Farewell to a Dells Icon

I am so sad to read that The Wonder Spot in Wisconsin Dells is closing forever to make way for a road! My husband and I visited a few years ago and really liked it. The gravity tricks were entertaining, and we loved that something so "old Dells" still existed. There just aren't that many kitschy attractions left.

YIPES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope it is a safe place to drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine losing gravity when you drive your car over that spot? and if water flows uphill how will my car get gas to run? Will my car accelerate without pushing on the gas?
I hope it's not a future speen trap!!!!!!
oh my the possiblities of urban legands on that strip of roadway.
So if gravity sucks , what will happen on that spot?

I do remeber when I was very young ,my family went to place in South Dakota (Mystery spot) that I am sure is similar. It was a time when people were much more gullable than they are now, right? maybe,maybe not.

What a bummer! I had fun at this place as a kid and took my kids here as well. Sad to see it go.

What does "kitschy" mean?
I recall a similar spot at "Devil's Lake"...might have been the dells. Are/were there some "lean to's" built on the spot. I'm trying to remember if it was Wisconsin Dells, or Devil's Lake.

Kitsch is everything that I am! My very being!

Kitsch is art that is in bad taste or of poor quality. Most wouldn't call it art. It is also a term of endearment for the ugly and unusual. Think pink flamingoes, gold tinsel Christmas trees, John Waters movies and giant Bakelite jewelery. All things that own, all things that I love.

Then from one Aquifer to another, revel in your "Kitshiness", and be assured, you are not alone. Although many of our 'Kitschy' tourist attractions are disappearing, more are coming into their own. Someone is always going to come up with a larger ball of twine.
So take solace in knowing that there are others that share your taste in fine gaudery, and particulars of tasteless wonderment.
