I remember as a kid when Shakey's Pizza had piano and bango players who would sing songs. I wonder if anyone here remembers that. That was back in the '70s.
I miss the Shakey's in Waukesha with the pizza buffet and those good Mojo potatoes.
Could it have been the 80's too? I remember when Shakey's was the place to be! When i was a kid we went to shakeys at least once a week in Rockford (usually saturday or sunday), i remember the live characters being there as well, but that changed many many yrs ago.
I was sad when Shakeys closed down in Janesville a couple yrs ago, I felt like Shakeys had seriously come to an end & i had been hoping it wouldn't. lots of memories, from when i was a little kid to my teens & even when my kids were small, were made at shakeys.
does Appleton still have theirs on Wisconsin or College Dr?
I remember Shakey's Pizza here in Kenosha back then. It was really popular for the18-21 year olds since then they could drink beer or wine at Shakey's with their pizza. Beer with pizza sounds gross to me but it's what was good then I guess.
The taste of beer with anything sounds gross to me lol
There are only a few beers i've taste that i can actually say didn't taste like crap to me to begin with. However, even when i was a big drinker, drinking with food was way gross to me... Kinda like being a smoker & i cant stand the smell of the cig smoke.
I just googled and found a Shakeys in Milwaukee. Have to stop there sometime.
Shakey's:
9638 W National Ave Milwaukee, WI 53227 - (414) 541-9260
According to their website search that ones no longer in business, seems none show for WI & if you try other states such as California a bunch come up, but WI shows none & the zip code you posted shows 0
I would think they would show if it was, but is there another way for us to know for sure?? wanna go check that out & get back to me please PK?? lol
I was thinking i might have to find that shakeys next time im in Milwaukee, which will be next wkend.
I hate eating food around someone smoking, it's like dipping your food into the ashtray.
I agree... I cant even stand to look at an ashtray while eating, it's so gross.. yet i smoke dang addictions! Oh well, it's my one vice & i'll drop it when i feel i'm able... today's not the day lol but yeah food & beer or food & smoke, not a good mix IMO
Beer with pizza sounds gross to me but it's what was good then I guess.
Oh beer and pizza is so good together. If you're not a beer drinker, you probably won't understand, but a frosted mug of ice cold beer with pizza..yum!!!

Milk with pizza is what I find gross. I can drink milk with any meal, but not pizza. It has to be soda or beer.

The problem with drinking and eating is that you end up eating too much. I don't know why that is. That's after a few drinks though, not just one. Dang it, now I could go for some beer and pretzels and I can't because I'm getting ready to leave the house soon.

LOL, I know what you mean. It would be the same with any unpleasant smell while eating. I wouldn't want to smell cow crap while eating or nasty B.O. smell while eating.

Back in the day (i was a big drinker) and anytime i was drinking & would start to eat, the beer would gross me out if i tried to continue drinking.. so whenever i drink i stay away from food, otherwise i will stop drinking for the night... I don't know what it is with me, i cant eat & drink beer, probably cuz i hate the taste of beer... now a well made daiquiri with a good Italian or Mexican meal... that is GOOD to me
I say someone who lives close or frequents Milwaukee go & check it out for us... I would love to stop by there next weekend
Milwaukee is just too busy with traffic & such to be driving way out of my way looking for it, being that i am clueless to what is what in the city... someone familiar with Miltown wanna check it out?

I learned to like beer at an early age. It's an acquired taste I'd say because of the bitterness. I can't drink real bitter beers. I usually stick with wheat or weiss beers. I could go for a Summer Shandy right now.
I just heard the tornado sirens going off here. It must be that time of year again. I think it was only a test since the sky is half clear.
Nevermind i just asked some of the guys & one co-worker tells me that when Janesville closed down his son worked there & everyone was told there would be no more Shakeys in the midwest
I just tried calling the # PK posted... disconnected.

What part you going to? I know of some good restaurants and such. Milwaukee isn't too confusing for the most part unless you count the new interchange they put in downtown. That has me all messed up with different exits being gone now and trying to figure out the rest.
You know what this forum needs? A restaurant section. Why don't we have one?

I go to sheboygan most times, in which case i will just pass by Milwaukee on the highway. however i do sometimes stop & visit friends in Milw, which i will do next weekend as well... Some friends are on Meineke, which i think is the south side? then i have friends on the East & when i go see my ex-co-workers (not often enough) i travel over to Cesar Chavez & National Drive area.
Wasn't a FOOD section (for the forum) discussed once? not so much the recipe section, but more of a restaurant section? Not sure, but sounds familiar... either that or sounds familiar because every thread turns into food with us LOL
"Shakey's Pizza was founded in Sacramento, California, on April 30, 1954, by Sherwood "Shakey" Johnson and Ed Plummer. Johnson's nickname resulted from nerve damage following a bout of malaria suffered during World War II.
Shakey personally played dixieland jazz piano to entertain patrons. Shakey's initially became known outside Sacramento, not for its pizza, but for the jazz program it sponsored on a regional radio network. Shakey Johnson is honored in the Banjo Hall of Fame in Guthrie, Oklahoma, for his longtime use of banjo music at his pizza parlors. Other live music, including piano, was also a staple in the old Shakey's parlors.
Shakey's has gone from 325 stores throughout the United States in 1974 to 63 stores as of 2008, 55 of them in California. There are two stores east of the Mississippi River: Warner Robins, Georgia and Auburn, Alabama. The West Allis, Wisconsin store closed on June 30, 2008.Only three Shakey's stores exist in the West outside California: Nogales, Arizona and two in suburban Seattle."

I haven't been to south Milwaukee anything in a while. I used to go to Southridge Mall or head down Hwy. 100 quite a bit. I don't get that way much anymore, usually stick to the west side around Brookfield area and occasionally downtown. While we are on the subject of pizza, Milwaukee has a good pizza place and there is only one left that I know of. That is Ned's Pizza. The crust was so good, kind of light and airy like bread and crispy on the outside. I forgot where it is exactly.

We discussed it before. We do have a general food section and I know you could probably put restaurant info there, but I'm sure more people would be more likely to post in a restaurant section when looking for such a thing.

I'm a sucker for a soft crust, love it!
