Well I seem to find myself many pages behind on this forum. I tried to skim over but decided to start fresh here. I did see Dave that you have had some mighty bad weather. Hope everything is OK around you.
The weather was beyond the word beautiful out today here. Only wish I had time to really spend outside and working on the flower beds. Hopefully the weather holds and I can get some work done this weekend. Seems like I am behind in everything in my life lately!
Just wondering, has anyone ever taken their cat in for their rabies/distemper shots only to have the cat have a bad reaction? My poor Savannah cat had a bad time of it after his shots yesterday morning. Finally starting to get back to feeling a bit better. Had us worried for awhile.
Glad things have calmed down there Dave, It looks like it was pretty bad! It's been raining here, but tomorrow doesn't look promising either with a high of 58ş and rain, which will hopefully end in the morning.
I'm going to try & quit smoking come Monday... wish me luck! I've been down to about 5 cigs a day now... wish me luck!
I'll be in Beaver Dam tomorrow afternoon, going to pick my son up finally, meeting his aunt half way... been a week too long! How will i ever get along when he moves out, i'll drive myself crazy alone!
Latina you can do it. Just think of all the money you'll save, plus you'll feel better. After you quit the hard part is resisting "I'll have just one" cig. That's how the cycle starts all over again.
Well I better get some sleep, I need to get up at 5:30, Garage Sales Today

Thanks Ken, it's so true... every time i've quit it's always the "just one" or "only now because im drinking" that gets me back to smoking... i wont do that & hopefully succeed this time

Anyone have plans for the weekend?
Stay strong, Latina! Best of luck!
Plans for the weekend...a little Mother's Day shopping today and brunch at my oldest son's house on Sunday, then to visit my mom in the afternoon. Other than that, it's the usual...grocery shopping, laundry, etc. Who has more fun?

Thanks Tamed! Enjoy your day shopping, i may have to get groceries & stuff today too, at some point.
I'm getting ready to head out soon, going to make the drive to Beaver Dam alone, since my daughter isn't in the mood for a road trip, once i get my son we plan on eating at Ponderosa while in Beaver Dam. mmm i can hardly wait!
When I say it wasn't that bad.. when I first moved out this way, we drove thru Pierce City, Mo. which had just been hit by a tornado not long before..entire sections of the town were completely wiped out (and the town has still not fully recovered).. now that was a storm.

That is so scary! I remember when the town of Barneveld was hit by an F5 tornado back in 1984 and 9 people were killed! My sister lives one town over from there and they just finished building a steel encased tornado shelter in their basement. I sure wish we had one here too!

Good luck Latina...I know you can do it! My mom is trying to quit too. She threw her tobacco away last week (rolled her own cigs) and is doing okay so far.

That's easy...don't let him move out! LOL Seriously, I know hard it is when they finally leave home. I cried for days when my youngest son went off to college for the first time. I don't know how I will handle it when he graduates and gets a job somewhere away from home. I just hope it's not too far away that we can't visit each other often.

No plans for today other than completing a report for the DNR that has to be emailed in by tonight.
Since tomorrow is Mother's Day, my hubby said I get to choose what we're doing for the day. I would like to go visit my son at Platteville, but I don't want to bother him when I know he has to study for the two finals he has on Monday plus he has fraternity stuff going on in the evening. So I guess we will go in whatever direction we feel like once we get into the van in the morning.

I head to the basement every time we have a tornado watch. My husband on the other hand loves storms and will go outside and stand in them!
I remember Barneveld's tornado. It was strange going by there after they rebuilt it all. All the houses were brand new. That tornado put Barneveld on the map, because most people never heard of it before that. Dane county is tornado alley it seems. Also North of us (Watertown) by Beaver Dam and that area gets a lot of tornado action.
From that link you posted, Cindy, did you see that Wis. had one of the top 10 deadliest tornadoes in US history. I didn't know that. It was in 1899 in New Richmond. I'm not sure where that is, but I've heard of it.
I also didn't know that the Barneveld tornado produced 46 tornadoes across the country. It sounds like it is rare for a tornado to hit during the night as that one did.
One of the girls I talk to online is from Alaska, but she is originally from TX. She said that she's been through tornadoes and hurricanes, but the worst are the earthquakes in Alaska because there is nowhere to hide from them. She said she knows when one is coming because the cats walk around like they have tape stuck on their feet.

I didn't know that either. We went through Barneveld about three months after the tornado went through. It was not a pretty sight but it was amazing how the towns people rallied together and helped each other. We were also back there a couple years after that to help them get a Jaycee chapter started and met a lot of nice people.

I don't think I would want to live where there are a lot of earthquakes either. My mom grew up in California and moved to Wisconsin after she got married in 1952. She said she would NEVER go back to California after living here. She hated the earthquakes and said that you can at least go in a basement to get away from the tornadoes but you can't do much about the earthquakes!
I went to Beaver Dam yesterday, didn't get to go to Ponderosa because my sons aunt got lost THREE times, i ended up waiting over 2 hours & when she found Columbus i finally said "STAY THERE!" & i drove to Columbus to meet her. Since they don't have a Ponderosa & i didn't feel like back tracking to Beaver Dam, we grabbed culvers & came home.
My bestfriend came from IL & we went to the Dells, met up with my friends at their hotel, played Mexican (drinking game, dice) and then we played some cribbage, but we chose not to spend the night & came home last night. We went to Perkins on the way home, played cards for a while when we got home & stayed up all night talking, all in all, it was a great day/night & i needed that!
My son was up early (before we made it to bed) so we took showers & went to Mothers day breakfast. Needless to say we didn't get much sleep this morning, but my bestfirend has gone home, man i miss her living here
surprisingly enough, my foot feels good today & it's lifetime (tv) Sunday

I give your mom props, how long had she been a smoker?

I cried forever & a day when my daughter moved out... she has been back home for 3 months & now she is planning on moving almost 3 hrs away (next week) and that's hard to deal with, but when my youngest leaves i don't know how i will handle it... living alone will be sooo hard!
Walked up to the supermarket a bit ago.. about 3/4's of a mile from here around the corner is a Baptist church with two trees fown from the storm the other day. Lots of trees and branches down in the cemetery.. two big trees down across one of the culverts and a tree fell into the front porch of a house and all this short of a mile from my apartment.

My mom is 73 and has been smoking since she was 15 years old. In fact she broke her back when she was 17 because she was cutting class to have a cigarette and fell off the bleachers! She tried quitting after my dad died from lung cancer at the age of 55 but she couldn't because she said she was under too much stress at the time.

That would be hard to be alone and to have a child move 3 hours away! I know I will be a total wreck if my youngest ever moves away. We are so close and we talk about everything. It's not the same with my oldest son who is 8 years older than his brother. We were always at odds and disagreed on things so it wasn't as hard when he moved away. I haven't seen him for two years now since he lives in Oklahoma but he is coming up in June for our family reunion. I will finally get to meet his new wife and step-son then.

I hope everyone has a wonderful moms day!!!
Thank you Latina! I hope you enjoyed your Mother's Day too! I also hope everyone had a great day today and got pampered at least a little bit!
We decided (coincidentally) to go to Ponderosa at the Dells for a late lunch today. Then we thought we would take in a movie at the theater by the Kalahari but didn't see any we were interested in. So, we went to the Arcade in the Kalahari instead and played mini golf and then we played the arcade games for about an hour. I hit the jackpot on one of the games and ended getting over 600 tickets! We gave them away to a couple of kids who were very excited to get them. We always do that when we win the tickets on games like that. It's so much fun to watch their expressions when we hand them a fist full of tickets for them to cash in! LOL
Anyhow, we had a really fun day. Now it's time to go watch Desperate Housewives. Later all.
