*77 Cell Phone Direct To STATE TROOPER

*77

I knew about the red light on cars, but not the *77.It was about 1:00 p.m.in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. *Lauren's parents have always told them never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc. *

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her! The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was located and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.

I never knew about the*77 Cell Phone Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe& place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them (i.e. put on your hazard lights) or call *77 like Lauren did.

Too bad the cell phone companies don't generally give you this little bit of wonderful information.

*Speaking to a service representative at ** Bell ** Mobility confirmed that *77 was a direct link to state trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about *77.

This story in itself may be a hoax, but I can assure you that if I was on a rural road, and some unmarked car with a flashing light came up on me (especially if I knew I did not do anything wrong), I would question it. If you can't call *77, than I would think calling 911 would be the next thing to do.

How do you know if this car is for real or a fake? It isn't that difficult to get a red flashing light and it would be a way for a person to use it to thus making yet another trusting person a vicitim.

So what are the choices and advice from others on this?

For that matter, you can't be one hundred percent positive about a marked car either. Even if it's a real cop and not a stolen car, you might still be at risk if you're alone. The original story may be a hoax but such things do happen, and not infrequently. I have been a counselor for many rape victims, male and female, and a fairly high percentage of them were raped by someone in high authority over them, a police officer or a judge, for example, or someone posing as such an authority. It's the obvious cover for a predator.

Personally, I would not be inclined to stop if I was alone in the car; I'd continue to a public location. I'd rather take the bigger ticket for failing to stop.

Not "really" a hoax...

This is not a 100% hoax as CreedFreed says.

Check out: http://www.hoax-slayer.com/issue59.html

Then, scroll down the page to read the article.

It depends on where in the world you are at that moment in need...

Best bet, put you hazards on, call 911 to verify it is a cop behind you and keep driving to a more populated area. You have a right to acknowledge the officer (if this is a real officer of the law), by putting on your hazards and continuing to drive to a more public area before pulling over.
