March 12th, 2006 Crocuses in bloom!

No kidding! Spring has sprung outside in my yard!
I selected a "sheltered" spot on the east side of the house to plant these early bloomers. Because of the "warmer" location I am able to "push" the normal bloom time in my area to that of a full zone earlier. I love the fact that I typically have some perennial(s) in bloom from the middle of March until the first of November.

A sunny south side will also create a microclimate. I have heard that "snowdrops" will bloom even earlier, although I haven't tried them.

I planted some poppies last september. Shortly after a seeded the area in front of my apartment, I moved, and it was too late to do a planting at my new apartment. This saddens me, as I won't be able to enjoy the poppies, and I don't know if the ttenents at my old apartment even know what a poppy sprout looks like. I'm hoping they are'nt mistaken for weeds, and pulled.
