.. no one ever dreamed we'd have the capability of a cell phone when I was young and we could wait til we got home to call someone.
|
I remember it was so cool when they came out with the long cords so you could actually walk around the room instead of standing right next to the phone.

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
Can anyone recall having to use smoke signals and jungle drums? j/k
Not to get off-topic but when I lived in Ithaca, NY as a kid, we had a "party line" and had to ring the operator to get a line. True!
I've seen it all.. from dial, to pulse to tone.. but let's get back on topic
If you "were" going to text while driving, being able to text one handed is a plus. My old cell was a Kyocera that opened to a full QWERTY keyboard.. you could text from the front without opening the phone but that keyboard was a joy to text on! Now alot of phones have that feature.

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
In other news, texting while driving the train may have been to blame for this horrific crash:
LOS ANGELES — The engineer of the Metrolink train that crashed in a head-on collision near Chatsworth, California, was chatting with a teenager moments before the crash, according to the Orange County Register.
Nick Williams, a teenage train enthusiast, told CBS2 in Los Angeles he exchanged three text messages with engineer Robert Sanchez Friday afternoon. Williams, who considered Sanchez a “mentor,” received the last text at 4:22 p.m., one minute before the train wreck, according to the ocregister.com report. Williams' claims have not been confirmed.
Sanchez, who was killed in the crash, said in his final text he would be meeting up with another passenger train later that day.

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
Check this out. I watched it and was amazed. I also wanted to not only tell the girl off but someone needs to wake the Mom up too. She is just waiting for a call that says her daughter has been in a bad accident while texting...
If this were my daughter the phone would be in the trash..no...the toilet! a long with her car keys.

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
I confess.. I actually am sickened by the prevalence of cell phones and how they have affected our lives Of course, they're good in an emergency but how many times a day do you see someone texting while you're out or even with friends. I have been with friends who text so frequently while we're out, it's actually ruined the evening! Down with cell phones!

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
I will say that my cell phone is great for staying close and on top of what my kids are doing. With every one here in so many activities it has proven to be totally helpful many times over. I can't imagine not having my cell now that I'm use to having one all the time.
But texting? Had it for just a short while and did not like it. If I have something to say, I will call.
Also, living in a busy city such as we do (Kenosha), I shutter to think of someone texting while driving in our traffic. Especially a new driver.

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
Yeah, I never understood texting if you didn't have to.. why not just call if you both have a cell?

Me too! I hate it when I see people constantly checking their phone when with friends. That just seems rude to ignore others in your group. I've seen it in restaurants and I've seen it in the checkout line when a person ignores the cashier. That's just rude. People seem to forget their manners with a cell phone.

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
Interesting, informative, and emotional video to watch on how texting and driving don't mix.

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
I understand texting, not while driving, but texting is great in certain situations... no it wasnt created for kids to text in school and it doesnt run up the phone bill if you add it to your plan for a few bucks...
example: In noisy enviroments such as when i been out at the club, restaurant, carnival etc... & trying to find my friends, when it's too noisy to call & actually be able to hear them, i will text & find their location.
Or my favorite reason to text... sending someone a warning (ie: beware our boss is right around the corner from you, careful what u say about her lol)... it's come in handy on the job several times

Re: Wisconsin Driving Laws: Text messaging ban
I also admit it's handy when relaying instructions, an address, or directions somewhere that might be hard to relay vocaly.
