Angry Penning; Wisc's Latest Participation ? Phoopah???

Is it just me or am I behind on the times???
I am a member of the National Humane Society and donate the few dollars I have to various needs for our four-legged and feathered friends. Yesterday I received my newest newsletter and was appalled to read an aticle in which our State was named as one of three.
I can get real emotional about such things and so I hesitated to share. BUT then I thought.....no by golly...the more people that know of this perhaps the fight to stop it can be initiated??,advanced??, or hopefully begin the beginning of the end.
The story begins in Indiana. And in some places here I will quote. "Vehicles and Machinerary are among Indiana's better-known export but some residents have added a decidedly less innocuous 'product':live coyotes and foxes. As part of a grisley new 'LIVE MARKET', the animals are trapped, kept alive in cramped cages in backyards and barns across the state and sold for more than $100. each to a broker. The broker than loads them into small cages in the backs of trucks---sometimes in such high volume that they suffocate during the harrowing journey out of state. Those who survive are sold for use in a perverse form of staged animal fighting called PENNING...! "

No quote here...OF COURSE!!!..."Indiana has essentially 'OUTLAWED' penning, but paradoxically, allows shipment to Virginia, Georgia and "(quote) ... No quote...GOOD OLD WISCONSIN.!!! "and OTHER states with an appetite for Indiana's wildlife, thanks in large part to penning." (quote) Shouldn't we be proud,,,Not even being kinda named in a sub-heading with the 'other state' catagory...Top 3!!! WOW, Shouldn't we be proud. "Inside the pens, the coyotes and foxes are individually released into enclosed areas where they are chased by packs of dogs." (quote) They go on to say{and we must be fair here} some enclosures may be several hundred acres...(May I accentuate the word 'SOME'...and by the way thats me not HSUS...cause nobodies going to tell this old country girl thats the size of all of the facilities or happen-chanch ...I wasn't born yesterday and I've been around the block more than twice in my life...) "Although ENTHUSIASTS portray penning as a form of hunting, it is nothing more than an amalgan of captive hunting and animal fighting---two of the most egregious forms of CRUELTY. Indiana's wildlife belongs to the people of Indiana, not to residents of other states who engage in a grotesque blood sport." (enquote)
WHAT AM I ... OLD-FASHIONED....BEHIND THE TIMES???...JUST OLD AND OUT-OF-IT???? GOOD GRIEF!!! Pit Bull Dogs fights, puppy mills, cock fighting, and the Lord only knows what else is going on that is such a blemish on this beautiful state.
What makes me REALLY sad is ... I can count on 1 {one} hand the number of fox I have seen in the last 15/20 years. One hears the coyote, I've actually seen 2 in that same amount of time.
Well, one more time I've vented and if anyone reads this, that didn't know and it bothers you to..then ... God bless you. People just aren't suppose to be like this...especially now...Lord have mercy.....We do live in the 21st century or..... {Lord help us}...is that part of the problem??? .

And...:FYI...I grew up in a family that hunted. I was raised on wild game. I've hunted, my Dad raised his family for a time on pelts from hunting and trapping and that's got NOTHING to do with this. This is STRICTLY from the perspective of fair-play, respect and SPORTSMANSHIP.

Wisconsin Penning and what you can do about it...

Hard to believe so I did a search and found: Cruel Wildlife Penning Exposed

The page, dated November 28, 2007, leads off with:
Cruel Wildlife Penning Exposed

The Humane Society of the United States is calling for a ban on the horrific practice of penning wildlife for dog training.

The article concludes with this list (I left Wisconsin DNR there for obvious reasons, and the rest of the list so we can see where this is being practiced):

What You Can Do
If you live in one of these states, please ask your state wildlife agency to stop penned wildlife fighting.
Alabama Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources: (334) 242-3486
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission: (501) 223-6300
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission: (850) 488-4676
Georgia DNR: (404) 656-3500
Indiana DNR: (317) 232-4080 (division of fish and wildlife)
Iowa DNR: (515) 281-5918
Kentucky Dept. of Game & Wildlife Resources: (800) 858-1549
North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission: (919) 707-0010
Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation: (405) 521 3851
South Carolina DNR: (803) 734-3886 (wildlife)
Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries: (804) 367-1000
Wisconsin DNR: 608-266-2621

Re: Penning; Wisc's Latest Participation ? Phoopah???

Small animals getting torn limb from limb is standard training for fighting dogs. Cats and smaller dogs are often used as bait for illegal dogfighting rings. This is why I am so against "free to a good home" ads. Stray and free pets are easily picked up for bait.
