How do you establish value on a 30 yr old car?
We're considering selling off a couple of our "extra" cars but have no clue how to establish even an asking price. Where do you start?
We've searched online for similar ones, but find very few... so it's an oddball. 1976 mercury cougar, 400/180 hp, all matching #s been in the same family since new. "S" group package, air, under 84.000 miles.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: How do you establish value on a 30 yr old car?
Tinkdedoodle, You can go to N.A.D.A. Official Used Car Guide Company they have a classic car section, also Hemming motor news is a good source if you can find a copy, this is a bi weelky or monthly publication I can't rember but It is probably the largest cars and parts for sale type publication there is, usualy about 3-4 inchs thick. The 76 Cougar is a nice car, What else do you have? Another web site to look at is countryclassicars.com - classic cars

Thanks! I've posted the Cougar and a 98 Taurus here. We need to get some of these vehicles out of the yard... Too many lawn ornaments!

Re: How do you establish value on a 30 yr old car?
Thanks!
I've had only one inquiry about the Cougar so far... am hoping the lack of pricing isn't putting people off. According to the NADA site there's quite a wide range on the cars value... It helped, but sure didn't give a lot of info.
I realize it's very much a "specific interest" type of item so hopefully in time.

Re: How do you establish value on a 30 yr old car?
I had a 75 cougar and it was a very sweet ride, back in 80 or so... I totally redid the body as it was not much to do but paint... I couldn't get $1,000 out of it...
One day a guy knocked on the door and said he wanted it and gave me $700 down and would be back in two weeks to pay it off...
I wrote up the contract and found no added bucks two weeks later or even a call...
About 8 or 9 months later a knock on the door and there he stood saying he changed his mind and wanted his money back...
I was so astounded he had the balls to come back for the money he thought was due back... I told him I stripped it down and turned it into a stock car and was doing very well with it on the track...
He blew a gasket and said he was suing me and will see me in court...
he did and lost big time...
Yes I got side tracked of the post but one issue I wanted to say is I sure miss that car...
