Tom Snyder dies.

Tom Snyder was born in Milwaukee and began his broadcasting career as a local radio reporter before moving into television and anchoring local newscasts in Philadelphia.


Snyder, who quit smoking about five years previously, said the illness was diagnosed after he went to a doctor complaining of night sweats, abdominal bloating and a general lack of stamina.

Yup, Akroyd spoofed him.
Snyder was the real deal. He's one of the only journalists that could stand upfront and laugh at himself. He sucked those Camel Straight cigarettes every night on his late late night talk television show, before it became a felony, and HE LIKED IT!
Tom had nice hair, and a quick wit.
This is sad news.

Between 1973 and 1982, Snyder conducted a raft of memorable interviews with Tomorrow guests including Charles Manson, Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and KISS.

U2 made its first American appearance on Tomorrow in 1981, while John Lennon gave Snyder his last televised interview in 1975.
