My wife and I are avid campers and are memebrs of another message board more pertaining to camping. The big craze in camping is geocaching, many families are doing this.
Well since I do not own a GPS nor care to buy one right now I created a differnt way of exploring and sharing with others. it is called "Phocation". The ideas is to explore some area of Wisconsin and record it photographicly. In this way the area is NOT disturbed nor anything is left there or taken from there. The other thing about this is just about anyone can afford to do a phocation. All you need is a simple camera. after you take your photos have them scanned , most place can do that these days like walgreens etc. I think there are even online companies scanning for people.
If you need to know how to post a photograph , just ask me and I will explain it.
I have done this on another board but I would like to see how it will fly here.
He is the official information.
Phocation
A written description of a location that will assist the reader in the search of it's origin. It should not too obvious but just enough to incite some thought and logic along with a photograph.
The first person to report a the actual location or Phocation as I call it wins 1 point and the right to post the next Phocation.
If after 2weeks no one has sovled the phocation, the poster gets 1 point and makes a post of a new phocation. Get your camera out while youare a out and about and capture your favorite Wisconsin Phocation.
If a picture is worth a 1000 words, the a phocation is worth a 1000 miles.
When you say "report" do you mean physically show up there or just post the location here?
Great idea
Thank You, I hope everyone likes this and that there are many responses and contributors.
just post the location/identity/city whatever the poster originally requested.
Mine in the example above is seeking the name of the lake.
It is a way to get to know our state and maybe someday you may want to visit or re-visit the location(phocation)
I have to drive to Door Cty if I was going to look for it physically. Whether I can drive to the lake itself or not is moot -- I can't get to Door Cty without driving!
And anything north and east of Sturgeon Bay technically has water all the way around it...

But this part of door county can not be accessed by car or walking. But if you know about the "Quo Vadias" you would find this lake for sure

hm...
True but it is actually man made so I do not think they consider it an Island.
besides I would not be looking on the eastern side of Door county for this "Phocation"
This photocation was not taken with a digital camera but a 35mm and scanned to digital. I normally do not use a long lense as I perfer wide angle shots but in this case I used a 500mm mirror lense. This shot was taken quite a while back. I have not been to chambers Island since May of 1999. I call it my place of solitude and serenity. A place that clensed my soul and provided an escape fom the other stuff.
So look at your old photos find a phocation and go to walgreen and have it scanned, afetrall since you called it you need to post the next phocation.
Again CRONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
i want to keep this going, but i've never been a real big camera person.
so i dont really have any pictures at the moment.
i was going to just take one from the daily kenoshan gallerys, because there are a few shutterbugs who post there, but they got hacked the other night.
soooooooo. i think i need to pass the honor of the next photocation on to whoever has a couple interesting photos laying around.
hopefully ill have time to go take a few pictures in the near future.

Ok ,I will put another out here .
Name the Wisconsin State park described in this phocation.
You hear the sound of thunder
and feel it in the ground
yet no sign of lightening
anywhere to be found
it was late October
when found this Wisconsin park
we drove though winter
on a simple lark
converging water rushing
from every which way
the name of the river is not good
but describes it perfect that I can say
If I were a painter
and had one color to use
I would use sepia as my choice of hue
The town this park is by
is no Indian name
but mention a fruit
you will find the blame
Woohoo! I'll have to see what I can find for a picture.
To anyone that isn't sure of playing, I confess that I had never heard of Copper Falls State Park. I just used the clues and did a little digging online to get the answer. This is a good game for trivia buffs.
