Had a busy and fun-filled weekend. Friday we used a gift cert to go to a Mexican restaurant that we really like near us and I found my new favorite dish on their menu. It was called Arroz something something LOL and it was shrimp and scallops over rice with a Mexican cheese. The seasonings on it were delish and the portions were generous. After that we came home to sit on the deck with our mix drinks and beer.
Arroz con Mariscos, which in english simply means rice with seafood. I don't eat seafood, but it's a common mex dish & my parents have always made/eaten it.
What a busy weekend i've had! friday & saturday i had fun with friends, laughed a lot & managed to still rest my foot quite a bit, considering we were usually at someones house, playing pool & what not.
Yesterday my bestfriend (and her guy friend, she made it clear he is just a friend!) brought the baby to the Madison zoo & we met up after that for lunch. It was great to see them again.
My kids came home yesterday late afternoon, my daughter & i went to Portage to see her bestfriend, who use to live with us growing up... It was sooo nice to see all the kids! They will be home until Thursday or Friday, so we went shopping last night & bought all their favorite foods, so i'll be cooking this week like crazy i'm sure lol
I hope everyone has a good day, despite it being Monday!!
We went the the Iola Car show for Sat. We're invited to come see one of the cars featured in the new Johnny Depp film " Public Enemy". My husband works for a guy who's dad had a car in the film. Was pretty cool to see.
As with all "Sushi Virgins", start with rolls that have no raw fish and work your way up. Then advance to a Spicy tuna roll.....yum!
After you get your feet wet, expand to some mainstream things like yellowtail & tuna sashimi, try a "Rainbow" roll, which is a standard roll offering salmon, tuna, yellowtail, sometimes shrimp and crab.
Thanks for the sushi lesson. Probably the reason that I haven't tried it is because the thought of raw fish doesn't seem right. I know not all has sushi has raw fish and that it really means to eat something rolled up in rice. At least that's what I was told about the rice and that people make the mistake of thinking it just means to eat raw fish. Some day I might try it, but not until I know which place is good. I suppose those ones in Pick 'n' Save's deli are no good lol.

Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend!
That's the name. Wish you didn't bring it up, now I want some. The seasonings made it taste so good. That's the secret to making food good is to get just the right seasonings.
It was a great weekend. I know we don't have tons of money to do all this stuff like going out to eat and the bar, but it helps us keep our sanity right now to get out and have fun. It it wasn't for that I'd be going really nuts. That may explain why I've seen restaurants busy even with the economy. People just need an escape and something to feel good about. Plus, one of my hobbies is going out to eat anyway, just not going out as much these days.

Good weekend for a car show!
I went to the Iola car show many years ago when my kids were little. They had some awesome old muscle cars on display, it was a good time.

We got to see the movie sets set up in Columbus last spring. It was cool seeing it all and wow, all the semis full of stuff. When we saw the movie I only noticed Columbus in the background 3 times and they had it as 2 different locations in the movie. I think they said one was South Dakota. All the work for just a few shots of the town in the background.
Some day I need to make a trip up north to Dillinger's old hangout (the real one). They made it into a bar and it still has the old lookout towers where the gunmen watched out and other memorabilia covers the walls.

so true!
I know most use wine when making theirs, however my ex (Many yrs ago) use to use shell fish & beer to make his... I'd leave the house because of the smell of the fish.
I read somewhere a while back that even with the bad economy restaurants do not seem to be suffering as much as one would expect & fast food places are doing better than before.
The restaurants aren't doing quite as good because of us. We cut back on the number of times we go out to eat quite a while ago and we don't do a lot of fast food, never did really. When we go out we tend to order the cheaper menu items and don't usually buy an alcoholic drink with the meal to make for a cheaper meal. We try to use coupons if we have them or we watch for specials.

I don't remember wine being listed in this dish. Probably different ways to make it.
Hey, all! Going back to Kansas City tomorrow to pick up Misty's kids.. will be back tomorrow night.. early, I hope!
Meanwhile, trying to update some threads here and get some things done before I go.. have to have the apartment clean because there's another inspection tomorrow. Never know whose apartment they'll spotlight.

Oh i hear ya, they aren't doing well because of me either! though i love to eat out to try new places & visit my favorites now & again, they don't get much of my money these days.
I love coupons, the advantage comes with many awesome deals, i've used it often.

Oh i'm sure there is. I recall my ex saying the alcohol used depends on the kind of seafood the dish is made with, so i'm sure some are best with no alcohol or some just dont add it.
Funny you mentioned that place yesterday, a co-worker mentioned having been there (the one in Lake Mills) over the weekend as well with his family & that it was good food... will have to try it some time myself, i have a friend in Lake Mills.

Good morning all! It looks like we could get some rain here later today.
Well, we had a very successful yard sale on Saturday. We had soooo much stuff out there...many people asked me if I really had all of that in my house! After we got it all set up even my son said "Nice flea market Mom!" We have a huge yard (two lots) here and had tables going all the way down in two rows plus the backhoe trailer across the end and a row of other stuff like bikes, punching bag, weight bench etc. We had roped off the yard so people couldn't walk off with stuff, but we still had a few little items come up missing. We sold about three fourths of everything we had out though. I sorted through the "left-overs" yesterday and some will be going to the homeless shelter and some to St. Vincents this week. I still can't believe how much room I have in my basement now! Yay!
I guess I'm stuck at home again today. My hubby is off to a class all day in town and my son might have to go to Platteville later. There is a salesman coming here from Verizon so we can go over our phone book ads plus I have to get a report done for the DNR some time today anyhow. I would really liked to have gone to Ho Chunk instead since my hand is itching like crazy. It's telling me I'm going to get some money....and it's hardly ever been wrong before! Oh well. I will be going there in a couple weeks with my sisters for our bi-annual "get away from the husbands and kids weekend". Only this time we are going for three days instead...two just isn't long enough for us! LOL
many people asked me if I really had all of that in my house!
Morning Everyone
Cindy your sale sounds like the one we have every year except this year I have so much I think we will be having it 2 times. Just hope the weather lets us do it since most of it has to go out in the yard, driveway and everywhere else. lol We have a really large 'tent' almost the size of a garage that we just set up last week and filling it to the top with goodies. People are always commenting on all the 'stuff' we put out. This year will be even more since we are really going through things. I have alot of Ebay clothing inventory that I wanted to list but decided to put it all out at this sale too so should be pretty good.
Well hope everyone has a great day.
Even tho we should be bringing in a bunch of $$ on these 2 sales it's still way to much work for what one gets. lol But it's not all about the money but how you get space in your house when you are done.
When we have a bunch of left over clothes we always give to the clothes closet here in Kenosha. I love to donate to them as I know they don't resale anything but rather give it to those they know are in dire need. I avoid St Vincent since we brought a piece of really nice furniture for a large screen t.v. to sit on. Well made, not cheap. A door was missing on the bottom but they could take the other side off and you would never notice. But they said because of that they tossed it in the dumpster! I have gone in there so many times and seen nothing but junk dirty furniture and they tossed a good piece out. Go figure. I was so angry that I really stopped donating. Oh and they price their clothes way more than Goodwill. They are there to help the people not to make them more broke. We give mostly to Goodwill and the Salvation Army in our uptown area. We always donate to the food pantry here too and give them small household items and school supplies as well as any food we can. They give the things to those in need also.
We also have a organization that is in need of baby items and maternity if anyone has extra they would like to donate. They use them right there for those staying there.

It's just the opposite here. The local Goodwill store sells stuff for almost new prices. That's why I give items to St. Vincent's in Muscoda. They are located in a poorer area and things are priced accordingly there. Plus, they help out the needy more from what I've heard. For example, I know of a young man who was just starting out on his own and couldn't afford to buy any furniture so they let him come in and take what he needed for free. I've also bought clothing items for the school plays there and when they found out they were for the school, they gave me a huge discount on them.
I like to donate to the Salvation Army when I can.. they've helped out both myself and many other people I've known in the past.. I've had to hit their soup kitchen a few times in years past.
Have a good one.. I'm gone for the day to Kansas City.. hope to hit the casino there on the way thru.. be back tonight!

Same here... I use to love to go to goodwill & see what cool things i could find & would get my cleaning supplies (new) at the goodwill in Sheboygan, when i lived there. The prices were way better than shopping wal-mart or whatever, for that type of stuff.
I was amazed when i visited the goodwills here & seen that all the prices are the same or higher than wal-mart, even clothing.

Goodwill charges too much for stuff I often think. I donate to St. Vinnie's and Bethesda Thrift store in Watertown. If I need anything for Halloween I've gone to Salvation Army in Waukesha most often. It's about the only time I go there is Halloween. I've never found much worth buying otherwise as far as household items go. It seems others do, but I never do.
Got back here about quarter to 9, almost 500 miles driven between there and back (Braymer, MO).. we did manage to stop at the Ameristar casino for about 45 mins and split $40 between us before continuing on to get the kids..
pk, if you want more people aware of and gain more customers for your cat rescue business here's a tip you can try at your next yard sale.
What you'll need:
Ziploc bags
Business cards
Put smaller items in ziploc bags, on the back of your business card write down the price of the sale item and put the card in the bag with the price facing out. When the customer gets home and takes out the item they also have your business card.
You can also use your business cards as price tags for larger items, tape the cards to the larger items or for antiques put a small hole through the card, put a string through the hole and attach the tag to the sale item.
Dave, looks like Misty and yourself are one happy couple
