Computer problems? questions? Get them answered>>>
Many of us may know of this and many may not...WGN AM 720 radio from chicago...have a couple hosting "Life After Dark' with ohosts Steve and Johnnie, nightly except weekends...Their shows are really interesting..for those into CARS...Tuesday nights (late night) they do a weekly road test where they drive and rate new cars aiding you in your next car decision...RADIO ROAD TESTS:
WGN Radio - Radio Road Tests
The part I LOVE is Wednesday nights....called' Website Wednesday night'...where they have local computer folks, (owners of stores, in the area etc) who answer questions from callers regarding problems they are having with their computer....this is awesome folks! of course for the insomniac as I am..lol!
ok first there is link here to listen online to the station:
WGN Radio - Listen Online!
their Blog after dark:
WGN Radio - Blog After Dark
Cyber Squad:
WGN Radio - Cyber Squad
of course nothing is better than listening live....maybe even get some of your own questions answered!
enjoy!
(Steve has Celiac Disease, we almost lost him...due to this he now has tons of info onsite regarding this disease..) These guys are great!!

Re: Computer problems? questions? Get them answered>>>
I've just gone thru weeks of my computer crashing, blue screens, locking up, you name it.
Smart kid figured out last night it all revolved around one program...that I just bought then the troubles started.
Does anyone use Defender Pro 15 in 1? My rating on it is HORRIBLE.
Several times reformating my hard drive, several times of just trying to repair windows...which led to reformating cuz nothing else worked....
I run XP Professional with service pack 2. Defender Pro is suppose to be compatable with my system...but it's not.
Now the fun part....lets see if I can return this program to Wal-mart ~ It dont work!

Thanks for the heads up on this program. I am not sure what it even is but if anyone suggests getting it I'll be sure to pass along your problems to them.

It's HORRIBLE!
It's called Defender Pro 2008, 15 in 1. Licensed for 3 computers
has anti-virus, pc back up, firewall, anti-spy, pc repair, pc recovery, anti-spam, private surf, data burner, drive defragger, uninstaller, id theft, ip spam stopper, file encryption, anti-scam and more....
The back of the box reads "Satisfaction 100% Guaranted"
We will see how far that gets me when I try to return it.
I could not even use their own uninstall program to remove this from my system because it would lock up my whole system.
I kept getting screen locks, blue screens, something about "line looping" whatever that ment.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!! I'd have been better off grabbing a freebee off the internet

You won't be able to return it to WalMart. There is a Federal law that prohibits the return of opened software. you will be able to exchange for the same item only. Yes you are better off with 2 of the freebie programs than defender. AVG antivirus can be found at free.grisoft.com and spybot search and destroy for spyware at The home of Spybot-S&D!
Your only recourse is to call the software vendor and hope that they back their guarantee.
If you want to use a subscription based anti virus, I recommend the following:
Kaspersky Anti Virus
NOD32
or the old standby, which may hog up your resources, but does work. Norton.
CA is acceptable as well, Panda is garbage, Mcaffee is ok when it works and doesnt eat up every resource your PC has.
Hope this helps,
Rob

Re: Computer problems? questions? Get them answered>>>
I returned it to Walmart no problems at all. I simply pointed out a spot on the back of box that said 100% satisfacation guaranteed. I was not satisfied and the person behind the counter let me return it and I got my $$ back.

Sometimes you can tell them you don't agree with the Terms of Service or End User License Agreement. My friend did this with some music editing software. Weather he kept it installed on his computer or not is beyond me. I use Ubuntu Linux. Since Windows ME 2 (Vista)'s release, I though darn, i dont wanna pay for that and i'm not in any need of a new computer, all the prior windows versions I have came installed on the computers. So i had a buddy give me some advice on another Operating System. He sugested Ubuntu, its Like windows in many ways, but in my opinion and what ive noticed that you can really do some neat customizations. The nice thing is that you can keep windows and select which operating system you want to boot when you restart or turn on the computer. If your a gamer though Linux Ubuntu probably isn't for you. But with it you can get very powerful programming software, web design software, video editing software and various CAD programs and much much more. wow. I'm still in shock.
Sorry, sometimes i just trail off

Re: Computer problems? questions? Get them answered>>>
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 1999 when I still bought software, I purchased a package from a big box place ( I forgot the name) brought it home and attempted to install it many times with each attemp crashing my computer. I returned it and they wanted to replace it with the same. I asked them why they thought a new box would help and they did not like my remark. Disgruntled as they were I received my money back with a stern warning from the young clerk" don't let this happen again" I promised it NEVER would as I never returned to that store. They are no longer in business, gosh I felt bad when they closed ,like the time I got two candy bars out a a vending machine for the price of one .

Re: Computer problems? questions? Get them answered>>>
without knowing it my brother got the same program when he purchased his computer from Best Buy. Many computer troubles ~ mainly crashing. Got Smart Kid over there to fix the computer. It just became easier to zap the hard drive clean and start over. When Smart Kid put in the disk that the "Geek Squad" made for my brother with the drivers etc on it....it was blank. Smart kid was able to find all drivers on the internet and got my brothers computer up and running. But when my brother took the blank disk back to Best Buy to get one with "something" on it, they argued with him that the disk was full and had on it what was needed. After some very stressful persisting someone from the Geek Squad put the disk in one of their computers...and guess what.... it was blank.
Problem now fixed and my brother wont be going thru the geek squad any more, he'll just call his nephew! Smart kid...........
