I think this is the cutest little red school house! It was built in 1864 and the people who own the property keep it in really nice condition. It's on Hwy. 61 between Boscobel and Fennimore. I have always wanted to get a picture when the flowers were in bloom and I finally had my camera with so I stopped and took this photo yesterday.
I thought you had to be on it for 48 hours before you were no longer contagious?
Actually anytime my kids had something that was contagious and had to go on meds I've always been told they weren't contagious after 24 hours on the medicine. I don't quite believe that and wait until the symptoms are better. I am a type of mom though that won't take my kids to people's homes if they are sick. That is just plain rude. And I certainly don't expect anyone to come to my house if they are sick.
And to let them run all over some one's home is also rude. Sorry.
awwwww! How adorable!
On my daily "rounds" as a pet-sitter here, I am constantly coming across these HUGE box turtles or soft-shell turtles trying to cross the road, esp. around the golf courses here. I always stop (flashers on!), run around traffic (everyone stops and laughs), grab the beast and send him/her on it's way........in the direction it was going of course.
Did two today as a matter of fact.

Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend, my brother just called from Oshkosh and said the weather was great up there. It's been storming/raining here though. Stood in line at Publix tonight listening to tourists complain about the weather......yikes. People were Maaaaaaaaaad! Well.....sorry! They were taking it out on the cashier and I felt so bad for her!
It does rain in FLORIDA on holidays! Especially during the RAINY SEASON! duh!
It did suc here for a vacation at the beach though.........
Felt bad for the folks who WERE NOT complaining and blaming......

Friday we had to run to Madison to pick up my bike from the bike shop where I bought it originally. It was way overdue for a tune-up. On the way back home we had to stop at the Essenhaus for a beer.
Saturday I spent the day working around the house and then got a bike ride in. Later on we went to see a band. Sunday we went to the bike trail by Sullivan. I like that part of the trail because it goes through a wildlife preserve. Only critters we saw were frogs hopping in front of us and a few crows. Usually we see cranes, herons, turkeys or deer. Then we came back to take showers and head to Milwaukee to another Guy Fieri stop at the Comet Cafe by Farwell St. I had the item that was featured on the Diners & Drive-ins show and that was turkey balls. They take turkey, stuffing and potatoes and dip in batter, then deep fry. They were good. I did see something I should have gotten and that was the mile high meatloaf sandwich. I bet it was almost a foot tall. Another sandwich called the Brew City something was equally as tall. Next time...
Monday morning we are going to go hike at Pike Lake state park and then come home to hang out on the deck. We got some swiss cheese and mushroom brats for the grill and I'm making calico beans to go with. I love calico beans. Oh, and some cold beer.

ok......I have to ask....what the heck are MUSHROOM BRATS????
Ihaven't been away from WI long enough (if ever) to NOT know what Brats are.....but MUSHROOM?? Are they trippy? Please?
And I have heard the term "calico beans" before.....that's like a canned bean salad, right?
Yikes.....I've been gone too long! ha!

All pork brat mixed with bits of portabella mushrooms and swiss cheese.
We have a Super Valu here that has several different types of brats from their butcher section and this is one of them. Another type they have available that I like is the Amish Brats.

I get my brats from Glen's Market in Watertown. They have many flavors. Cheese and bacon, Italian, German, mushrooms and swiss, pepperjack cheese, beer brats, taco, even cranberry or blueberry. They have pork or beef brats, even turkey brats. They have a little sausage called a bockwurst that is very good grilled. Their brats are better than a Johnsonville because they hardly shrink and have less fat. They also have a really yummy coffee cake with cinnamon and custard filling, then topped with chocolate frosting and a crunchy cinnamon and sugar mixture. It's soooo good. Glen's is a meat market mostly, but they some bakery and other items.
As for calico beans what you are talking about...yuck! Calico beans are baked beans made with pork & beans, Bush's beans, butter beans, kidney beans, brown sugar, ketchup, bacon and hamburger. I know there are variations of this recipe, but I like this one the best. It makes a huge batch of beans.
Thanks! I have actually made those beans before, sort of.....I use black beans, red beans, white beans and frozen green beans and hamburger, and spike it up with fresh jalapenos and jack daniels.
I was originally picturing cold bean salad.....not a favorite of mine.
Wow.....brats have sure changed! Some of those flavors sound pretty good!

Speaking of food.....it's been a while since I made breakfast....lets see what's in the fridge.
How about some breakfast burrito wraps, sausage biscuits, fresh fruit salad with mangos, melon, papaya, bananas and strawberries? I have some fresh fig & raspberry jam (seriously....just made a few pints!), to spread onto some hot-from-the-oven whole grain breakfast bread, or bagels with cream cheese.......hot teas and/or coffee, and fresh squeezed FLORIDA OJ!!!
Let's pack it all up and ya'll come with me to the beach........

Good Morning Ken and Happy Labor Day to you and Everyone else in Bubbler land.
Got up a bit later than I wanted this morning so have to rush now.
Going to a large (and long) lol Parade in Zion, Illinois. I think I have gone to this parade every year my entire life. (and no, I won't say how many years that has been). lol It's going to be strange this year with only my 2 teens with me but we are going to have fun. They always all through the years have fireworks in the evening of Labor Day in Zion which we never miss either but last year they changed it to the Sunday night before so we decided not to go this year. Kenosha has their large parade the end of June for Veterans Day and we missed that this year so this is it for us...the Zion parade. lol
Well hope everyone has a great day. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day here too Ken. Hope the rain holds off longer than a few days. I'm loving this weather and still have so much we are doing outside.
I have been waiting to see who hits the 60,000th post and it just went over the mark a few posts ago. Guess it was the one that left the last post before Ken this morning I think. lol Maybe Toes? Or when Ken mentioned the breakfast. Whatever, it's just great that we now have 60,000!

Way to go!!!
I think Toes hit the 60,000 mark. My post was 60,001 (I think) Maybe Dave can find out.
Good morning! I slept in longer than planned after staying up late watching the MDA telethon last night. We never miss it as it's an event that's near and dear to us since we used to run the local MDA telethon back when we were in the Jaycees. It sure brings back some wonderful memories with some great people! I hope they raise tons of money this year!
Sunday we went to the bike trail by Sullivan. I like that part of the trail because it goes through a wildlife preserve. Only critters we saw were frogs hopping in front of us and a few crows. Usually we see cranes, herons, turkeys or deer.
When we lived in Dousman back in the early '90's, we used to ride our bikes on the trail from there to Sullivan. It does have some beautiful scenery and the kids used to love it even though it was quite a long ride for them.
I was originally picturing cold bean salad.....not a favorite of mine.
Cold beans would gross me out. I think what you are thinking of is called three bean salad *gag*. I've never had it, but it doesn't look good and it's cold. Beans that are cold doesn't sound good. If it comes in a can, it's probably not good.

I used to work in Dousman, so you know how small that town is. I used to work across the street from the liquor store. Whenever someone called on the phone and asked where we were located, we just said across from the liquor store. They all knew where that was.
We rode up the street when we got to Dousman yesterday because I wanted to show hubby the black squirrels that are around there. Only place I've ever seen black ones in Wis. Of course, none were running around.
Today we did our hike at Pike Lake. We did a couple of trails in the park. We climbed the lookout tour and I didn't even freak out climbing out. I don't like heights and all those open steps as you climb up bother me. Once I'm up there, it's ok. I just remembered to look up and not through the open steps.

I think we have a thread here about black squirrels or I know we at least talked about them before...maybe on this thread? Anyways, we have black squirrels here in Kenosha. I see one every once in awhile. Also use to see them at my mom's across the Wisconsin border in Illinois when we use to sit in her kitchen looking out the window.
Actually I found it rather quickly. Blue I guess you started the thread too. I hate when I think I've read something somewhere on here and then can't find it or wonder if I actually really read about it after all. lol So I'm glad to see I didn't actually just think I read it and now know that I did in fact see it on here before...did that make sense? lol
We took Eli to CiCi's tonight.. their credit card machine was broken and we started to leave because I didn't have any cash. The manager followed us out and told us to come back in that we could eat for free.. pretty nice, eh? (CiCi's is all you can eat pizza)
