I put the ads together in Photoshop and then convert them to pdf. I used to have an old version of Illustrator, which I loved, but it fried along with my old hard drive and I can't get it to install under Vista. So...I'll just use Photoshop; it's not worth the investment for the latest Illustrator--we don't create THAT many ads. But I sure would love to play with the latest version.
I love using Illustrator and Photoshop. I don't get to use those much at work, at least not to play with things. Mostly for simple corrections. I use InDesign and Quark a lot. I hate using Quark, too. It's such a buggy piece of software and so generic. We only use it for older files. Any new files we use InDesign.
I'm sure I confused a lot of people here that don't recognize all these names.
I've looked at InDesign...but have to admit it's WAY over my head. Isn't it more for multi-page documents/brochures? Or am I confused about what it's for?
InDesign is for doing page layouts. It's where all the Illustrator and Photoshop files get placed, plus that's where you add your text. Quark does the same thing, but not so easily and with far less options. The difference between Quark and InDesign are like the difference between driving a Yugo and a Cadillac.
I'm self taught in InDesign. I just took everything I knew from the other programs and taught myself. I used a book to learn from as well. I'm also mostly self taught in Photoshop, but I did take 2 Photoshop classes as well.
I see...do you think it's easier to add text with InDesign? The text options have improved in Photoshop, but still, that's not really what it's meant for. If I have to make a brochure or something with LOTS of text, I use (hate to admit this) MS Publisher. It's the closest thing I have to the right software. Maybe I'll take another look at InDesign. That might be more what I need rather than Illustrator. What do you think?
Love the Paradise video, Carol. Suuuuu-ey! (That's how you call a pig, for those of you who didn't grow up on a farm.)
Thanks!! Did you notice the different looking critters in there???
Several were critters from Austrailia. Got a few friends over there that do wildlife rehab.... that critter in the blue blankie ~ that's an Australian Opossum
Notice the different look to some of those pigs???? Yup Australian Pigs

She rehabs things like Walabee, Kangaroo, Wombats
I did indeed notice that they were odd-looking critters. Thought they were just somebody's special breed of piggies. Ha! Shows how much I know about critters. Walabees, Kangaroos, Wombats...has a nice ring to it...I think we could make a theme song out of that. But we'd have to change it to Walabees, KangaWoos, Wombats. Yeah, that's better...

Wow, a person falls asleep for a few hours and wakes up and can be sooo behind on this forum! lol This is so great how the pages are adding up and up here.
No kidding! Set a record or came close with posts yesterday...in the ***Milestones*** thread.

Quark used to be the go-to program for desktop publishing. No more.
In-Design the only one to consider now.

Work all day, the Y after work, then a fish fry. Home a half hour ago and likely to be snoozin' anytime!
Hope you all enjoy an extra-fine weekend!
Big auction starting here tomorrow - hope you'll all help spread the news!
OK...I did not want to admit to this but I am very lost on this pineapple thing. What is so funny??? Maybe I am not seeing something that everyone else is? Or is this a joke to act like there is a joke so others (like me) feel as if they are going crazy trying to figure it all out??? LOL LOL
Really now, all I have is a picture of a pineapple man, no animation. Are you suppose to click on this little guy or something? Can someone link it back on again to see if I can get it to work?
It's almost time for the first bubbler's auction to start!!
So does anyone have their eye on a certain item(s) yet?? Remember even if you don't see something you may be able to use, bid on a fish related thing and when you win just pay for it and donate the item back to Kelly. I'm sure she can use both the $$ and the item.

How did I miss this post yesterday?
MS Publisher will work for doing layouts. I've never used it or even seen it, so I don't know how user friendly it is. Most printing places won't have that program on their computers and that might be an issue when getting it printed. I know I can't even open those files on my computer at work. If you can make a pdf file off your Publisher file, your printing people can use that.
