Average Day in the life of the average American

I've been thinking about how much time we spend online, both out of curiosity and to figure out how to get more Wisconsinites to devote some of their time online to theBubbler.

That led me to a search for the "average American day." Some of the results I found follow.

Charts from the American Time Use Survey shows the average adult American time use on a work day.

An excellent, verbose treatise on the Average American from Time at: One Day in America - America By The Numbers - TIME

Put your numbers in a continuation of the Time piece at: One Day in America - TIME

Invariably, looking at the way the "Average American" spends their time leads to a discussion of television viewing habits like the one at: Television - which leads off with:
Television Statistics According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day (or 28 hours/week, or 2 months of nonstop TV-watching per year). In a 65-year life, that person will have spent 9 years glued to the tube.

Do you resemble the surveyed in these surveys?

Regards,
Keith

Re: Average Day in the life of the average American

During rehab / orphan baby season..... I spend hours and hours in front of the TV as I sit there feeding all the hungry babies.

As the babies get bigger and start eating on their own I am in front of the TV less and less

Re: Average Day in the life of the average American

4 hours a day sound like a lot...but when you factor in 1 hour at noon for All My Children. (can't miss that one), and then at least 1 good show at night which is at least an hour, some news, and late night viewing I might get to 4 hours at the most. Many times I rather not watch t.v. and just surf the net instead. And of course getting on the bubbler's forums rates at the top!

4 hours is enough time to feed some baby coons. How many can I send you?

Re: Average Day in the life of the average American

Even given days of no TV, I'd say I average far more than 4 hours a day.

Thing is, I'm not "glued to it" - at least half my watching is actually listening I tivo virtually everything on book TV and play back the talking heads while on the internet.

Baseball is great for surfing or reading. You can listen to the game and be sure you'll get a replay when there's any action.

Just those two items mean about 4 hours a day, and I watch (listen) to much more. The stuff I'm "glued to" is Star Trek Voyager reruns that I Tivo. 1 hour of TV in 40 minutes.

Regards,
Keith
