Re: Lake Delton/Storms
There has been some incredible video of what happen. What a tragedy for all of the people involved.
It really affects businesses as well as property owners. By the time this is all done there will be a lot of people out of work. These people rely on the summer season to make a difference in their lives. This is so sad. For everyone involved.

Re: Lake Delton/Storms
Lake Delton was there on Saturday; I drove right past it! It's amazing that a lake can just disappear.
So many communities in Wisconsin are devastated. Lake Delton relies on tourism and now that industry is on hold until the lake is rebuilt. Will Wisconsin finally get federal aid to help with these disasters?

Re: Lake Delton/Storms
Federal aid??
Isn't that all the money we send overseas??
and we have none left for ourselves!!!!
We don't have money for good roads, or to repair bridges, or dams to prevent these problems in the first place.
Maybe it's time to stop the flow of money out and start keeping some for all of us.
Would life improve?
I think so.

Re: Lake Delton/Storms
Just read that the Governor will be working quickly on restoring this lake for those that depend on this lake for their livelihood. This 267-acre lake attracts over 3 million visitors a year.

Please - the dollars we send overseas are too little, not too much.
We send about 0.16% of our tax dollars overseas for foreign aid (not including military budgets). That's a lower percentage than a dozen-plus other countries, though a greater total because we have such a large economy.
See US and Foreign Aid Assistance - Global Issues
We have the dollars to help our own - usually what we're missing is the political will to do so.
Regards,
Keith

Re: Lake Delton/Storms
I'm with Keith on this one. I know the actual number sounds horrendous, but it's not as much as it sounds like, in actual percentage. The politics are holding back and spending in other areas that we don't necessarily know about or don't agree with. At least for a lot of us.

"Property owners who had their homes swept away or destroyed as Lake Delton flooded its banks won't be covered by national flood insurance because the Village of Lake Delton had suspended its participation in the National Flood Insurance Program."
How sad is that!

I have to question why anyone would buy a property near water if they couldn't get flood insurance. As nature has proven this week, major flooding can happen without warning. Why tempt fate, especially when some of those properties were worth hundreds of thousands of dollars? We have our dinky little house insured for everything short of sasquatch attacks!

Re: Lake Delton/Storms
I am just speculating here, but I don't think anyone buys a home thinking it ISN'T going to be insurable...Buyer beware!
Also, probably most of these homes were purchased before the community forfeited its insurability. What were the elected officials thinking!!!
