Hey Folks,
It's time to get those poppy seeds out and scatter them around your flower beds for a beautiful display in the spring. Poppies are considered wildflowers, so they grow easily and are a breeze to maintain. A light sprinkling over your flower bed should do the trick. The seeds need not be inserted into the soil. The autumn is the best time to plant the flowers, even winter, if your region has a mild winter climate.
As the seedlings appear, they may need to be thinned out, about 4-10 inches should do. Poppy Flowers enjoy alot of sun, but shade is tolerant.
The blossoms last only a short time, but they are absolutely beautiful, and have been enjoyed by various cultures over thousands of years.
Like other plants, poppies need to be watered, although scarcely. Poppies can withstand drought-like conditions. If it has rained recently, even within one week, the plants will most likely not need watering. They like the soil to be moist, not soaked.
The poppies are so delicate that heavy winds or even hard rain may end up harming them. While very beautiful, the poppy is a flower that should be considered part of a mixture of other flowers instead of grown just on its own. Since it is easy to cultivate, they make a great addition to any garden.
Good Idea to do for many plants which seeds are spread.

I have tried now the past 2 years to grow poppy's and have had no luck. Maybe the whole thing I'm doing wrong is I'm not scattering the seed....I was digging a little hole and buring them. HHHHMMMM
I even tried digging some up and transplanting them and that didn't work
My friends poppy's grow wild and out of control. She's got them everywhere and does nothing to them
I intend to plant more poppies in a couple months. I get the feeling I can plant them at any time of the year. Horticulturists say the seeds should sit on the ground for a winter season.
I can't wait.

Reason: added an enlightening thought
Speaking of flowers...I have some pictures of my double poppies, iris' and a lot of others I would like to share. Where can I post them? Every year my flower beds change. For the past two years I have had issues maintaining the large areas I have due to a few NASTY weeds I can't get rid of, not to mention a back that won't allow me to do much. But still I would love to share some pictures of when it did look nice. I have them saved to my photobucket account. Maybe I will just include the links:
You certainly can post your photos in your photo album here on the theBubbler.
Alternatively, if you click on the little yellow post card with the mountain and stamp icon, a window will appear that allows you to paste that photobucket link. Be sure to resize your photo to fit the website format. I use the tool provided by PhotoBucket. I use the 'Direct Link' option after resizing the photo to "Website/Email" size.
I'm doing this one in a quick reply. If I were using "Reply" feature, I would take the time to center the photo in the post. When using a "Quick Reply", after you finish filling in the blanks, select the "Preview Post" option. When the preview comes up, you will be able to center the photo in the post.
Poppies grow too well here, I have them growing everywere in the spring & even Mid summer............... all different colors & types too. White, Danish flang type, Purple & Pink, all the ones that die after flowering. They re-seed all over the place! Planted them 1-time , now I can't get rid of them, So I just let them Grow now. Stoped fighting them.
When we first moved here we use to have quite a lot of poppies but they seem to have thinned out a lot over the years and now it seems not to many show up. Think I will have to look into planting some more and see what happens.
I don't know a whole lot about them, but poppy's come in various colors? I know our flowers were all orange but I thought I saw on seed packets one time that you can get them in other colors? Just wondering.
