Did you know this about Wisconsin?

Did you know that 75% of Wisconsinites were actually born here?
That means 3 out of every 4 born in Wisconsin stayed here according to the 2007 U.S. Census Bureau.

JS Online: 75% who live in Wisconsin were born here, census finds

Re: Did you know this about Wisconsin?

That's quite different from most places I've lived around the country. Seemed like no one was native to wherever it was I was living at the time.

Re: Did you know this about Wisconsin?

Sounds as if you have been all over the place, which place other than Wisconsin did you really like? Which place IN Wisconsin was your favorite?
I'm guessing you were native born so is that why you came back to live here?

Just wondering.

Re: Did you know this about Wisconsin?

Keith......

I know I've read that you were born here in Wisconsin, but you lived in a ton of different areas through out the state. What part was your favorite place to live and why? Do you have any thoughts on wandering to another state to live or is your roots here for good?

Anyone else?

If you were native born, what has kept you here? Generations of family? Job? Just love it here and have no desire to move?

just wondering.

Re: Did you know this about Wisconsin?

Actually I was born in the South and prefer the North because the heat and humidity don't agree with me. I think it would be hard to pick a favorite place I've lived as they were all special to me in some way.

Re: Did you know this about Wisconsin?

I was born in Rockford IL & raised mostly in Texas, I moved to WI when i was 15, with my parents.

When my mom returned to Texas i chose to stay here (I was 17 then), but swore i'd return home one day. I didn't do that until i was 26 & it took me all of 5 months to realize that there is little money to be made in Texas & i returned to WI.

I love that jobs pay much better here, benefits are offered through employers much more often & a lot cheaper than in Texas, no matter your industry. It sometimes takes moving away to realize just how great WI is for making a living & supporting a familia. as a single mom we have had hard times here, but i would have never survived on the minimal pay & sad excuse for benefits over there.

I too have lived in several areas of Wisconsin & i'd have to say my favorite is a toss up between Sheboygan & Madison.

I'm here for good. And I hope that I'm good for here.

Born in Oconomowoc. Love hearing people from out of state try to say that one! Live in Menomonee Falls, right next to Sussex, Lisbon and Lannon for twenty years now, all in one home.

I do daydream sometimes of being a snowbird. The thought of spending a good part of January and all of February in Vegas or the Keys... I love Wisconsin but that time of year I think I'm a little cabin-feverish.

My family's been here for 3 generations (me, parents, grandparents), 4 with my kids. Great-grandparents, 4th generation back from me, were actually west of here, Twin Cities and South Dakota.

Because I lived in an unreal number of places throughout SE Wisconsin by the time I got to High School, I'm all for roots. That's part of what keeps me where I am. Building community, knowing a lot of people, those are important to me, too.

I might like to move to a more rural part of Wisconsin one day, or at least have some land to hunt and fish, maybe put up a cabin or trailer, and get to know the place over time before settling in, rather than an abrupt shift at retirement (if that ever happens!). Of course, wherever I end up in Wisconsin, I'll likely have an old friend or two there...from here. And a lot of old friends still with me...from here. At least I like to think so.

Regards,
Keith
