Yay, I got first place with my costume last night again. Feels good to have so many people go nuts over it. I'm keeping that one for a few more years. It's earning me some real money.
Congratulations Blue! I would love to see a picture of it!
We spent all day Saturday with our son at Platteville because it was family day. When we got home I wanted to go out but my hubby was tired so he went to bed and I went out by myself. I wore my old lady sitting on the toilet costume and ended up getting second prize. A girl who was dressed in a skimpy Dorothy costume won first place because more of the guys yelled for her when they did the voting...ya, no surprise there! I had fun anyhow since I knew lots of people who were there.
Last week a trailer was stolen from the U-haul place here and was used in a burglary of the Richland Center Wal Mart where they stole over $6,500 worth of items. The suspects were spotted by an off duty officer at another Wal Mart in Prairie du Chien and they were arrested. I wonder if they were casing the store to do the same thing there?
My BFF works at the Wal Mart in Richland Center and she said they must of had an inside accomplice because the doors to the garden center where they came in are always kept locked. Either they are pretty brave or pretty stupid to steal from Wal Mart because most of their stores are open 24 hours now. Plus, don't they realize they are going to be caught on the security cameras and they will eventually be identified? Duh!
Morning all. Well it's Monday, start of another week. Just sitting here thinking how quickly time is going by and soon Thanksgiving will be here again, then Christmas. I'm not ready for all of that right now. Sometimes I think they goofed and Christmas should be Jan 25th. Nothing really happens in Jan and it gives more time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

That's the way it goes these days. That always makes me mad when that happens. Good thing some judges have a few brains and know enough to choose based on originality instead of the amount of skin showing.
It also happens when the judges pick their friends in a dumb costume instead of the ones that deserve to win. Had that happen to us before. There is one bar in town here that picked one of the bartenders to win the contest. This happened 2 years in a row. Isn't that stupid? That's like the bar keeping it's own beer. I think they had beer prizes for the 2nd and 3rd places, which is what the bartender won. The point of a quarter barrel prize is to get a group of customers in the bar to spend money, because they will also be buying mix drinks or shots since not all will be beer drinkers. The other point is to get people in there hoping they will come back again if they had fun.
I also hate when rental and store bought costumes win a prize. Those of us who took the time to make a costume should be first picks for prizes.
You can tell prize winning is important to me. It's not so much about the prize itself, I just like the feeling of winning. It feels good to have your hard work rewarded.

Oh well.
I like that idea, but who wants to shop in January? How about we ban Christmas gift giving for a year and let people enjoy Christmas as it should be. I know, I know the stores need to make money, but it would be a nice idea, wouldn't it?
Someone posted on facebook that it has been announced that Thanksgiving has been canceled and we are going straight to Christmas. Isn't that the truth?
Cindy, my husband was commenting all night long about the sleazy costumes that girls wore and would say in a sarcastic voice how original that was. He would say, Look, it's a sexy pirate girl, a sexy witch, a sexy vampire, a sexy bee, a sexy school girl and so on. Then he would roll his eyes at them.
If you go to the skimpy costumes for the girls mostly. It wasn't always like this. It's gotten bad in the last 5 to 10 years. I don't remember many girls wearing the sleazy outfits so much 10 years ago. I guess they don't care what kind of impression they make. Those are the same girls that will get mad when the guys stare at them or grab them.

I agree. They should have separate categories for store bought costumes and those that were home made. The place we went to on Halloween a couple years ago did that. Plus they had different categories such as most original, most creative, most scary and most sexy. I think most bars just don't want to have to pay out too much money or prizes.

That's right. A girl I've known for several years was there Saturday night dressed in an almost see through French maid outfit. She made the comment about how all the guys hitting on her was getting annoying. Well DUH! I guess she wasn't too annoyed since she left with one of them before the costume judging started. I'm sure she would've won first place if she'd of stayed.
The store bought costumes often look cheaply made and are expensive. You better plan on wearing a few years in a row to get your money's worth.
Some bars have categories, but that can work against you too. One year this bar had sexiest costume and scariest costume. I think there was a group category too. Both my husband and I had humorous costumes. Where does that fit? On top of that we were told by the manager that one of us would at least get a prize. I know someone else said that too that worked there. We got nothing. The costumes that won were lame and unoriginal.
I don't mind losing against a good costume, but when it's clearly a crappy costume, it makes me mad. Then people will come up to you after that and say you got screwed and should have won.
One bar we used to go to for Halloween always had lots of prizes. They gave out to 15 places for costumes. It made people feel good because all the good costumes at least got something out of it. Others in costume that didn't win got t-shirts, free drinks or other promotional items like key chains, posters, flashing pins, etc. Everybody walked away with something. This place is big and attracts a lot of people so they can afford to do it. Always had fun at their halloween parties. I should have gone there this year. The total prize give out was over $2000. We won a couple of good prizes there in the past. Some really good costumes there too.

I am definitely not looking forward to winter and being stuck in the house all the time. I enjoyed summer more this year than any other since I was able to be outside in the garden so much.
We have something going on almost every weekend this month. That will make the time seem to go by even faster and Christmas will be here before we know it. I have decided that I'm cutting way back on the gifts this year and are only giving one present to each person and that includes the grandchildren too.

I don't think I looked forward to it since I was about 12. No fun after that.

I think a lot of people have cut back. I'd like to stop giving gifts all together, but don't think the others would go for it. Some would, but not all. Even this year I'm not doing all this cookie baking. Instead I found some easy recipes that either don't require baking or just need things melted on the stove top. I don't want to spend 8 hours in a kitchen like last year baking and on clean up. My husband's family just doesn't appreciate all my time and effort. So they are getting less time and less effort on my part this year. Keep it simple, Silly!
Waiting for UPS to deliver an HDMI cable for my new monitor.. got it off eBay for $2.98 with free shipping. Take that, Walmart! Saved $15 or so..
!
I just bought a new cable for my camera off Amazon. With shipping it was around $6 and some odd cents. Kodak wanted $25-30 on their website, not including postage. Take that Kodak!
Yeah, it can get ridiculous.. I always go to eBay first to look, then Amazon. Have had good results with both in the past. Always save money.

Well, I hope I don't get sick tonight because I just tasted some pie fill that's been in my pantry for like 3 or 4 years. I ended up throwing it out just in case it was bad. It tasted and smelled like booze and not in a good way. Had the fermented smell to it.
Anyway I made some raspberry bars (with a fresh can of pie fill) with a white cake mix and oatmeal crust. Hope it's good.
I did pretty much the same thing last week.. opened an old can of apple pie filling and ate some of it as a snack. It actually didn't taste bad but as I'm sure it was way past its expiration date, I threw the rest of it out.

I did my civic duty before my chiropractor appointment. I was so glad he had a cancellation today so I could get in this morning. I woke up with such bad pain in my right shoulder blade that it hurt to even take a deep breath and I could hardly raise my arm let alone lift anything with it! The chiropractor couldn't pop it even after practically breaking my back by trying three times...that's what it felt like anyhow! Then he put those little electric shock thingys on it for about 15 minutes. I'm supposed to go back tomorrow night right before my hubby's appointment but I think I will wait to see how I'm feeling in the morning. When I first came home, it was hurting much worse than before I went, but now it's almost bearable. Needless to say, I didn't do much but rest and take a nap in the recliner.
I am concerned about my neighbors who were in the nursing home for awhile until today. Their daughter told another neighbor that her parents decided they didn't want to stay in there any longer because their Medicare had run out and they didn't want to pay the cost on their own. Supposedly, it had cost around $6,000 for the time the two of them were there.
The problem is that neither of them are capable of taking care of themselves let alone each other. The husband can barely walk with a cane and he was the one who was falling down a lot when he was home before and we were always going over to help him up. He also has diabetes and has a sore on his foot because he's losing circulation in it and it needs to be cleaned and re-bandaged every day. His wife can barely get around with a walker and can't do much at all. They don't want to pay anyone to come in to help them and they don't want to have Meals on Wheels bring food in either because they say they don't like what they bring. Three of their kids live within an hour of here but they won't come stay with them even though one doesn't work at all. When the daughter was asked who was going to plow their driveway this winter, she said her dad will do it like he always did before. I sure hope he doesn't drive because my neighbor also told me that he didn't seem to be aware of where he was nor understood what she was talking about when she asked him a question.
I am beginning to wonder if their kids were the ones who wanted them to come home instead of keeping them in the nursing home because they don't want to see their inheritance dwindle? My hubby thinks maybe they wanted to come back so they could die at home instead of in the nursing home. Either way, it's definitely a sad situation.
