Has anyone else noticed that their Fall Flowers are done before Fall this year?
I try to plant flowers with the Fall in mind. Spring flowers are pretty, summer ones are nice, but nothing compares to the beautiful flowers in the fall.
The only problem I noticed here is most of the flowers are done already for the season.Marigolds have gone to seed. Black-eye Susan's been done for awhile etc. etc.
Is this a clue we will be seeing an early Winter? Does this have something to do with the lack of Bees? What gives?
As with every year, some flowers do well, others start looking crappy. I can never make them all happy at once. My Black-eye Susans are still going, but I have the large flowered kind, not the smaller ones.
I wish someone could tell me why my Spiderworts go to crap late in the summer, then start making a comeback in the fall. Happens every year. Same with my Hybiscus, which look good right when they start blooming and then soon get yellow leaves or wilt. Doesn't seem to matter if it's a dry August or a wet one. Some flowers just can't be happy in my yard.
One thing that I can count on doing well in my yard and requires no care are the weeds.
One thing I can count on each year is my wild dark purple morning glories. They will sprout up everywhere. Right now they made it from the back to the front flower beds. lol They will grow and produce pretty flowers every year.
But the flowers I plant each year such as marigolds that I count on for the fall really went down early. Also my Black Eye Susans are the larger size and always stick around until the Fall..nope not this year.
Well just wondered if anyone knew it means an early winter.
The hummers were still on my feeder yesterday, so that's a good sign. Some years they are gone by now. It won't be long, they seem to be the first to head south.
Well, guess its' not just me. I went passed a couple of parks that have flower gardens in our city and the flowers weren't looking to good. I usually take pics this time of year at these gardens. Looks like I will be checking out other places this year. Maybe it's the rain and cooler weather we have had this Fall?

How's your flowers doing?
The pigs ate the flowers! But I did notice the leaves changing colors. I wished I'd of had my camera with me yesterday. I drove past the most beautiful fall colored tree...and then that reminded me how close winter is.
I heat with LP...I'm afraid to see my heating bills this year

The reason why I love the fall so much is the beauty that surrounds it all. It's my favorite time of year to take pictures.
I've heard they're forecasting an early (and hard) winter nationwide, with the northeast and some portions of the midwest being hardest hit. I'm predicting ice storms and lots of work for the snow plows.
I'm predicting Wisconsin is going to get snow also....
I can tell it's going to be another hard winter by how much food I'm still putting out for the coons. I'm still going thru apox 100# of dog/cat food a day. They are fattening up so they can survive the long hard winter when it's impossible to find food.

I noticed the squirrel's tails are not as full as in other years. This leads me to believe that we are in for a mild winter.
