Wisconsin Proclaims Itself Home Of The Hamburger
MADISON, Wis. Wisconsin state lawmakers laid claim Wednesday to being the home of the hamburger.
The Assembly served up a proclamation stating that Charles "Hamburger Charlie" Nagreen of Seymour, Wis. started calling ground beef patties in a bun hamburgers in 1885. Seymour is about 10 miles west of Green Bay, the state’s oldest city.

If anyone get's to the Menasha area, you should check out the famous (or is that infamous?) Mihm's Charcoal Grill. The only place that I've ever got a butterburger that leaked through the wax paper wrapping. Greasy, yea. Fattening, defanatly. Deadly, very possible, but always an interesting burger!

When I was much younger, Mihm's Charcoal Grill was the place to get a great steak sandwich and a rite of passage because when you were old enough to go to the bars you would stop at Mihm's Charcoal Grill after the bars closed and had a steak sandwich and cup of coffee. I have been back there a few times but in my mind it is not as good as it was when they were in the old place across the street from where they are now.
The was another great place for a burger in Menasha "Dave's burger shanty" They served a burger in a semil roll that was great!!! Dave passed away a very long time ago and his wife kept the place going for awhile but all that is gone now. When I was very young Dave's had a special 7 hambergers for $1.00 !!!!. As a young man that was a challange to pound down 7 hambergers and a chololate malt, yum yum!! Back then french fries were not that popular and were not mandatory with your burger.
The "Hungry Bull" in Menasha was good at one time but I am not sure if it is even open anymore.
And there was a great place on South Commercial street (On the Island) in Neenah but I forgot the name. They had great steak sandwiches and served the bar closers as well.
Mr Cinders in Appleton is good, as well as Cheyanne in Appleton and Basils.

The place to go when I was a kid for the best hamburgers was a placed in town (Zion, Illinois) called Zippy's. Totally loved to eat there, and it was a great place to hang out at when we were teens. The owners decided to retire and move to Florida and the place was torn down and Burger King was built.
Another place everyone hung out at was the Dog n Suds. They had good burgers to but my Mom wouldn't let us go there, said it had the 'rough' kids there. lol Later good friends of mine turned the old Dog & Suds into a great place to eat burgers, pizza, etc. The place was called Brudders. Really miss the food they had there. Hate when a favorite place closes down. Such a loss. Chris moved on to other things and now is the founder/admin of goflo.com in Zion and doing great. But I still miss his burgers and such. lol
Jack in the Box was big back then in Zion too. Loved to go there for burgers. I think a few Jack in the Box is still open out West in Washington and places maybe down south but none around here that I know of. Anyone have a Jack in the Box? I would get a kick out of going there again.

I remember Dog 'n' Suds. We had one near our house back in the old days. I liked the root beer shakes and ice cream. I don't remember the burger being that different, but yummy shakes and good fries, too.
Bigg's Bar & Grill in Watertown has some good burgers. Lot's of good burgers out there and you probably won't find them at a fast food place. I find the best ones at the brewpub restaurants or at restaurants where they wait on you at the table.
I could go for a good black & blue burger right now. Blue cheese and bacon is great together on a burger and it's about the only way I eat blue cheese. Mushroom and swiss burgers are good, too. Bacon cheeseburgers with bbq sauce also good. I think it's almost lunch time here.

Guess I remember them being good since we were kids and didn't get any fast food very often. Now as adults we of course have much better 'taste'.

I remember going to a hamburger place in Missouri and it was called Lotta Burger. You could order 1, 2 or 3 patties. I ordered 2 since I thought it was the size of a regular double cheeseburger. I should have ordered one patty, because they were huge. They didn't lie; they gave you a lot of burger.
I gotta say: burgers are one of my favorite foods (tho I actually prefer homemade burgers).. love all the different ways they can be fixed and all the toppings available for them.
Do you dress yours up or are you a salt 'em and eat 'em kind of burger eater?

(I like mine dressed with lots of mayo)
I used to like my burgers with cheese and sauces and everything else.
My absolute favorite is at home pan fried in a cast iron pan with a slightly crunchy outside and cooked all the way through. Then put it between two pieces of toast. ketchup and mustard pepper and a pickle no salt because the pickle has plenty of salt. Cut the toast on an angle.
num num
I also bet if we had a burger cook-off, MrKhay would make the best burger!!

Burgers, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Best way to eat it. Otherwise I just order it plain with pickles.
Home made is great, especially on the grill. yum.
And I'm with you John, give me two pieces of toast, or even just bread. I much prefer that to a bun. Actually I love Patty Melts without onions because it comes on bread.

At home I eat it with ketchup and pickles on. When we go out I like the variety of toppings places have for burgers so that's what I usually go with.
They have good burgers at Water Street Brewery in Delafield. I also like to get their homemade chips. The best chips I've had so far. There is another Water Street Brewery in Milwaukee.
I have to have onions on my burger, salt, mayo, lettuce, and tomato.. sometimes cheese but not as often as when I was younger. I like a bun, but prefer it toasted.
