The present cast-iron Sheboygan Lighthouse commenced operation in 1905 and was moved to the end of the breakwater in 1915. Before this time, Sheboygan had been served by a second lighthouse located on North Point, the prominence one mile north of the harbor. The North Point Lighthouse was deactivated in 1904, and in 1916, the keeper's dwelling was relocated just a few blocks inland from the bluff, where it has since been used as a residence
Located at the end of the north breakwater in Sheboygan's harbor
From Interstate 43 west of Sheboygan, take exit 126 and proceed east on Kohler Memorial Drive. As you continue straight, the road will become Erie Street. Turn right on 4th Street and then turn left onto Washington Court. At the end of Washington, turn right onto Broughton Drive and then left into the marina parking lot where you will find the start of the breakwater that leads to the Sheboygan Lighthouse
The lighthouse is owned by the Coast Guard. Grounds open, tower closed.
Located at the end of the pier on the northern side of the entrance to the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal
Built in 1915. 55 feet tall. Working fog horn. No tours. Located on the harbor's north breakwall in Deland Park. View from the shore or reach the lighthouse via the stone and concrete breakwater
On Highway 42, just north of where it crosses Sturgeon Bay, turn east on Utah Street, right on Cove Road, then left onto Canal Drive. Follow Canal Drive 2.7 miles to the Coast Guard Station. Park near the entrance to the Coast Guard station and then follow the paved road through the Coast Guard station to the pier, where the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Pierhead Lighthouse is located
The lighthouse is owned by the Coast Guard. Grounds open, dwelling/tower closed
Built in 1913. Located at the west pierhead entrance to Superior harbor, the Wisconsin Point Lighthouse replaced the previous lighthouse on the easterly end of Minnesota Point. Accessible by concrete walkways, but not open for tours. Two lighthouse keeper residences are nearby.
Located at the end of a breakwater marking the entrance to Superior Bay
From Highway 2 south of Superior, turn east on Moccasin Mike Road and travel 1.4 miles. At this point, turn left onto Wisconsin Point Road and follow this road out onto Wisconsin Point at the end of a narrow finger of land helping to form Superior Bay. The Superior Entry Lighthouse can be see on your right near the end of the road
The lighthouse is owned by the Coast Guard. Grounds open, tower closed
This is all great information.
Here is a link to lighthouses of Lake Michigan. There are photos of some of the lighthouses described in some of the previous posts. Lake Michigan Lighthouses - a set on Flickr
Oh, I love lighthouses!! Each one is different. I remember staying at a hotel in Northern California and listening to the lighthouse in the distance at night. It was relaxing.
This lighthouse is in Florida...but I have such great photo's and info I'll share here in this thread, and maybe someone going to FL will visit
Sorry I can't get my photo's to come up in photo bucket, so I'll just attach them here (small attachment)
First photo
This lighthouse was completed in 1887. The Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station was built when the area was known as Mosquito Inlet.
After decades of restoration by the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Association, it stands today as one of the best preserved, most complete Light Stations in the nation.
The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Florida and one of the tallest lighthouses in the nation.
It's a 175 feet to the top....I did chicken out, but my daughter got to the top and took some awesome photos. She could see the Florida coastline and Halifax River from Daytona Beach to New Smyrna Beach

The Ayres Davies Lens Exhibit Building houses one of the finest collections of restored Fresnel lenses in the world, including the rotating first order Fresnel lens from the Cape Canaveral lighthouse and the restored original Ponce Inlet lighthouse first order Fresnel lens.
The cast green pedistal is original to the lighthouse and was assembled there in the fall of 1887
It supported the huge first order fixed Fresnel lens and the original karosene lamp that was lit for the first time ~ Nov 1, 1887
In 1933 a pedital for the rotating Third Order Fresnel lens was mounted ontop of the original pedistal
This is still being used to support the Third Order lens that was restored and returned to service in 2004

Neat. Listening to the lighthouse. I'm just the right distance from train tracks..love hearing those train horns in the far off at night.
