You think that's tacky.. when my one younger brother got married, it was a small wedding for immediate family and friends.. well, they provided the food all right.. chips & dip for some and the real food and liquor was kept upstairs for "select" guests.. I can't complain tho as I didn't bother going.. the "bride" and I never have gotten along..
Wow, that is tacky. Must have made people feel real important if they didn't get beyond the dip and chips.
Now that I think about it, maybe I'll just send a card instead. LOL

OMG now that's horrible!
My cousin use to keep the "good" cereal & name brand soda in her bedroom & the generic stuff in the kitchen for her kids lol
greedy is one thing, but from your own children?? horrible.
As for anyone who posts and then checks their post count, I say "so what"? It's just a number and isn't hurting me if someone passes my post count or I can't catch up to them.. as I said, it's all in good fun!
One thing I like about our forums compared to many others I have seen is most everyone is 'real' on here. It's as if we are all sitting around a table and laughing and talking to each other. Sometimes people (me included) will post and then lol and think up something else and post again..and then maybe even think oh yeah...and post again almost like a conversation. I see nothing wrong with that, since it usually is not hurting anyone one way or another. I sincerely don't believe members here are so 'into' the numbers that they are racing around trying to 'cheat' the system and forever keeping one eye on the numbers..lol..really now, what's the point? It's not like there is a prize at the top of the ladder of posts.
As far as the edit button, I use that more for misspelled words, sentence structure, adding a piece of clip art, or photo that may add to the subject. I don't take my time to go back and add more thoughts to a comment if I already posted it with thought that some members may have already read it and adding more to it could be confusing. (yes, even in a 3 minutes time frame).
I totally agree with you Dave on your comment on this subject. Really, does it hurt anyone if there is extra posts, or someone having fun? I say if it isn't hurting anyone, why complain or make a fuss.
Just my thoughts on this, not to offend.

I wonder if I remember how to use my hot air popper. Have to dust it off.
We use to eat hot air popped all the time. If you want alittle extra butter taste without the calories, we use to put some spray butter on it and toss it around.

What is every one's opinion on this one? My SIL just sent us an invite for her third marriage. Then at the bottom it says to bring a dish to pass since it will be a potluck. I find this tacky and think they should provide the food since it's a wedding, not a picnic or normal family gathering.
I know someone that had been married 2 other times, so when she got married again they did something on this order of asking for guests to bring a dish to pass. It all fit in with a small ceremony, only close friends and intermediate family and she was married in some one's home. It actually turned out fun with everyone feeling as if they took part to help the newlyweds since money was tight for them.
Of course if the bride has a nice dress, a sense of a larger wedding and many guests, than it would stand that it was quite tacky to ask for food to be brought.
At least that is my thoughts on this...

I don't know if I'm expected to give a gift as well. I would think they would say then, no gifts please if people are expected to shell out money for a dish to pass. Sorry, but bringing a dish to pass is not how I feel like being part of the wedding. I want to be a guest and relax.
If money is tight than go with what you can afford.
This wedding is a distance away for us and for most of the guests. It's past Oshkosh.
I posted it on Twitter and the reactions were that it was tacky to ask guests to pay for the food. What does Miss Manners say? lol remember her?
If they can't afford to have food, then why not get married in the middle of the afternoon, after lunch, and before dinner and have just a nice big cake? I actually been to weddings that are small and at the reception there was nothing more than cake/ice cream, punch and maybe nut/candy bowls set around. The guests just mingled (not many guests) and watched the bride/groom open presents. Again, this was a very small informal gathering for a wedding.
Weddings do not have to cost an arm and a leg or inconvenient guests if the couple can't afford much. It's the thought that the family is together to witness a new union, not watch the couple go into bankruptcy court. I personally think weddings costs are crazy. But that's just my thoughts.

I think many go overboard on wedding costs just because they think there is no limit to the spending and they need to have it all. Most don't set a budget and try to stick within it.
This wedding is at 1 pm. They don't need anything big since it's just immediate family and it's her third wedding. My husband said at that age why bother, just get a JOP and save the money for a weekend away.
when it comes down to it, it's not about how much money they have. It's about that they expect people to provide their food for them.
Well it looks as if the ice storm has missed us so far. Not sure what today will bring but at least it seems to be OK out there for now. Of course I haven't stepped out yet, could be more than meets the eye from the house.
Well hope everyone has a good day today.

After months and months of complaining my phone and internet/DSL service is working ~ working together.... No static, I dont get bumped when the phone rings, or someone makes a call, or because it's raining, to icey, too windy....
They sent a new guy today and after searching for a good 20 min he discovered the main phone line wire outside the house had been chewed on exposing bare wires and a few cracked wires

Bad Bad Dogs!! I had a dog eating the wires.....
I had that happen years ago where I was always having problems. It just made me really unhappy how long it took them to finally decide they should come out and check 'their' lines outside only to discover the line coming to the house was really, really, old and had to be replaced.

uh-oh what's up with the bird....I must have missed something. Your parakeet or a different bird?
Just a fast update for you: He was Dave's pet bird that Dave decided to find another good home for. All sounds like it turned out well, he heard from the lady by email and she said he is doing OK.

sometimes when posting a long drawn out posts things can and do get lost in the reading.
I am a fan of short posts for this very reason. I even try not to make long post because I know how I feel when I see a long post ~ sigh, lets skim thru and see what up. It dont hold my attention.
If it's an article I even try to bust that apart into a few posts if it will flow proper just because sometimes someone see's a long drawn out post and instead of reading it, they skim over it possibly missing some good information.
Yes, long posts usually loses my attention to. I do remember one time there was a lengthy post and I was skimming it not that it wasn't interesting but I was on a time frame and almost to the very end I noticed 'pk' and they had asked me something. I almost missed it since it was about something different than the post.
Sometimes if I miss a few posts and someone comes on (keith comes to mind here) He will post quotes and answer and then post another quote and answer and it has me jumping back and forth to see what it was the quote was about since it had been a while since it was posted. This is a good way to do it if you stick with maybe a day's worth only.
But of course that is just my thoughts.

Yikes...what's going on here? This is one of many reasons I vanished for darn near a year the last time.
Here to have fun, chit chat, unwind, and maybe share something important that will help someone else.
I like the milestone section because it's a fun Shout Out! For that tiny moment I feel like I did something important....then it's back to reality.

That's nice she called with an update. Glad the bird is adjusting well
