Few tips
Just a couple of tips, gardening season is right around the corner,,,, ok, maybe around the corner and 2 blocks down, but anyways:
1. Rake your fingernails across a bar of soap before playing in the dirt,, keeps the grime out from under your nails. Good for those who like to work on thier own cars and other vehicles. Keeps the oily grime out.
2. Instead of using gravel, rocks or broken pottery to fill the bottom of a large planter, use styrafoam packing peanuts,, helps to retain moisture better and will lighten the load.
3. Save those old pantyhose that are full of runs. They make great ties for your staked plants,, nice and soft and will not harm the plants.
4. Get the kids involved. Mark off a corner of the garden,, 3ft 4ft square. Let them plant one tomato, on pepper, couple other veggies. They will love watching them grow over the summer, and may be a way to get them to eat a veggie they wouldn't otherwise. My 4 yr old daughter can't get enough tomatoes after helping grow the little cherrie ones last year.
A tent made from sunflowers, climbing flowers like clematis or pole beans is always fun too.
Any other tips out there? I would love to hear them and I am sure everyone else would too.
