Making your own zen garden or garden get away?

Has anyone done this? I am very interested in building a zen garden, or alittle garden get away here on my homestead, but really don't know the first thing about it. I have been to other homes where they have beautiful little get away gardens, but I guess I am alittle nervous to get started. My luck with plants is alittle on the "death's door" side. Honestly. Plants see me coming at the nursery, and they shove one another in front of each other just so I don't pick them. :lol: Or they fake "dead" when I pick them up. :lol:
Am really interested in making a garden of this type, so if any Wisconsinites have any ideas to help me actually get this off the ground I would be very appreciative.

Check those out - that's what I got when I "googled" it. My sister is really good at things like this, she's a natureopathic doctor. I on the other hand, think of gardening as putting flowers in a vase.

Thanks for the tip. I have googled and jeeved till the cows come home. Looking for ideas for our weather type. I am not the greatest of handypeople(but I try)I want to lay bricks, and build a fence... and need plants that won't leave me in the winter,for that great big garden in the sky.
I'll try the googling again.(that sounds kinda sassy when you say it like that :wink: )

This is very interesting. When I have more time I will also look at these websites more.

I have an area off my deck on the side of the house that I have always wanted to make a nice private area with plants. It is fenced on two sides at the corner and the house on the third side and is somewhat narrow. It has two different set of steps down from the deck onto it. It would make a perfect space to use.

That is what I am thinking too. Building a fenced in area, and just going wild in those 4 walls. :lol:
