Does she bake all this stuff? That has to take forever. Even cookies are time consuming to make. I was in the kitchen 8 hours just for 5 cookies. Those who don't bake really don't appreciate that time it takes to make the stuff. Then there's all the clean up...
Yes, everything she does is home made and takes a long time. Then every platter is perfectly put together.
I have no idea how she does it all when she also juggles 5 different jobs and is a great Mom too.

Then before you know it you'll be teaching him to drive.
I have a 16 1/2 year old daughter that is making noises she wants her permit but she has to wait until she is over 17 before I will consider it. She does practice in the driveway and is getting better at backing up though.

My husband is so funny. My dad got him this remote meat thermometer which I never even heard of.
Years ago these came out as the 'new' have to have thing. We got one as a Christmas gift that year. I think it came from some catalog of kitchen gadgets or something. Since then I have seen them at Taste of Home Outlet Store.
I never actually used our's, not sure why, it just seemed easier to just 'look' at the steak to see if it was done enough. lol

We are keeping ours up until after New Years too. Partly because I'm too pooped to put it all away right now and partly because we will be having company over for New Years Eve and I want my house to look "pretty".
I think part of the reason I like to keep ours up a bit longer is it feels we were so rushed through the month of December trying to make sure we got everything done that now that Christmas is actually over I can sit back and enjoy the tree, lights and decorations without the pressure of getting things done.

Plus, Menard's has purple sandpaper. I want purple sandpaper. I don't need any right now, but it's purple and what better reason to buy it? So much prettier than boring tan or gold.
Purple Sandpaper???
OK, I have to have some too.
I love the color purple.

Note to Menards: Good job stocking purple sandpaper; demand heavy in Wisconsin!
I didn't buy any, but I tried to convince my husband that he needed some purple sandpaper.
Apparently I'm not the only one that likes to buy things just because of color or nice packaging. Two of my designer friends said they both have a rainbow of colors of duct tape.

I just have to ask how one person can juggle 5 jobs. How many hours per job are we talking here? I don't think I could do that. I bet she figured out a way to skip sleep altogether. Does she have the secret formula for the anti-sleep medicine?
Since then I have seen them at Taste of Home Outlet Store.
Taste of Home has an outlet store? I never heard of that. Where??

I'd never use it on steak, but we make a lot of beer can chickens and you have to check the inside temp to see if it's done. Looking at it won't tell you much. You don't want it raw in the middle.
A parent that is not teaching their child the right values in life.
A parent that buys their kids everything and never makes them work for anything. Who could even afford to buy their kids new cars? These will be the same kids that grow up and spend money faster than they make because they need to have everything just like when mom and dad bought them everything. They'll be in credit card debt up to their eyeballs.
My son had to go in to work at 5:00 this morning. I didn't realize McDonald's opened that early! Who can eat at that time of the morning!?
I had a bunch of errands to run in town today, but my husband just borrowed my van so I won't be going until later now. I guess I have plenty of things I can do around here while I wait for him to get back. One thing on my list is to throw out all the left overs from the Christmas dinner (other than the turkey) so my hubby won't be tempted to eat them, especially the sweets. His blood sugar level is finally dropping down into the 100's now. He is being more careful of what he eats plus the meds are probably helping too. It's weird though, there are seven houses on our end of town and 5 people here have diabetes! None of them are over weight either. In fact my husband has lost 35 pounds over the last two years. Makes you wonder if there might be something else going on? Something in the water? Just a coincidence? Hmm...
I know a woman that's convinced it's eating grains that makes blood sugar go up. She thinks that eating any grains are bad and cause so many health problems. She said that's according to all her "research." I'd have to disagree with that. I'm thinking it has to do with over processed grains like white bread. I'd say whole grains are good and processed stuff has removed all that is good for you.
Then we have high fructose corn syrup that's used in foods. I know that's not really good for us compared to good old sugar. See? Just another form of processed crap. Even a bowl of Wheaties has corn syrup.
You'll probably have to research more on diabetes. Good to see that your husband and others are watching their weight with diabetes. That always helps.
I hope I never get diabetes since my grandma and an aunt had it. They got it when they were older and both were big women. Neither was active either. I tend to take after my mom's side so maybe I won't get it from the dad's side.
PK, remember what you said about fruit baskets not being as fresh? I just peeled an orange and it ended up in the garbage. The bottom inside looked brownish orange and the stem end had mold. The second one was ok, but I don't like all that skin on the wedges. I have this thing about tough skins on fruit.

according to ehow, fruit basket fruit sits around a lot longer & anythinig more than a day or two before being eaten & chances are basket fruit wont be any good when you eat it, because of it being wrapped up & what not.
I cant think of once in my life that i gave someone a fruit basket & what a horrible x-mas gift!

Yes it is a horrible gift. It says a person is lazy and couldn't be bothered to try to find something better. I wonder why veggie baskets aren't popular?
My husband and are trying to figure out which family member bought it. I can see a few of them giving it just by judging their past "efforts" at gift giving.
As I said before, if you wouldn't want to get it than don't give it to someone else.

AGREED.
I know gift cards dont take much thought etc... but i'd much rather a gift card to some nasty fruit.
I think a gift card can be decent if it's not something ordinary. Restaurants are always good choices. A card for a special store not just any old store can be nice. Book stores are another one I like.
I'm not sure which is worse...a Snuggie or a fruit basket.
Too bad the fruit basket can't be returned or be regifted.
Driving ourselves batty with trying to figure out where this remote meat thermometer came from so we can return it. We've tried Menard's, Home Depot, Target, Farm & Fleet, Walmart, and Bed, Baths, & Beyond. I've looked at the websites of: Cabela's, Sears, Penney's, Kohls, Kmart, Shopko and I think that's all.

Anyone else got any stores I haven't thought of?
Do you know of any other gifts they purchased & where they purchased some of their other gifts from? maybe they bought this at the same place. What city do they live/shop in or near? At least you can narrow down the search to the stores in that area. Do they do their shopping online?
How about shopko, Kohls, sears, kmart or specialty stores such as kitchenaide, crate & barrel, Pier 1, linens 'n things, urban kitchenware.

Yep, tried those and nothing matched.

Gift came from my parents...so yes, I know where they live. They could go either Milwaukee or Madison direction, so who knows? I really hate to ask if I don't have to.

LOL my parents shop online?? They're lucky if they can handle looking at the internets.
I don't know of a kitchenaide store, never heard of urban kitchenware, crate & Barrel wouldn't be their style, Pier 1 mostly likely doesn't carry grilling supplies and Linens went out of business couple years ago. No, can't be any of those. Nice try though.
I just got back from my "after Christmas" shopping. The brand of Christmas cards I always buy was half price so I picked up a couple of boxes of those...I'm definitely all set for Christmas cards for next year now. I also got a couple bottles of McGraw colgone that my husband wears for five bucks and I paid $22 for a bottle earlier this month. I LOVE McGraw cologne...it's the kind that I said "makes me melt". LOL I also got myself some Halle (Halle Berry) perfume. I had never smelled it before but someone else told me it smells good and since it was on sale, I had to buy that too. Even though it is a bit strong, I do like how it smells. I also picked up a few decorations to put away for next Christmas. I didn't find any really great bargains though. I suppose they probably sold all of those things on Saturday.
I ran across the cutest thing for my mom today. It's a clock that has kitties on it that meows on every hour with a different kind of meow each time. Tomorrow is her birthday and she loves anything with cats on it so I think she will get a kick out of this! It has a light sensor so it doesn't meow at night but it can get irritating after awhile. I have a Christmas clock that plays a different carol every hour. I took the battery out of it after the first week! LOL
