver on i-94 had a heart attach before crashing his semi? I'm wondering if he had a heart attack and that's why he crashed or if he happened to hit a patch of black ice.....
I saw the truck first hand....it was a horrible sight to see. The cab was all the way up under the bridge. I drove away shaking!
That's right...think I'll cancel my lessons for today. I'm sure my students would understand that I'm spearheading a major protest against the weather and they'd probably admire my civic-mindedness. Or simple-mindedness. Whatever. As long as I don't have to go out today.

Morning everyone. ..
Just trying to read and play catch up with the comments here. Doesn't take very long and a person can get really behind.
I agree that I think everyone should just get a coupon or better yet, just make them available at your nearest library or post office where you can just go in and pick one up rather than sending for one when you realize you need it.
I didn't think about hand held t.v.'s. Bought a nice color one not to many years ago.
Guess that isn't going to work now, and also the small one we use in the camper. What a bummer.
This is a good time to remind everyone to put draft doggies in front of their doors. You know the little stuffed things that you lay on the floor in front of your outside door to keep the draft from coming in.
Also, one thought is to turn your ceiling fans on 'reverse' so it can bring the heat down from the ceiling.
Check your basement windows for leaks, and cover them with plastic. Keeps the basement warmer which helps with your floors on the main level.
Also, check your furnace filters and change them so you start with a fresh one for the winter season. I am thinking strongly about buying one of the new ones that filters out dust, allergens, etc. Catches way more dust then the normal cheaper ones. Suppose to last up to 3 months too. They are much higher (about $13.00 at Walmart) but worth it if you want cleaner air to breathe.
Good morning! I think we should all stay home today in protest against the cold weather. Think Mother Nature will listen?
Ahhhh if only I saw this earlier. lol To late now to help with the protest. Already been up and out since about 7:00 this morning. Just got back in and have to leave again in a few hours. I'll be in and out all day.
Wiki says: The baboons are African Old World monkeys belonging to the genus Papio. There are five species, which are some of the largest non-hominid members of the primate order; only the Mandrill and the Drill are larger. .....two species of Mandrill and Drill (genus Mandrillus) were grouped in the same genus, and these Old World monkeys are still often referred to as baboons in everyday speech.

Is that the same one that closed down part of 94 yesterday?
23 degrees here. I woke up at 2am and never did get back to sleep so blowing off an appt this morning as I'm a bit incoherent from sleep deprivation!
Have my thermostat set to 73, too cold with it off and too hot with it on. I normally like it around 68 or 69 degrees but don't want the bird to get chilled.
