I've been driving my daughter's hyundai around town instead of the van and we put in around 15.00 each time. Gets us going for a few days before we have to scrape up some more. Crazy.
What's crazy is remembering my mom saying we would stop going anywhere when gas passed $1.. I bet she wasn't the only one yet people still grin and bear it.
Gas around here is $3.47 - $3.49 for unleaded and Diesel is $4.22. Can you believe a .75˘ price difference between unleaded and diesel. Anyone remember when Diesel prices were cheaper than unleaded.

Diesels. Lotsa power out of a small machine.
I remember when my father traded his big Pontiac for a Buick Diesel. I also recall how tict he was when my sister filled the fuel tank with unleaded. Sparks and smoke.
As a country, we must get off of our dependance on foreign oil. Wind and solar will never replace fossil fuels. The power just isn't in solar and wind.
DRILL BABY, DRILL! or get hot on the cold fusion project.

Not enough power in ethanol either. Costs more money to produce ethanol than it saves at the pump. Producing ethanol from corn drives up the cost of food, and cattle feed...causing the price of food to go even higher. Ethanol is difficult to transport, difficult to store, and just doesn't have the nut to produce the power that fossil fuels do. Ethanol also costs more to produce than any difference you see at the pump. This is why the government subsidizes the production of ethanol.
Use electricity?
OK, but you still have to use fossil fuel to produce the electricity. Otherwise, as I stated earlier, get the 'cold fusion' ball rolling.
Bio-Mass generators are helpful, as long as you are in close proximity to a land fill.
Propane (LP gas) is quite a bargain. Many fleet operators use propane to fuel their vehicles. Propane costs a pittance to produce compares to ethanol.
My buddy and I were just talking about that yesterday and he remarked how he'd like to see it drop below $3.. I said it was pretty bad when we look forward to it dropping below $3 when we can remember it being below $2.

My daughter and I went past the gas station near our house just yesterday and was shocked when we noticed the price dropped below 3.00!! It read: 2.99!!!
She remarked that she was surprised it was lower then it's been for quite a while when there is a holiday coming up. Usually you see the price go up before a holiday. I told her to be quiet or someone will hear and it will go up. lol
Well someone, somewhere must have heard her since we went by today less then 24 hours later and the price jumped up to 3.35!!!!! A .36 cent increase in less than a day.
Now that is just insane! And it has to be her fault!! lol Next time I will warn her not to speak the words out loud.
Haven't hit $4.00 yet here, but that will be soon. Topped off the gas tanks today.
I went to the cheapest place in town today. I paid $3.89. Everyone else was at $3.93.
My poor husband has to use his car for work and they don't get paid for mileage to their first stop and not from the last stop to home. So where did they send him the other day first thing? 56 miles away, almost to Saukville (past Mequon). He needs to have a little chit chat with the boss as to why one of the Milwaukee people aren't getting those stops. Whoever plans their routes doesn't know what they are doing. The original plan was to have my husband work this area since he is the only one that lives around here.
Usually we are higher than surrounding areas. It is unusual for us to be lower...for now.
I guess there won't be as many road adventures this year. I always look forward to all our road trips to go hiking, camping, car shows, shopping and exploring other towns. Now we will think twice about where we go. This means restaurants and stores might not get business from us that they would have.
I'm not sure what this will do for vacation this year, but I'm sure it will the same as a lot of other folks out there. Closer to home or not at all or even shorter trips. A lot of businesses depend on those traveling if the businesses want to make a profit.

The price for Premium was at $3.90 in Blue River on Saturday...that's the cheapest I've seen it around this area. Fuel is one of the biggest expenses in our business! We spent over $8,000 for gas and diesel fuel last year and I'm sure it will be lots more than that this year if the prices keep going up like they are!
I don't need premium gas. My car actually runs worse on it since a lot of "newer" cars are designed to run on regular. I guess my car is considered newer at 12 years old.
Premium just has a slightly higher flash point. You wouldn't be able to notice a difference. Some sports cars still need premium. It's only purpose is to resist detonation.
