When I decided to begin perennial gardens, I went to the library with a stack of old postcards. When looking through the library's gardening books, often times there are numerous listings included in the back of the book for obtaining plant resources from greenhouses and nurseries around the country. I wrote to a couple dozen of these places on the postcards. Some said their plant "brochures" were only available for a fee. I simply told them I was beginning my gardening project and just about everyone sent me a complimentary gardening brochure. They helped make the winter go faster and made it easier for me to "plan the project" for that year.
There are few things that bring more pleasure than the return of perennials each year. Perennials, as opposed to annuals, bloom year after year (the word “perennial” is the Latin term for “perpetual”). Most perennials disappear during the winter and grow up again in the spring (although some perennials remain green and even bloom during the winter months). There are, in fact, so many varieties of perennials that you are sure to find the perfect design selections for your garden.
Perennials do take some patience initially as it will take a year or two before they are established and blooming in your garden. The old English adage for perennials is “First year sleeps, second year creeps, and third year leaps,” but the reward of watching your lovely perennials bloom year after year is well worth the wait.

The link takes you to one of my favorite gardening resources. Ralph has a radio program aired on a Green Bay radio station (WTAQ AM 1360), Sunday mornings at 10:00 am, until 12 noon.
If you are outside of the WTAQ broadcasting area, check with your local station, and recommend they begin airing The Garden Hotline. Hosted by Ralph Snodsmith.
You'll be glad you did!

Amber, you were sure on the mark about the Gardening by the Yard site. Paul James uses common sense solutions to our everyday gardening problems. Thank you for posting it. Lauri
I try to wake up early enough on a Sunday Morning so I can sneak in a few minutes of t.v. time. When I do I watch gardening by the yard. He gives great tips and shows what to do with a variety of problems.
Before we know it, it will be that time of year again to start working on gardens. Thought bumping this topic up may get people in the mood to really start thinking Spring!
Watch HGTv Gardening by the Yard with host Paul James
Just wondering if Gardening by the Yard with Paul James is still on T.V.? Haven't noticed it on for a long time now but then I don't usually watch T.V. in the early mornings anymore like I use to.
