Oh, I just remembered there was another time with this same neighbor that we had a problem with him draining his sump pump hose on to our yard. The whole backyard was covered in 2 inches of water including the flowerbeds and the water was up by our deck, which shows how close to the house it ran.
We did talk to them because there is no way I wanted a swamp in my backyard. We would have lost all the flowers and probably not good for the lawn to be underwater constantly. His sump pump runs all the time non-stop and you can't just drain your water on someone else's lawn. His problem shouldn't become our problem.
I don't see the dog pee situation as any different. People can't just wreck stuff in your yard. It's not like we do that to others.
Looks like I'll be gone all day Saturday and Sunday for the 4th to Kansas City, leaving at 8:30 tomorrow morning.. not looking forward to the holiday traffic, three finicky kids.. plus neither one of us have a cell phone if we run into trouble.
Will see you when I get back.. everyone have a great 4th of July!
What did you do in the old days without a cell phone? LOL
I don't even own one. I don't make that many phone calls for it to be worth it. What kind of trouble do you plan on running into? I'm sure nothing will happen.
I have yet to travel thru Kansas City without running into horrendous traffic and road construction.. 3 kids, flat tire, no cell phone = trouble.
I won't get a contract phone anymore because I don't use it enough.. I need to get another prepaid tho for when we're on the road (which I hope is often)..
In other news.. I wanted some extra cash to bring along so sold two clocks for $95 a few minutes ago.

I know I have no idea how we lived without cell phones. I can't begin to tell you how many texts and calls I get in a day. I actually remember when I did not think it was important to have a regular phone and we went a very long time without one. We didn't live far from a pay phone and figured if we really needed to call someone we could walk over and use that. lol Now you rarely see pay phones anymore.
We have no really big plans this weekend except I do know we will watch the fireworks. I notice the weather is suppose to be really rainy in the a.m until around noon or so but the rest of the day is suppose to be OK. As long as we can cook out for dinner and fireworks later, my day will be good.
Are there any good restaurants in the Dells? I don't think I've found one yet, well, except for Green Mill and that's a chain restaurant.
I don't think I'd know the difference between authentic or Tex Mex or whatever even if it hit me on the head. Like many Americans I just lump it all together to make things easier and because I don't know the difference. Looked it up one day and what I found was that Mexico was divided by 6 different regions where the dishes differ depending on spices and other ingredients used. Oh boy, more confusion. I wonder if other ethnic foods are as divided. Hmm, Chinese has different regions where the food varies. Yet still I lump it all together haha. This is getting as confusing at deciding which songs belong to what music type with 200 categories. There again, I'm lumping all kinds of music under rock instead of what type of rock to make it easier. Boy, we sure like categorizing our lives. Does anyone think I'm tired and overthinking this?
I tend to do the same with Chinese, Japanese etc... even when i go get Cajun food, i tend to call it Chinese lol weird
Maybe because i grew up on & cook Mexican, that must be why i don't tend to lump those into one.
About 2 years ago in the fall we spent a weekend at the dells and wondered the same thing. We went in to one restaurant for lunch, sat down and checked out the menu and got up and left after realizing it was a veggie place only. No hamburgers. lol I remember we went down the road a bit and came across a place that was pretty good for hamburgers. Since it was day time there wasn't alot of people in there so it was nice.
Later for dinner we went to one place and again, we didn't care for the place and drove around some more and came across a place with the name 'Phil' in it. Can't quite remember the name except that and it was on the order of a Texas Roadhouse maybe? Anyways, we got a decent steak out of there and I would totally go back there next time we are up at the Dells.
Buffalo Phil's maybe.... It was suggested to me for their pizza & because i love good wings, but i had a steak instead & was very happy with it.
You would think the Dells would have more to offer for fine dining with GOOD food, it really doesn't. Ho-Chunk is good, i like their food.
Confronting your neighbor is likely to make things worse...I'd not say anything more...and hope for the best...if you lose the spruce and junipers, chalk it up as not worth an escalation, which may turn violent.
OH, the dog is NOT responsible...the owner of the dog is...GOOD LUCK in a tough situation.
Bad advice when their is time & money being lost. In fact even if there wasn't money involved, let's say the dog was digging holes in my yard (has happened to me before), should i have to fill those holes each time just to avoid talking to my neighbor about it? hell no. As blue said, if i don't have a dog why should i clean up after one?

Why should I keep replacing expensive trees and bushes so their dog can keep peeing on them? It most certainly is a problem that needs to be addressed. There's been a few times when their dog wondered over here and pooped in the yard. I don't have a dog and shouldn't have to worry about stepping in dog crap or cleaning it up.
I agree with you & would definitely confront the neighbors about it.
I have had a cell phone since the 90's & haven't had a home phone since 2002 because of cell phones. I text a lot with my bestfriend while she's at work & others as well. My cell has come in handy during many emergencies over the yrs.
I been up all night. scrubbed down my kitchen appliances, mopped the floor & wiped down the walls, pretreated & scrubbed my carpets so that i can finish them later... I slept all afternoon yesterday & i'm sure i'll regret it later.

I was thinking the original advice is bad also, because it is allowing someone to do damage to your property. Use that same advice in another situation and it becomes clearer. Say if the neighbor's kids are bouncing basketballs and it keeps hitting your siding and wrecking it. You wouldn't ignore that or keep replacing it every year.
The number of junipers and spruce I have in back is 14. They form a line near the lot line to block the view and give each other privacy when on the deck. Otherwise we'd be able to see in each other's patio doors. I can't imagine replacing that many trees and waiting for them to grow all over again. The simple solution is to tie the dog up farther away. They don't let him run loose anyway since their other dog used to run all over and even bit a few dogs and people. They got rid of that dog for that reason.

I don't really make that many phone calls, so it's not worth it to me. I don't get many calls either. Neither of us wants to be attached to a phone 24 hours a day. It's really not that hard to life without a phone 24 hours a day. When I leave the house I don't want to be bothered. Besides it's another bill for me and we are trying to save money right now. Personally, I think way too many people are addicted to their phones and it drives me nuts when they have check them constantly, especially when out with friends, that's rude.

There's a good possibility that the neighbor has no idea their dog is destroying your bushes. They may not even realize that the acidity in the urine is bad for the trees.
(I have a brown spot on my lawn from a nighbor who lets her dog pee in the SAME place nightly in my yard)
I spoke with her about it one night when she wandered over with her dog and mentioned it and she felt badly. Ever since, she leads him across the street to the empty lot and he's fine with that.
Brown spot gone.
I don't see anything wrong with just talking to them in a friendly "neighborly" way about it.
Why spend all this time stressing about it when maybe a friendly little chat could more than likely clear this up?
All they have to do is retract the yard leash 3-4'.
Done deal.
btw.....good morning.
How was everyone's 4th of July?
I got quite the show last night......neighbors on both sides, every year they treat us to quite the professional display, and directly across the intercoastal on the island I counted over a dozen places where people were doing the same. Straight up in the sky was a full moon shining down on the water, adding a special touch to that view. This went on for an hour, my dogs were actually WATCHING it all and not barking, except little guy, he yipped twice when there was a big BOOM or 2.
Simply amazing, being surrounded by multi-colored light. Even looking west towards Pensacola Beach, which is about 10 miles away via water, I could see their big show!
Navarre had their "real fireworks" early, on Thu. night, but it wasn't as good as this "non-pro" show last night!
There were so many huge-high-up-in-the-sky-fireworks, all going off at the same time for nearly an hour! You couldn't even look at all of them at the same time!
Amazing. I will never go anywhere again for fireworks, just sit right here on my porch!
If I would have known how big it was going to be, I would have asked friends over. Shame on me!
I wasn't here last year in the new huse yet, so I had no idea it had grown this big!
Well, off to work, hope everyone is doing OK.
Happy Sunday!

.....just another day in Paradise
Hope everyone is enjoying their 4th of July weekend.
We decided to go to the fireworks here in Kenosha rather than drive to Zion where we usually go for the show. Wow. What a difference. I have a feeling we will not be going to Zion on the 4th ever again. lol We had a great spot a bit further from the fireworks then we usually go but a nice enough view. We were right near Villa D Carlos and of course the smell of pizza was calling our names out. So we ordered a pizza, set up our chairs and ate right there. Good food.
The fireworks over the lake was really nice and I took a ton of pics. Will post some later when I have time to actually check them all out.
Well got up way to late so better get the day going.
I don't see anything wrong with just talking to them in a friendly "neighborly" way about it.
I agree, I think asking the person nicely is always the best way at first. But just watch out, I have found many times over no matter how nicely you try to tell someone something, they end up getting mad at you because most people like to think they are right no matter what. But at least you will know you did the right thing at first.
The neighbor we have some issues with has been told nicely from other neighbors and knows their dog runs around. I think taking a pic of their dog in 'action' in our yard with a gentle reminder that their dog is ruining something and send it or drop it off may help.
I was just sitting here thinking that last night was the most quiet 4th of July in our neighborhood I think we have ever had in all the years we lived here. Either that is a sign that everyone is starting to finally grow up around us or everyone is finally to broke to waste on fireworks. OR I could be speaking to soon and all heck will break out tonight. ...
Hope everyone is enjoying their 4th of July weekend.
Good morning! Thanks for all the nice birthday wishes yesterday!
My sister and her husband took us to lunch at an Italian restaurant in Mt. Horeb. They had excellent food and what a great atmosphere there as well! Afterwards, we went to Fitchburg and watched "Public Enemies". My nephew was an "extra" in the scene where Dillinger is in the theater and the FBI director is giving out Junior FBI badges to some young boys on the screen.
I enjoyed the movie of course because Johnny Depp was in it but it wasn't his best performance. He has been in some very strange movies (Edward Scissor Hands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Secret Window, and Sweeney Todd) and he has another one coming out soon playing The Mad Hatter in "Alice In Wonderland". He was really good in "The Pirates of the Caribbean" movies but I liked him best in "Benny and Joon"...that's one of my favorite movies.
So...what's everyone planning for this bright sunny Sunday?
Our local town (Richland Center) is doing their fireworks tonight instead of last night. They also hired a "Lumberjack Show" to come in and perform three shows throughout the day at the park for free. I heard they are doing log rolling and cutting and I think maybe climbing too among other things and it's free for the public. I've never been to one before and it would be interesting to see but I don't know if I could get my husband to go with me. So...we may just end up staying home today. I do need to price more items for the yard sale yet anyhow.
I'm back.. checking quickly for spam but won't be on for the most part as we have other plans..
We got to her brother's in Orrick, Missouri (near Kansas City) about 10:30.. by nightfall we'd had about 75-100 people there, tons of food, many, MANY kids..
I got to meet Misty's brother and sister, parents and grandparents, great-grandparents, cousins, etc. Had a big fireworks display, about $700 worth... but we really wanted to come home last night after a long day.. left at 11:30 and got home sometime after 2:30 and fell right into bed.
Gonna go for a drive somewhere today, haven't decided where yet.. be back later!

I'm sure the neighbor has to know. Their tree that they tie the dog to is close to our lot line. If they shortened the leash, he'd be left with 2 feet of leash. They would have to move him farther over. Not a whole lot trees in his yard to choose from, but not my problem. He could put in something to tie the dog to other than a tree.

Last year we went to Pewaukee Lake's fireworks and I really liked it because the yacht club does theirs the same night across the lake and many private ones going off around the lake in every direction. Makes for a nice display. I heard this year they cut the budget for fireworks, so I don't know how it was. They had people donating money also.
We did Oconomowoc's fireworks on Friday and they seemed short this year. Maybe it was just me.
Saturday we spent the whole day at Summerfest. I got a lot of walking in and eating. Been going there for 24 years. I can't believe the time goes so fast, but I always have fun watching all the bands. I want to know why they put all the big name bands on at the same time and you have to choose which one to see. I was stuck choosing between 3 bands, so we watched half of a new band called Anberlin and then walked over to Theory of a Deadman. Hubby wanted to see Jet, but I didn't. I got to see one of my fave bands from Chicago called Lovehammers and the singer made some wisecrack about Potawatomi being a fun word to say, kind of like gazebo and tippy toes LOL. Lots of colored hair and funny clothes walking the fest. Always good for people watching. Seemed like a smaller crowd than normal. Not hard to get around at all. I guess people either didn't like the colder weather there or they are saving money.
