Unfortunately, charities have to be creative when canvassing for funds but I agree with you.. I won't donate to a "pushy" charity.

I first seen the credit card machines last week, which i figured whatever works for them, I don't care. However, when i was leaving wal-mart last night & the bell ringer asked if i will be helping out today & i said "no, not today" he had the audacity to say "no excuses this year dear, we now accept debit & credit" (pointing at his little card reader)... This was uncalled for IMO... don't use it to strong arm a donation out of me! When i have extra CASH on me i will drop it in, but don't get pushy, that's simply rude & turn people off when it comes to helping... again this is just IMO.
I find that is shreds too much, like those little fibers. It smells like moldy chemicals. I stuck it in the closet that I don't go in to often since hubby won't let me throw it out. Maybe it just needs to air out.
My husband also said to me last night as we passed a bell ringer that he donated plenty of change this year and wasn't giving anymore. As someone suggested on Twitter that they should give you a sticker to say you donated that way they don't ask at the next place. Kind of like the Buddy Poppies they hand out
What a great idea to hand out stickers to wear. I will give what change I have or maybe morel at the beginning of the year but then what are you suppose to do when they are standing at almost every store you go into the rest of the season?
I stopped at the Sam's Club bell ringer and told him I was sorry but I already donated and he was nice about it but a few other places I got the look of..yeah right. Now I just walk by and not look at them.
So maybe someone should make up big round pins that says: I GAVE! and sell them. I'd buy a pin for a buck and give a buck and be done with it. lol Maybe that would help.

Exactly why I don't like it. Pretty much all generic types of TP does this seems like. People buy them thinking they are saving money but you are not saving money if you have to unroll twice as much and it all falls apart!
Oh the things we can make a conversation out of. lol

Credit Card Machines? I'm not sure if I noticed this yet. But no, I will not hand my card over to give a donation but I'm sure that is a way to get many that simply don't carry cash and would like to give a good donation. Kinda a smart idea. I'm guessing you can get a receipt and use it for tax purposes.
But what he said to you Latina, lol I'm surprise you didn't clunk him with his bell! lol

More I think of it, what he said was really uncalled for. .. how did he know that you didn't just donate at the last store? In fact I think I would have said, gee, I just donated a huge donation at the last bell ringer but due to your rudeness I'm going to call and stop the charge from going through. lol
As for myself, I'm on a very limited income but I will usually make an effort to out change into the Salvation Army pot if I have extra.. they do a bang-up job of helping people all year long..

aargh, I'm pooped. All day in the kitchen making cookies. So much work for just a few cookies. Not sure why I go through this every year. It took me 8 hours. Why do we do this to ourselves? Maybe a pan of bars would be easier next time.
Only thing I have left is a joke present to make. This was my husband's idea and of course, I get to make it LOL. He wants to make a joke Bumpit (the hair clip thing). This one includes a mallet to smack your head with. I even have pics of the Bugs Bunny cartoon where he asks the cougar "how many lumps do you want?" "Meh, three or four." *smack, smack, smack* Do you know how old that cartoon is?? 1952!
Ohh, I realized how tired I was when I just now tried to close Photoshop up. Instead of clicking on the X to close the window, I was clicking on the X in the screen shot I made. Of course that won't do a thing since it's just an image. Then I had to click it a few more times just to make sure it was really an image.
Well, kids are gone til Friday night with their dad (even tho Krystal called crying earlier that she wanted to come home) and I'm planning on doing blog posts for several hours tomorrow and again on Christmas because Misty will be working (6 hours tomorrow and 9 hours on Christmas) so I should get quite a bit done!
The MP3 player we bought Samantha didn't work so we returned it and got another one.. charged it and put some music on it for her so it's ready when she gets here for the weekend.
Here's the weather report for my neck of the woods (keeping in mind I was walking around in shirt sleeves all day):
Thursday
Windy...colder. Periods of rain showers in the morning...then periods of snow...rain and sleet in the afternoon. Areas of blowing and drifting snow with visibility one quarter mile or less at times in the afternoon. Snow and sleet accumulation up to 2 inches. Highs in the mid 40s. Temperature falling into the lower 30s in the afternoon. Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph in the morning increasing to north 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 40 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.
Thursday Night
Very windy. Much colder. Areas of blowing and drifting snow with visibility one quarter mile or less at times in the evening. Periods of snow. Snow accumulation of 3 to 4 inches. Total snow accumulation 3 to 6 inches. Lows around 15. West winds 25 to 30 mph. Gusts up to 45 mph in the evening. Chance of snow 90 percent.

Wow, I'm with you there. That takes some nerve to say that. I'd would have shot back at him saying I don't like to share my tiny unemployment check at this time. No one should be guilted into donating. I don't normally expect this from the Salvation Army.

I made it clear that he was rude... the sticker or button is a good idea, maybe sell them & have the donation bowl thingy there for extra.

He was rude.
For those who make a big enough donation that they can use a receipt for tax purposes, that makes sense, but like you, i'm not handing my card over unless its to help my children. I give cash & have written a check a time or two back in the day, but nope not my cards.

Exactly why i was insulted. They need the help & i've donated to a couple bell ringers this year, maybe a $15 total & im sure i will again, but i wasnt carrying cash that night & felt belittled... pushy = no!

Make him feel crunchy.
I said "what? are you serious? I wouldn't use that lame line if you truly want people to help, you are a horrible bell ringer man!"
I should have probably been nicer, but at that moment i was insulted by the insinuation that i wasnt willing to help & went as far as to make an excuse to get out of it grrr
They have to figure that not every single person will give them something. It's just the way it is. I'm sure a good percent do drop spare change in or a dollar or two. I figure most people should give something when they can because you know it's got to suck standing out in the cold ringing a bell. It's great that those bell ringers are willing to do that.
Shame on that bell ringer for being demanding. I bet he won't be doing that again after you said that to him.
Merry Christmas! Plenty of snow here.. we had freezing rain last night but not looking too bad in that respect, just drifting snow.. freezing wind putting gas in the van last night!
Misty's off to work shortly.. won't be home til 5.. then we have to go pick up the kids for their Christmas here..
Blustery...snow. New snow accumulation of 2 to 3 inches. Total snow accumulation 3 to 6 inches. Temperature falling to around 15. West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Chance of snow near 100 percent.
We are getting rain and have been non stop since yesterday morning. It was almost 40 this morning when I got up! I'm glad it wasn't snow but now with all this rain, I have to go mop up water in the basement where it leaked in. There's no place for it to go on that side because of the driveway. Blah!
Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas? My hubby had to run to town to do an errand and when he gets back we will open gifts here. I have one turkey in the oven and will bake the second one after that. I also have to make six pies and gather the stuff to take to the hall tomorrow. We got it all decorated yesterday and it only took 5 hours with three of us helping. It looks really pretty though! I will have to get up REALLY early tomorrow to cook all the food here before we go there. I checked the stove at the hall and only two of the burners work! Good thing I was already planning to put everything in slow cookers and the buffet server thingy.
Between my husband and I we have to take back 5 or 6 gifts that we got. Yet another reason I'd rather shop for myself. I'd take back a 7th one, but I guess you can't return a fruit basket. I think a fruit basket is kind of a lame gift (at least for me it is). Give me something more fun and less healthy. Just sayin'.
After 3 days of eating cookies I think I'm done. Probably be packing most in the freezer to eat later on.
I learned something new today. Do you know why it's sometimes written as "X-mas"? The X is Greek for Chi and it goes back to the old days of typesetting by hand when it was shorter to use Xmas than Christmas.

I think I may be taking back one thing my husband bought me. He got me an electric throw blanket to use while watching tv. I guess he didn't remember that I already had one from a couple years ago that I don't use and am not even sure where it is. Plus, with all these hot flashes, I don't think I need one! Maybe he bought it so he could use it since I keep the heat down so low when I get too warm. LOL He did get me one thing that I really liked...a gift card to my favorite clothing store.
I agree...I think fruit baskets are something people give because they don't want to have to think too hard about what to get for you.
I decided to try making a couple of new kinds of pies today. I always make chocolate and banana pudding pies and I usually make a couple of Butterfinger candy bar pies. This time I thought I'd try a Mounds candy bar pie and an M & M candy pie. They turned out great...and the M & M one looks so festive with the red and green candies! And so easy to make too! Hopefully people will eat them tomorrow or I will have to send them home with someone. No more sweets in our house since hubby can't have them. I feel so sorry for him not being able to have some of his favorite things anymore. It's funny though, he said the thing he will miss the most is chocolate milk.
