It's sad but true. Majority of the time it is the owner that mistreated the animal, had the wrong intentions when raising the dog, etc. that gives this breed many wrong and bad habits. Because of this as stated in many articles, pit bulls can and do bite. Yes, just like other dogs, but not really. Unlike other dogs the jaws of a pit bull is what makes them a very dangerous dog to encounter when the dog has been raised or breed incorrectly. This dog can not only bite but can tear a small child apart and kill. Yes, many breeds are very dangerous when and if they attack, but the pit has the jaws of death. This is why so many people are scared of this breed in their neighborhoods.
The Pit bull has a bad reputation because of the horrendous attacks that can occur. Many times these attacks are provoked, many not. Many times the dog is thought of as a pit bull but is not, agreed. But for the attacks from this type of dog that has been real, many times the attacked child/adult is left scarred for life. The jaws of a pit is certainly not something I want to encounter.
I understand many people have pits that are just huge babies and I feel for those that love their pets knowing that many people are grouping together to ban this breed from their cities. But until all the wrong type of people are totally banned from using these dogs for bad reasons and more training on how to raise the dogs the correct way happen you will continue to hear people want to vote to remove this breed of dog.
It is sad for those that are responsible with their pits. But I feel very sad when I hear about a child being torn up by a neighbor's pit bull because the police could not get the dog to release the child. I shutter for everyone concerned including the dog.
I will never forget a TV talk show that came on one afternoon where a pit bull was slieeping on the floor in the home. A 2 year old toddler walked through and tripped over the dog's leg. The dog came up out of a sound sleep and tore the child's face off. Please keep in mind that this dog was brought into the family as a family puppy and raised everyday with the child. The dog and the child always played together.
The boy was on the show after years of numerous surgeries trying to repair his torn off face. He still had years of surgeries to look forward to. He almost died several times in the beginning. His life changed forever because he tripped over the leg of his beloved pit bull family pet.
Yes, any dog could have been startled out of a sound sleep and attack. Yes, many pets have done this. But because of the jaws of a pit bull they tore with such strengh and force on this child's face that the family could not stop the dog.
I know so many people love their pits and swear the dogs never showed aggression and are huge family 'babies'. What is sad is the fact that this family also said the same thing. They said the dog never showed one ounce of meaness towards anyone in the past. It simply 'snapped'.
I sat in shock at the pictures they showed. The whole show was very distrubing and I don't care how many people yell at me for saing this...from that day on I never let my children go to anyone's house with a pit bull.

I don't let my child play at someone's house with a loaded gun in it...why would I let them play at a house with a pit bull? Or any large dog as far as that goes.
Just my thoughts on this. My heart goes out to both sides but my mind tells me to always be careful.
