ewwwww! Nasty looking critters, aren't they? I don't believe I have ever seen one before.
It's weird but I heard them in the trees, or where ever they like to be, making a ton of noise as far back as I can remember in my life, but it wasn't until a few years back that I actually saw one. Ugly, very ugly. lol

They basically look like a giant fly. You often don't see them because as soon as you get near them they get quiet. You probably know them by the loud buzzing they make on warm sunny days. It's a sound I always associate with the summertime when we were kids and had off of school. Reminds me of those fun summer days back then.
I remember as kids we would find the empty shells of the nymphs stuck on trees sometimes.
Some places have the 17 year cicada (surely you've heard of this one on the news somewhere) that hatches every 17 years. I don't know if Wis. has them, but I know my relatives in Missouri talked about them and having to put nets over the trees because they lay their eggs in the wood. Even wood siding.
Did you know that some people eat them? Supposed to taste like potatoes. I'll pass, thanks. I like to get my protein from meat and beans.
Now this is loud! "How loud are cicadas? Some have been measured at 100 decibels at 20 yards away, which is loud enough to be heard over a lawnmower!"
Some kinds of cicadas have the weee-oh weee-oh weeee-oh weee-oh buzz, although I don't know if I've heard that one in Wis. Ours are more of the continuous long buzz rather than the weee-oh noise. Dave, you might know this sound down in Missouri. I think I heard that kind in KC when we were there. The sound was so loud that when we sat outside with several in the tree above. We had to talk so loud to hear each other.
Some cicadas are called Dog Day Cicadas because they are active in the dog days of summer.

Until this convo between you & Toes, i can honestly say i had never heard the word Cicada. Like you, i wouldn't be caught eating anything that gross, unless of course there was a lot of money involved, like in fear factor
Gonna be another busy day here at work, can hardly wait for 4pm Friday to arrive, i need some serious sleep! I set my alarm for 6am, but it never fails, i always wake 10-15 min before the alarm actually sounds!
Going to try & get some rummage sales in this weekend, before summer passes me by!

There's lots of rummage & garage sales left here, the lake people must be cleaning up for next year.

Hey Hawkins, always great to see you here. I'm hoping there is still plenty of garage sales left since I haven't really gone to any this summer. Thinking maybe the kids and I will get up this Saturday and check some out.
Hope to have our sale soon so I can have another before the snow flies this fall. Have a ton of things to get rid of.

How interesting. I love Bacon but I try not to eat it to often. Actually we buy the kind that is already made and you pop it in the micro for like 30 seconds. Before everyone moans...oh, that's not real bacon lol I have to say I felt the same way for quite some time but then I found it's so much better since it is with so less grease on it. I really dislike eating things dripping in grease but love the taste of bacon.
Anyways, bet they sell alot. I just have a hard time spending what they want for food at fairs. Always so expensive.

Want to know what's really odd?
Just NOW.......sitting out here on the porch, Sig-other points to the screen and says "Look! A Cicada!"
I have one staring at me as we speak!
They're BIG!!!!
How funny but it seems to happen that way. People are talking about something and then it happens or you notice whatever is being discussed. Anyways, so happy for you that you finally got to see a nasty bug. lol lol
Have a great day toes with your sig-other.
