Friday i got sooo drunk! I ended up on State street with friends, bar hopping & someone had to drive my truck home... i enjoyed not being the designated driver for a change, which is not me at all! But we had a blast!
Saturday i left town & had the time of my life, returning last night, since i had to work today... i can hardly wait for the weekend, i kinda think i am getting use to this no kids thing Also met someone a few weeks ago & met some of his family over dinner Saturday night... wont count my chickens just yet, but this feels right so far.
I've been busy lately getting things gathered for my semi-annual "sister's weekend" at the Dells. This time we are going for four days though...two just isn't enough since we usually spend the first day gripping about the things our spouses do that drive us nuts! LOL I have my supply of Root Beer and Raspberry Schnapps and a bottle of Asti all ready to go. Important things first right? Now I need to decide what to pack for clothes and what games to take. We always have such a great time there. I dread coming back to my house after leaving the guys home for that long though. I'm sure I will have a huge mess to clean up when I get home! Oh well...the time away is worth it!
Always fun to get to visit with loved ones you don't get to see to often. I can't wait until next Friday when friends of mine from up by Wausau is stopping by. Wish it was for more than one day though. You barely get to start the conversation and the day is gone. lol

Has anyone noticed how quickly this summer is going? Seems like we just started and it's already the 20th of July. Where is is all going??
Definitely going by way too fast! My son goes back to college a month from today already! I will sure miss him even though he will only be an hour away. He goes back two weeks early every year for "band camp". This year he will be the section leader of his group so will be even busier than before.
We walked into Walmart the other day and sure enough...SCHOOL SUPPLIES!
I swear if you don't buy them in July the price goes up again before school starts. That should be in the pet peeve section...why are the school supplies in July only? It never fails that the first day of school the teachers hand out a list of things your kids need that wasn't on the list in the store.

Everyone have a great day!!
That's great that you are getting out and enjoying yourself Latina! Sounds like you had a lot of fun last weekend! Good for you!
So you have recovered from your sale now? Oh, I'm in the middle of tearing apart things to set one up now...so much work.
It is a lot of work isn't it? I don't plan to ever do one again...and I shouldn't need to as long as I don't go to more rummage sales and bring more stuff home that I don't really need.
I still have to call up my neighbor and tell him to come pick up my records that didn't sell. I have a crate full of albums and about 300 45's from the 70's to early 80's that I'm going to give him. He is a dj at the local radio station and he collects records. He has one room in his house that is just wall to wall records!
I just heard on the radio that a 6 year old boy near Hillsboro was killed when he was run over by an end loader his dad was driving on the farm where he worked! How awful! And so sad especially for the family!
Not long ago, another young boy (I think he was 4) was accidentally killed near here when his dad was trying to hook a horse up to a buggy. The boy was in the buggy and the horse got spooked causing the buggy to overturn, killing the boy. So sad to lose a family member at such a young age!
I HATE BATS! They are soooo bad in the portage area!
mosquitoes have not been a huge issue here either, well not that i have noticed anyway. They are out there of course, just not as bad as i recall from yrs past.
Lots of people hate bats, but I think a lot of that has to do with myths that people have about bats. No, they don't fly in your hair; more likely they are eating bugs above your head. Did you know that one bat can eat 1000 insects an hour! That's incredible. They use their wings like hands to catch the bugs. They also help pollinate fruit trees and other flowers. You can see we'd be in a whole lot of trouble without our bat friends.
Most bats do have an ugly face, but I guess that's why they come out at night hahaha. However, there is one bat that is a cutie, that's the flying fox bat. They are also the largest bat, but we don't have them here. They do look like a dog or a fox. This picture is funny because it looks like he's plugging his ears. Flying Fox bat They are fruit eaters and at one time Australian farmers were mad because the bats were eating their fruit crops, so the farmers put nets over the trees to keep the bats out. They soon found out they needed the bats because the bats were pollinating the trees. Sometimes man does more harm than good.
Yep, mosquitoes have been bad here, but not as bad this past week at earlier. It's been cool and dry, too, which makes it seem odd that we have so many. You should see all the mosquitoes on the screens of our canopy at night on the deck. Even before the sun is completely down. Thank goodness we have that. We also have ponds and marshes in our area of the state. Nothing real close by the house, but close enough to produce mosquitoes.
If I can't have bats, then a flock of swallows flying around would be nice. They don't come to our yard much. They are fun to watch with all their diving around.
Always fun to see new types of birds. I love Robins and especially our few morning doves though.
I don't like the mourning doves. The sound them makes annoys me and is depressing sounding. It think the ones in our yard can't be very bright either, because they do the stupidest things.
The sparrows are the worst with the constant cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep.
In our yard the favorites are the purple finches, gold finches, song sparrow (who doesn't go cheep cheep lol), and cardinals. I also like the grackles for some reason. Like their metallic blue heads. One year we had a pair of orioles come to our deck, but that's the only time I saw them. We don't have lots of really big trees here yet and I know they like that. I miss the little wren singing since our neighbors took down their wren house.
Favorite birds out in the country are the big ones for me. I like hawks, cranes, herons, and egrets. We always keep an eye for those when we drive around. The baby cranes are so funny looking with all the fuzz on. My husband says they look like Woodstock from Peanuts with all that fuzz.

Glad you had a good weekend. Mine was pretty good. Friday we went out for a couple of hours to see this band that was more interested in screwing off then playing well. Didn't stay long.
Saturday we went to see 2 bands that were both very good and no cover charge. I like that.
Sunday we went to Festa Italiana, got in free with our Palermo's Pizza UPC box panels. We ate eggplant lasagna, Sicilian meatloaf, Italian potato skins, gnocchi (potato dumplings), baked ziti pasta, chocolate covered cannoli and strawberry cream filled cannoli. Didn't get my toasted ravioli or fried sugar dough things this year. Too much food, not enough stomach to go around. We saw the band Firehouse at night for our big hair music fix and stayed for some awesome fireworks. Got home by almost midnight. Good thing hubby is off all this week. Trying to convince him to something fun this week instead of just work around the house. He's being too boring LOL.
Here's a pic of some orphaned baby bats being cared for at a refuge:
Cute, eh?

That bat picture gave me the shivers! IMO that is one ugly creature & if it was flying anywhere near me would get killed. I know you like them, but theres just nothing cute about that in my opinion lol sorry!!
Of course i also think all cats are ugly & are the most useless & pointless creatures & i know many like them, but ick.

Sounds like a good time! We gave some people a ride to Festa Italiana, from the Lake on Sunday. my foot was hurting so we just went back to the Lake to chill out.

I didn't say I liked bats, they just don't bother me and I wouldn't kill one unless it was necessary. I just know that a lot of people get the wrong ideas about bats being so evil and forget about all the benefits of bats. Movies haven't helped their reputation at all. It's also a myth that bats are blind and just want to suck your blood. They probably don't want to be near you any more than you want to be by them.
There are a few places in the US that people gather to watch the bats emerge from caves at night to go to their nightly feeding areas. Carlsbad is one of those places. You won't see the bats in the day time, because they get their own special section of the cave that tourists never see. I was a lot more worried about being crapped on by dozens of swallows flying around the entrance than bats sleeping way back in the cave. We never got to see the bats at night because it was early in the spring and they migrate during the winter. And yes, I've seen sleeping bats in a cave before, but usually only a couple at a time.
I've had bats in the house, too. Not my house, but an apartment we lived in. One my husband killed. Another we caught in a blanket and put outside so it could climb out. Another 2 bigger bats flew in when we opened the door. We just held the door until they figured out how to get back out. The last one was stuck in between the screen and window sleeping. We just propped it open so he could get out easier that night. Usually it surprised me more than scared me. You just don't expect it when the bats show up like that.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to impact portions of extreme southeast Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks this evening. A few of the stronger storms could produce wind gusts up to 30 mph...torrential rain...and frequent cloud to ground lightning. This activity will remain scattered over areas west of the Highway 63 corridor through 8 PM.

When i was a kid we lived in this huge house in Superior WI (for a couple yrs), this house had a basement & attic that were both pretty scary & we could hear the bats flying around in both! I recall several times when bats came into the house & it freaked me out!!! Maybe that's why i hate them so much.
Kinda like when i was a kid & a mouse fell out of the cupboard & onto my head & now i hate mice and stand way back when openeing cupboards above my head.
LOL Dave, the bat picture is actually kinda cute...well, maybe a little bit cute. Really cute if you don't look at the faces to long.
I really don't care for bats, in fact I have to say I really am scared of the nasty looking creatures! They look like flying rats and I really can't stand being around rats!
I think because we had a barn and horses when I was quite young and there was really big nasty looking rats in the barn sometimes that would really scare me when I saw them. yuk and bats...well I was always told to watch out if I saw them because they carry rabies! So I was always afraid I was going to get one stuck in my hair, it would bite me, and I would die. lol Oh the things kids get stuck in their heads when they are young and then carry them on the rest of their lives! lol
But I'm sure bats have a right to live and eat insects etc...just please, not by me!
lol
Oh, and just to add a bit of info, bats really don't have a high rate of rabies, actually it's really very low. Just a bad myth that people use to think years ago is what started that.

Those bats look like they are huge for being babies! They are kind of cute but I don't think I would want one in my house thank you very much!
I am off to run a few errands in town this morning before it rains. It's been kind of dry here lately so maybe I won't have to mow the lawn before I leave on my trip. Yay! Back later.
