Franks Diner History 101
There was some real excitement in downtown Kenosha on that day in 1926 when six horses pulled the Diner to the spot where it stands today. The structure was built by the Jerry O'Mahoney firm in New Jersey and shipped to Kenosha on a railroad flat car. Anthony Franks, who first learned of the unique restaurant opportunity through a magazine article, paid $7,500 plus $325 in shipping charges to launch his business. The Franks family operated Franks Diner continuously until 2001. It is now owned and operated by Lynn Groleau and Chris Schwartz. The Diner is quite an institution in Kenosha. In the past years, many performers from the Kenosha Theatre or other local halls dined here, including The Three Stooges, Bela Lugosi, Duke Ellington, Liberace and members of the Lawrence Welk orchestra. Recent celebrity sightings include Ron Magers (Chicago news anchor), Lonnie Quinn (All My Children, Santa Barbara, current Chief Meteorologist for CBS in New York), Michael Schumacher (Author of Crossroads: The Life and Music of Eric Clapton, Dharma Lion: A Critical Biography of Allen Ginsberg, Mighty Fitz: The Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald), a rude member of The Monkees (rhymes with “dork”), and an unconfirmed sighting of the Empire Carpet Guy. Did someone say Guy? That would be our most recent celebrity from the Food Network: Guy Feiri (pronounced 'fee-eddie'). There have been few changes in the appearance of the Diner since 1926. The dining room was added in 1935 and a larger kitchen in the mid 1940s.
Just down the road from me....... Hwy F & B ~ a little balloon club gets together every Sat and Sun when where is nice and they go for rides. I've got so many great pics of their flights
At the Madison Sports Show a few years ago they had someone there giving rides....it was more like float up and then come down...but it was pretty neat.

I have a huge fear of heights but for some reason hot air balloons fascinate me. But way to much $$ for me to get a ride. lol
But I think if I ever do get a chance I would want my first ride that just goes up and comes back down and tied to the ground! lol Maybe after that I could get more adventourous.
There is also a club west of Kenosha by Lake Geneva that meets and every once in awhile you can see them up in the air if you are driving by at the time they are flying. . I think this summer I will try to find out when they meet and take some pictures of them. It's an awesome site to see a group of balloons up in the air.

The Madison show it was go up come down and $10.00 for something like 15 or 20 min. It was worth it for me to do. And we didn't go to high. We were connected by ropes anchored to the ground. But high enough to see a lot of surroundings.

 I know exactly how you feel. I have no idea what makes me wish I could go in a balloon. I would not last 2 minutes!
I can't even go up in an overlook at a state park. By the time I climb the stairs and get to the top I feel the whole thing is at a slant and I'm going to go right over the edge! Doesn't help that there is a nice thick wood railing I still feel that way.
We will let you pass on the balloon ride then Keith! lol
During Burger Fest in Seymour, Home of the Hamburger, which is held the first weekend in August every year. They also hold a Hot air balloon rally. Along with competitions, the "Glow" is held on Friday and Saturday nights, and it's one of the highlights of the weekend, with about 20-30 balloons participating!
They give hamburgers away along the parade route, held on Saturday!

I visited Lapham Peak for the first time last summer (2006). I had a great time in the park. Lots of things to do from hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing....
The tower was great. My legs hurt the next day. But I'm glad I'm climbed it.
You do need a State park sticker to enter the park. I just purchased mine at the gate.
It is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.spring, summer, and fall and from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the winter
This is just one of thousands of trees on a trial I hiked that day
Good Coon house tree!!
Lapham Peak is 25 miles west of Milwaukee and 1 mile south of Interstate 94 near Delafield, on County Highway C

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

Kettle Morain area is very nice. I've been in both the South and North areas. I actually think I like the North section better but like I said either ones are nice.

Big learning curve when it comes to Photoshop. Most people that aren't designers and so on, don't use more than the basics. To really learn all the parts of the program takes a lot of time, especially when they hide things all over the place. It can be fun.
I noticed that the Weird Wis. video has one of my faves that I was going to recommend. That is the Dr. Evermore sculpture garden and Forevertron near Baraboo. It's located across the road from the old Badger Ammunition plant. There are many birds and insects and all kinds of strange creatures made of any kind of scrap metal. It's the most creative metal sculptures I've ever seen. The best part is that it's free. I've been there twice and took about 175 photos between the 2 trips there.
