Well, it's 1:00 a.m. and no one is around here tonight. I fell asleep earlier reading a book and just woke up. I hate when I do that since I never require much sleep and now I'm up, and have to be quiet since everyone else in the house is sleeping. lol

Wow, everyone must be sleeping in this morning. lol Well if you all have the same dreary looking day outside that we have, it is a good morning to lay around. The reports say we will have around 39 degrees and rainy all day. Well it's better than the snow I think they are predicting we may get tonight when the temps drop.

I did that yesterday afternoon too. Only I fell asleep in the recliner watching tv around 4:00 and didn't wake up until 7:00...just in time to watch the SAG awards. I loved Betty White's Life Time Achievement award speech. She is one funny lady! I ended up staying up until 2:00 after that because I wasn't tired.

Yes we also are getting all that darn rain! I think I would prefer the snow but just not lots of it. At least the guys wouldn't be tracking all this mud into my house!
She is totally fluent in Spanish as she went to a duo language School her entire elementary years. She can read, write and speak the language and learned the culture and even Spanish Dancing and her group put on several performances years ago.
She also took French for a few years and was able to go to Quebec, Canada which was a great trip for her.
That's nice that they have the opportunity to learn those languages. Where I live it's always been Spanish, Latin or German as the choices for high school classes. That's why it was odd for me to find out people took French in high school since I didn't think other cities offered that in Wis.
I took a year of German when I was in high school. I got good grades even if I didn't understand what I was doing half the time. I think there was a lot of lucky guesses when it came to sentence structure. The whole gender thing was confusing. Different words were used before or words had different endings depending on if the word was female, male or neutral. How the heck do I know if the chair, dog or tree are male or female? lol
As for me, I don't have the urge to learn another language. That's a lot of work to learn one and you need a use for it or you'll end of forgetting things. I have my hands full with trying to keep up with all the graphic design software and other info, plus having to always learn more new software programs. Like I said, we need to know 52 software programs.

At that time I was just leaving the bar after watching a band that we've seen for a few years now. They are good. It was at a little bar in Waukesha. Never been there before, but really nice place. They had cool beer glasses, that is, if you ordered certain beers you got the cool glasses. Dang, I wanted to order a Pilsner Urquell for the cool glass, but I hate that beer. Why is it more fun to drink things out of cool looking glasses?

I love Betty White. She comes up with the funniest things. It's not just what she says, but how she says it.
I finally accomplished today what I've been wanting to do for weeks. I cleaned out my office and the closet in there so I could get another filing cabinet in it. I already had three in there. I also cleaned off my husband's desk and the shelf in the closet where he had a ton of magazines and papers! I swear that man never throws anything away! I threw out most of the old truck and car magazines and newspapers to the recycling bin. The things that looked important like repair manuals, etc., were moved to some shelves in the basement. He hasn't been in the office yet but I know I will hear about it the next time he can't find something. I just can't stand clutter though.
Tomorrow I will move some of the files to a smaller cabinet from the big four drawer one so I can put more files in there. After being in business for so long, they were packed full! It bugs me when my office is so messy. I may get more work done now that it's a nicer environment to be in.
LOL sounds like you need to go paperless in your office. I can't stand clutter either. Every now and then I get in the mood where I just start going through stuff and tossing it out. Yesterday I took a few more clothing items downstairs to be donated. I'm sure I'll will putting more down there soon. Then I went out today and bought 2 new pairs of dress pants and a pair of purple velour sweatpants. I'm still not sure if I want to keep the one pair of pants. I was just so sick of looking and trying to find something that I liked the way it fit that I just said the heck with it and bought them.

I would LOVE to go paperless but since we require customer signatures on everything, we would still have to keep the majority of the paper copies anyhow. Plus we don't dare throw out anything we have for the government offices that we work with in case, heaven forbid, they can't find their copies...and that does happen quite often.
So, I can't go paperless. Shirtless maybe, since my office IS in my home, but not paperless. LOL
Well my son's new college room mate from Australia finally showed up yesterday. The poor kid ended up getting bounced around on different flights for three days because the first flight got half way to the US and had to turn around due to mechanical problems! I guess he wasn't too upset because he got bumped up to first class then.
My son said "Josh" seems really nice and he's going to take him around Platteville to show him the "town" this afternoon. This is his first trip to the US and he wants to see lots of things. One of the things he mentioned was that he wanted to go to an African-American Baptist Church because he wants to experience the kind of singing they do there. I think he will be surprised to find that most of the Baptist members in this part of the state are predominantly white...not black like they show in the movies and on tv. My son also said he definitely has the Australian accent like the guy in Crocodile Dundee and it's interesting to hear him talk. They will be coming home some time early next month for a weekend so we will get to meet him then.
Sounds like your son lucked out in the roomate department! Some people get annoyed with an accent after a while, but not I, unless its PR accent, i dislike that accent bad! Jamaican would be my favorite.
They do have African-American Baptist churches, i believe there use to be one in the Dells, but i have only been to one & it was in Madison, when i first moved here 5 yrs ago... couldn't tell you where or what it is called now. It is very different than a regular church service. It's not called African-American Baptist or anything, but it was obviously the case... I loved it, Lots of jumping around, loud music, very upbeat & by far the best & friendliest service i have ever attended.
Misty had to walk the two blocks to work today because we were on E.. she drives her clients all over the place then we get stuck for gas.. ugh! Well, she gets paid tomorrow..
I would walk to work everyday, if it was only a couple blocks. I wouldn't give them the chance to ask me to drive them all over, knowing they wont offer to help with the gas. I have had friends like that, not cool.
Is the Ponderosa near West Towne Mall still there? We used to go there when ever we went to Madison. It kind of went down hill on the choices and up on the price so we quit going there. The one in the Wisconsin Dells is a bit better but still not at good as the buffet at Ho Chunk Casino.
We lost the Ponderosa on the West side a couple yrs ago. We had already lost the East side one before then... I use to love going there for breakfast buffet & dinner as well, with the kids.
The nearest for us now is The Dells, Beaver Dam or Janesville

Hi Latina! I have friends from both Puerto Rico and Jamaica but they've been in the US for so many years that their accents aren't as heavy as most. Now the husband of another friend of mine who is from Canada has been here for over 30 years and I still have trouble understanding his French-Canadian accent.
I will have to let my son know about that church in the Dells. He will probably be bringing his room mate home during spring break in March and maybe they can go check it out then. It sounds like what he was wanting to go to. Thanks for the info.

That's too bad. We used to go there a lot when the kids were younger. We also liked going to Old Country Buffet but we don't get to the east side of Madison much anymore. We used to stop at the one in Janesville too when ever we were down in that area. The kids loved that they had so many different food to choose from.

Not sure what the one in the Dells was called, but it was back when i lived in the Portage area 7 yrs ago or so. Also, Mountain Faith Church (In the Dells) is another idea (very money hungry church), however it is much like what i described above as well... I wouldnt give them your address or phone number on the welcome card, but if your sons friend wants a good African-American setting (all races attend, the service is just in AA style), i'd suggest taking him there.
I dont like the PR accent, this is why... Their spanish dialect is way way different than ours (Mexican), i cant stand it because it's like if you cut off the end of a mexican word, you get a PR word & that drives me batty lol Being fluent in Spanish, it tends to annoy me. Then when they speak english it has that same effect... seems they arent finishing words! Jamaicans sound out every letter in pronouncing words, that i find kinda cool, not to mention sexy hot

Janesville had a shakeys up until a few yrs ago & i loved going there. I have been to the Ponderosa in Janesville only once & the food was cold, buns were hard & steak wasnt well done as i had asked, so i waited longer for a new steak. Just a bad experience all around. the dells i like.
I can't even imagine trying to learn Chinese or Japanese. I heard it's very hard to learn. I don't know how they can read all the characters or write them. Isn't a different character used for each word? If that's the case, than how do they type? 8,000 keys on the keyboard lol.
I don't know much about the Chinese language, but in Japan, there are, I believe, if I recall correctly, 3 different "alphabets", if you will, or styles of writing. My sister-in-law is Japanese and I grew up with her and she used to show me the different ways to write in Japanese. 90% use the "easy" way. I can speak a little Japanese, but I understand and comprehend the spoken word 90% of the time. Kind of funny when I run into people who speak Japanese and they think I can't understand them!
When I used to tend bar (back in the day when I was younger, and well....cuter-ha!) I was working a convention for techies and I had all these Japanese guys at the bar and they started talking smack about me and I let them go on and on.....then I busted them.
They were discussing my "attributes, if you will. Geez!
Fun to call them out!
I have fun at Sushi bars because I can converse with the Japanese Chefs.
I have a ton of Japanese stuff at home, I still eat with chopsticks daily, grew up learning to use them, my SIL pretty much raised me since my Mom worked every day. Sort of like a Japanese Nanny. Now I am hungry for Sushi!

Good morning!
Didn't anyone watch football yesterday? Wow, what a day! Geaux Saints!
(my #2 team, Packers are always #1)
It's crazy here with the Saints win, I live in Saints country! Even though this is FLORIDA, it's NW FL and we are closer to NOLA and there are a ton of Cajuns around here.
Everyone is excited about the Saints going to the Super Bowl.
The sun finally came out this morning, we have been having some horrible storms, glad that's over.
Hope everyone has a great day! Later........oh yeah, WAFFLES for breakfast! Help yourselves, strawberries and whipped cream on top?

I remember you mentioned the Mountain Faith Church before. Some friends of my husband go to a church in the Dells that's on the road right by Ho Chunk. It's a branch of the church in Milwaukee where a guy came in and shot a bunch of people a few years back. These friends of his have a son who dresses in all black (Goth) and he won't go to the church but sits in their van in the parking lot during service instead. The minister recently asked them to quit bringing him because they were afraid he might do something like the guy in Milwaukee did.

I've never heard my PR friend speak her native language. But then maybe she is and I don't realize it. Her husband is from Mexico and I just assumed she was speaking to him in Mexican, but since I don't speak either one, she could be speaking PR.
I also have a friend from Moldova who speaks five languages. I've only heard her talk in English and her native Ukrainian though. It's fun to try to read some of her posts on Facebook when she talks to friends from other countries.

Nope...no football watching here. I did hear that the Vikings lost though.
Thanks for breakfast Toes! I was getting kind of hungry.
So what's the weather like there right now? We are getting some snow here and could get a couple of inches or more today. I am soooo ready for Spring to get here!

That's awesome that you can speak and understand Japanese Toes! So funny that the guys in the bar didn't think you knew what they were saying about you. The looks on their faces when they found out must have been priceless!

They actually said that to the parents?? that is some kind of crazy! I wouldn't take that sitting down, if it were my kid.
Why were they having him go to church at all, if he sits outside anyway?

When i speak to PR people in spanish, I do understand their every word. We can understand eachother, to us it's like we have to finish the words they are saying (in our heads) to make sense of it & i imagine to them it's the opposite, but we do carry a conversation well, because it's all still Spanish. Same goes with other latino dialects.

Yes, they told the father they didn't feel comfortable having their son sitting in the parking lot and if he didn't want to come into the church then he should quit coming there. The son went with his dad just to get out of the house I think. This family is kind of strange anyway. The parents always went to church in separate vehicles because, according to him, his wife was embarrassed to be seen with him because he weighs over 400 pounds. The father and son quit going there now but his wife and daughter still go every Saturday.
When I lived in Hollywood, Florida, I had a girlfriend who had grown up in Jamaica and had the accent.. kinda cool!
