I figured I would share with theBubbler community my recent experience attempting to purchase a new PC. I'm hoping to keep some of you from falling for what I believe to be a scam. Feel free to PM me for more info!
Well, recently I decided to purchase a new PC as my home PC has started to get very sluggish as I do more and more complex tasks (as some of you know I am a computer programmer.) After shopping around a bit I decided to go with a PC from cyberpower. I was very happy with the system I put together on their online site and was also pleased I would be getting a free upgrade to Windows 7, as well as some nice rebates on certain parts.
As the days went by, my anticipation grew as I would check their website for status updates. They never updated my PC’s status on their website though. This morning I got an invoice in my email saying that my PC has shipped! As I was looking over the invoice, I noticed they had changed one of the major components of my PC without asking me. At first I thought it must be a mistake so I called them. It took several hours to get ahold of someone, but once I did I was speaking to a Danny Hua. I explained the situation to him, and he seemed unsurprised. He told me the part the replaced was equivalent… this simply was not the case. First of all the part I had requested costs significantly more due to being abetter component. Second the part I had ordered was eligible for a $50 rebate from the manufacturer. All and all I would be out essentually $150 if I accepted the PC as they built it! Yet they were expecting me to pay the same price. I explained that I didn’t want to do that. I suggested several ideas on how to make the situation right, but he did not want to and even laughed when I suggested they send me the PC I ordered with expedited shipping to make up for the wait I was having to experience.
By the time he hung up on me I was extremely frustrated. I posted on their site about my experience. One of their other representatives told me he would be contacting me. His name was John Yu. When he first talked to me he seemed like he was willing to make the situation right. He suggested sending me the component I ordered and that I could swap it out. I was fine with that and said so long as he sent it with expedited shipping I would be happy. He placed me on hold, only to come back and tell me they had discontinued the part. I suggested that rather then giving me a downgraded part they could offer me an upgrade. He told me that was also not a possibility. He then told me I should accept the PC they sent and see if I liked it. If I didn’t I could send it back! I said I would have to pay the shipping I’m sure and he said yes! So basically they wanted me to pay to ship back a system I didn’t order in the first place.
At this point John made some snippy comments on their website and closed my post even though it was not resolved to my satisfaction. He told me I would get a refund in up to a month!
Do NOT buy a PC from cyberpowerpc. I believe the company is a scam, and that the “reviews” they do have are nothing more then their own employees writing. They have terrible customer service and are willing to try and “sneak one by” the consumer. I am writing this in the hopes I can save some people the hassle I have had to go through while trying to buy a new PC.
