2006 Packer Season

So before the season starts lets hear what your predictions will be and any other comments regarding this years team. I hope they play better ball than last year! Im going to say the Pack will finish this coming year with a 9-7 record...well...thats what im hoping for...probably going to be more like 6-10 though. All depends on how they spend the money, hopefully they wont buy another Tony Manwich.

My opinion. There's going to be alot of turmoil with the new staff. It may take a season or two to get more wins than losses. On the other hand, the Packers have a good bit of "cap room" to play with. So it depends on who they get and how they fit into the new system, whatever it is. I'll update my opinion after the roster is settled and pre-season comes near.

Well.....

It don't look good. I think the inconsistant play of the offensive line with the new scheme of zone blocking will be our downfall. I'm afraid that the young coaching staff is in the "Brett will make something happen" mode. A first year head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator means everyone is learning the playbook from scratch.

The defense has alot of new faces as well. Another new sheme to learn.

The only thing going our way is a weak division. 3 out of 4 teams with new head coaches and staff. You'll certainly be able to tell which is the better new staff by who can get their team up and running first. You would think that with Favre we have an advantage, but I don't think so. With a new playbook, I'd rather see a steady, consistant leader that won't put it up for grabs or try to force something causing turnovers. Brett may feel this is his last chance to get another ring and may get desperate too often.

If the Bears fall on their face for some reason, we have a shot at the playoffs. We could get in with a 8-8 record. Hopefully playing good ball by playoff time. That means getting some lucky wins and beating our division opponents.

Bottom line: We'll have more losses than wins and everyone will be wondering if we should have just taken this year to get Rodgers in position to take over for the future.

But remember, there's more to a football team than the quarterback. That's one lesson all Packer fans should know by now. Think of how many Super Bowl winning quarterbacks had a less than impressive carreer.

The formula for winning is simple and has never really changed over the years regardless of fancy schemes and philosiphies. Strong defense and a good consistant running game. With that you don't need (or want) a gunslinger.

The Bears still suck...

The Bears still suck...and what does that say about the Packers?!

Favre's first shutout. Ouch.

Only Favre and Henderson left from Super Bowl success. Let's face it - the 'R' word...Rebuilding.

Great analysis above, kmfarm!

Regards,
Keith

Well........

I wasn't too far off. The Bears didn't fall on their face, although I think they will in the playoffs.

We did almost get in with an 8 and 8 record. Although I thought we would have more losses than wins. As a fan I'm glad, especially seeing the strength at the end of the season.

Is Brett done? Whatever. People come and go in football and life all the time. You have to find a way to move on regardless. It's not a one man team. I think that if the O line continues to improve, we may have a balanced offense that is cabable of taking the division. That's assuming we can get recievers who don't mind catching the ball for their pay.

The only place to focus on from the defensive side is the center of the front. We need a little more pressure there.

We'll see how it goes.

Early predictions for next year? Lions still suck (Thank God for Matt Millen). Vikings improve but not enough. Bears fail falling to 3rd in the division. Packers make it into the playoffs with a 10 and 6 record.

Crossing my fingers......
