She sculpts new life to Oak Creek woman's trees
This is the story of how two 50-year-old trees lived their life, died and now are reborn on wings of eagles.
Delores Riemer was not quite ready to completely let go of a pair of Ponderosa pines, which died last summer, she and her late husband had transplanted as saplings in their front lawn at 300 Estates Place.
"I just couldn't let someone cut down those trees down and use them for firewood," Riemer said. "I just would not let that happen."
She didn't. Instead, Riemer found a chain saw artist who intricately turned the two dead pines into sculptures - one a proud eagle perched over a rolled-up American flag and the other an adult eagle with an offspring, each looking in opposite directions.

Municipal judge finds 19-year-old guilty on disorderly conduct

A horned owl stolen from a Wisconsin wildlife rehabilitation center has been found after a month, dehydrated, thin and tired but otherwise healthy, officials said.
I can't imagine doing a polar plunge at any age let along 82! I'm impressed.
Wisconsin man, 82, calls 60th polar bear plunge his last
An 82-year-old Wisconsin man made his 60th straight New Year's Day polar bear plunge into the icy waters of Lake Michigan on Sunday, but said it would be his last.
But sorry, I can't think of chainsaw art without thinking of this:

I've gone swimming in 38 degree water.. cold enough for me.
Water that cold causes things to recede into the human body, never to be seen again..

Don't touch the owl please (my apt manager is terrified of owls for some reason)

Antonneau pedals to win in USA Cycling Cyclo-cross championships
Kaitlin Antonneau, the reigning Div. 1 collegiate cycling champion, proved equally fast in the mud on Saturday.
A Racine native and sophomore at Marian University, Antonneau took advantage of a bobble by her teammate, Coryn Rivera, late on the first of four laps and stayed out front to win the collegiate race in the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships.

Southeast Wisconsin saw significant drop in heating costs over last two months
People around southeast Wisconsin have seen a big drop in heating costs this winter.
A typical customer paid $173 in November and December, that's a 22% drop from last year and the lowest since 2001.
I'm sure many of us can relate to this next story:

For some adults, August means one thing: An excuse to buy school supplies
August 19, 2007
Julie Witczak had done her best to stay out of temptation's reach this summer. The Deerfield teacher has been the waterfront director for a YMCA camp in northern Wisconsin, far from the colorful displays of highlighters and spiral notebooks that have sprouted like dandelions in stores for more than a month now.
But when she and a friend had a day off, they found themselves in the aisles of a huge discount store in a nearby town, and it was there that Witczak broke a vow to herself not to score any school supplies until Aug. 1.
"I tried to get through the aisles, but I couldn't resist seeing the Crayola markers for only 89 cents a box," she said. "I had to have some. I broke my promise. I gave in before August."
She's not alone. As sales of school supplies keep climbing a lot faster than the U.S. population, it's pretty obvious that parents and other adults can't resist building their own stash of Flairs, scissors and glue sticks.
I don't know why, but I have a difficult time going through the office supply aisle without loading a package of pens, or some printer paper, perhaps a writing pad portfolio, into my cart. I probably have enough office (school) supplies laying around to last the rest of my life.
What a fascinating story! This is a good one to forward on to George Noory at Coast to Coast AM. He and some of his guests live for this sort of thing. Home - Coast to Coast AM

"The Polar Bear Plunge" is a great way to start off the new year. I've been doing it at the Sheboygan Harbor every New Years Day morning since 2000. It's healthy, and I don't feel cold for the rest of the year.

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

Strange Jeffrey Dahmer walking tour begins in Milwaukee. Is it too soon for such a thing or is it just too weird? $30 for a tour seems a bit steep. I can certainly understand why people are upset by the tour. This is in poor taste IMO.
There's stuff like this all over the country. I bet to most it doesn't appear too soon but here in WI it doesn't seem too old of a story. It's been 20yrs.

I'm thinking if it was my family member that was a victim, I'd be steaming mad. Whoever started this tour should be sensitive to the families of the victims.
I don't think I'd be interested in such a tour myself. I do enjoy reading true crime books, but seeing the actual places a murderer visited is too creepy.
