Mixed feelings on the Pack

With the end of the 2008 season, I've got mixed feelings.

Glad we finally moved on with Rodgers. Offense did good enough to win more games. Defense was not. Special teams was abysmal.

The new upcoming defensive scheme, with new D.C. Dom Capers, will feature a 3/4 defense. This has me worried. In it's time it was popular and effective. But I think that it became outdated quite some time ago. With the Pack, it will be useless unless we have a much improved front line. With the 4 we had, our pressure wasn't there without a blitz. The 3/4 also demands an outstanding outside linebacker to make decisions on the fly. Think L.T. and the Giants. Never knew where he would line up or what he would do. That job needs speed, attitude and skill.

I don't see it right now. So my fear is that our defense will be in a state of training and "getting used to" the new system all year. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Special teams? It's one third of a team and it seemed like we treated it as an afterthought. We need alot more focus here. My belief is that we need a return specialist along with a good scheme. A good special teams package will make or break a team. It's often the difference between being a winning team or a losing one.

Looking forward to training camp already. I'm hoping Capers can whip the boys into shape. I don't think McCarthy had/has enough influence there.

Our division is still wide open for us to get back to the big one.

Dont worry i believe the draft will be good and rodgers will have a break out season this year

I agree. There's an alot of talent in the draft this year. I think Rodgers is getting a handle on his team.

The offensive line does need some help. Mark Tauscher is injured, and as age goes, it takes longer for the older players to heal.

I know what you guys are saying, but in my opinion, it doesn't rest on Rodgers. Just as it didn't really matter how "awesome" Favre was. Defense and a balanced strong run game wins championships.

When we won the last super bowl, it wasn't because of Favre, although all the Favre fanatics like to think so, it was because we had a top defense and a strong running game as well as a special teams crew that had you on your toes with every play.

I'm one of those guys who thinks the QB position is over-rated. That's why I was never really a Favre worshiper.

The draft is always a crap-shoot. I hate the money that's laid out for unproven and often poor playing rookies.

Wow. After the first 2 pre-season games, I'm impressed. Rodgers looks great. The running game is great. Takeaway turnovers galore. Lots of competition for a punter, that'll be big. I'll eat my words on the new defensive scheme. They look like they've been running it for years.

I think the Pack will be over-looked this year. But in the end, we might just be in the big one (fingers crossed).

I didn't see the O-line problems coming. Especially when Clifton gets hurt, the whole line has to shift positions. I don't get it.
