by the way, saw gas as high as $3.29 for the normal grade stuff that I use!

Wonder what it will be a month from now...
By Kenosha I saw 3.29 this weekend also. When we filled up though it was still $3.25. Wow, I say still $3.25 like it was a good thing. Just 2 weeks ago $3.25 was terrible to see, now I'm glad I found 3.25 and not 3.29 or more.

I shutter to think what it will be a month from now!

At the rate gas has gone up we may just abandon camping beyond 2007.
My wages are not keeping up with the icreases we are seeing and our insurance/medical cost have risen cosiderably as well.
I wish I could ride my bike like I did with my last job but this place has no showers, I would not want to even be close to myself.
wheeeeeew!!!!!!! ops: ops: ops: ops: ops:

where our oil comes from

I hate to burst anyone's bubble here, but I noticed a few posts talking about the middle east and africa when it comes to oil. As of 2005 (the newest info I can find) the US's oil comes from the following sources:

Canada-18%
Mexico-15%
Saudi Arabia-12%
Nigeria-12%
Venezuela-10%
Angola-6%
Iraq-5%

Also seven other countries provide 3% or less each. If you want to see the graphic, go to http://www.gravmag.com/oil.html#imports.

What I hear is that refinery in Indiana is the only one that makes the blend that we in SE Wisconsin are required to use. Wait until the supply chain catches up!

One quick OT note here. It kinda makes the liberals look silly saying the war in Iraq was over oil, doesn't it?

it does not make a difference on the origin of crude oil as long as i am paid based on 1988 wages, i can not afford to buy much of it, just enough to to get to work and back so i can pay my bills.
How is that for the American Dream?

Well, quoting Dylan is nice and all but I just have two things to say.

1- Adjusting for inflation, we are paying less for gas than people were in 1981.

2- If you are still at 1988 wages, you might want to get a different job.

And what kind of salary were you pulling down at the age of 11?
10 20 bucks a week?
try filling your car with those wages!!!

Change jobs ! wow what a novel idea!!!
Have you ever heard of age discrimination?
I would hardly think a 30 year old has even a vauge idea of age discrimination.

But have a nice day

Gas station owner told to raise prices

A service station that offered discounted gas to senior citizens and people supporting youth sports has been ordered by the state to raise its prices.

Yea, kinda sucks. To see my thoughts, read the most recent entry of my blog (see sig). The really crappy thing about that is it would have been legal if he was price matching a competator.

oh, and to j10asen, the only thing that made any sense in your last post was about age discrimination. Although leagally it's not supposed to happen, it does.

And where do you get off saying that I have no concept of age discrimination? Do you think that I'm the oldest person in my family? It took me a while to try to understand where you were going with your post until I realized that everything bad that's happened to you is someone else's fault. Low paying job-age discrimination, High gas prices-oil companies, etc.

You don't have to worry about this "smart kid" anymore. I think I'll find a thread where the conversations make more sense.

Vicious Cycle Raises Door County Gas Prices

Quote:
One area of Northeast Wisconsin is hit particularly hard by rising gas prices. Door County gas owners say a vicious cycle makes the cost of fuel there so high.

A gallon of regular unleaded gas is now going for $3.40 in Sturgeon Bay

... the reason prices are up to 15 cents higher here than in Green Bay or the Fox Valley is high gas prices. The tanker trucks that deliver the gas run on gas themselves. Because the price of gas is so high everywhere, it costs even more to truck the fuel up to Door County.

"Washington Island have it even worse...two gas stations there are selling regular unleaded for $3.49 a gallon.

http://www.wbay.com/Global/story.asp?S=6520420

I believe its now officially time to get out our bikes or Carpool.

Last Saturday evening the gas went up from 3.29 to 3.49 just taking time to eat dinner and drive across the city.

Right now it's holding at 3.44 everywhere here.

I was listening to a news story on the radio this morning and they were talking about if everyone would just consume ONE GALLON of gas a week there would be a drop in the gas prices.

ONE GALLON, but EVERYONE had to do it each week.

Since not everyone would do it than if we could get as many as possible to save a few gallons each week there would be a difference.

What is a gallon of gas? If you figured out a plan of action such as parking your car and walking to the corner store if you need something. Organize all your trips to the bank, stores, etc in a way that you can do it all in one day and not have to drive back and forth all week, or check out the city buses this summer and ride them over to the store and back a few times extra. Instead of going for a Sunday Drive...walk! Hikes are fun. Get out the bike this summer and remember how much fun you had riding it when you were a kid. Heck, they say Americans need more exercise..so let's leave the car at home and walk and save money.

Everyone needs to take a stand. I hear EVERYONE complain but the question is: WHY ARE WE ACCEPTING THIS? We need to fight back!

Refuse to purchase as much gas as usual and EVERYONE DO THIS. See what happens then.

Brain, you're right. All the "stick it to 'em" games won't work. The supply and price is manipulated anyway. Future pricing and greed are the real culprits.

But like I've said before, the record rate of SUV sales made the board members sit back and say "they don't care about the price of gas if they keep buying gas guzzling SUV's". That's what started the ball rolling. It's a big ball that's hard to stop now.

Well if everyone stopped buying gas on the same day, won't work.

If everyone buys less gas..won't affect the price.

If everyone quits buying gas hog cars/trucks...won't help.

If we all started riding bikes...won't phase them.

What is the solution then?

It may have been said but I think I lost it somewhere between using less gas, and riding bikes...

Develop a different fuel...not food. Burning food crops is a stupid idea. I bet Bush thought of it.

Here's the reality of biking, for folks like me at least. I live 17 miles from work. My truck (I need a truck) gets 17 mpg. So I use 2 gallons of gas every day. Today it costs me about $6.50 a day. A year or so ago, it cost about $5.00 to $5.50 a day. So it's costing me about a buck a day more to go to work.

If I ride a bike, I'll have to get up earlier to leave earlier to get back home later from a job that already takes 12 hours of my day.

I'll pay the extra buck. And if I'm lucky, I'll contribute more to the global warming and have milder winters and not spend as much on heating. Kind of washes out don't you think?

BTW, y'all gonna ride your bike in Janurary?

Mark

NBC26 Investigation: Pain at the Pump

Local gas stations busted for shorting you at the pump.
PERS Reporter: Aaron Keller
http://www.nbc26.com/news/local/7659047.html

Weights and Measures agencies from around Northeastern Wisconsin have provided NBC26 with this list of gas stations that under-dispensed fuel to customers. These gasoline stations charged customers for one gallon of gas, even though the pump dispensed slightly less than one gallon.

The stations listed below were neither accused nor convicted of any illegal violation of weights and measures laws. The State ordered each station to tune up its gasoline pumps or face further disciplinary action.

We have made every attempt to make this list as complete as possible. We will keep the list updated as additional information comes in to the NBC26 newsroom.
