I thought of finding if there was a forum on here about good places to eat but decided this resturant we found tonight was worthy of having a post of it's own.
We normally go out to dinner on Saturday nights. I think we were in a mood for something unlike the normal places we pick. We felt adventurous.
So we opened up the Entertainment Guide...( a book everyone should buy each year if you go out to eat a lot). Anyways,
Ilija's Place in Cudahy. Wow, never heard of this place before. Serbian food? Never had it before.
So we set our Navigon and off we went in search of food of the unknown to us.

The place was easy to find, looked interesting on the outside, and then we went in the doors....well all I can say is we had an amazing time and the most wonderful homemade food.
After we admitted to our waiter/son of the owner, that we have never ate anything on the menu before, nor could we pronounce anything and had no idea what most of it was...lol he had a great time with us. Extremely friendly, fun and informative. He helped me to decide on the Schnitzel a la Karadjordje. Turns out it is actually a dish named for a War Hero who led the fight for Serbian independence against the Turks in the early 19th century. He also suggested a wonderful special salad for the two of us. It was a combination of feta cheese, fresh crisp tomatoes, green peppers in a slight oil base. Wonderful!
I have to say that every bite was totally awesome. I was very amazed at the blends of the spices, the flavor of the meat, the aroma of the cheese in my dinner. It was truly a meal that was not only good to eat but to smell, and visually appealing.
After reading the website when we came home I find that this is a family owned resturant of which both sons work at with the father and mother. The mother does the majority of all the cooking in a very small kitchen in the back.
All I can say is if you want to go somewhere moderately priced, very comfortable, extremely a feel of being a guest in someones dining room, and looking for adventurous and worthy food to eat. Then consider
Ilijas Place.
