Manitowoc native Doug Free is considered to be among the top ten offensive linemen in this year's NFL Draft class. The left tackle is projected to be a second- or third-round pick next weekend.
Free was overlooked by most major colleges coming out of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. In fact, Northern Illinois was the only Division I school to offer him a scholarship.
At 6'7" and 318 pounds, he is a prototype tackle. Free put together a solid workout at the combine. He also impressed the NFL scouts at the East-West All-Star game.
"Coming out of Northern, we're in the Mid-American Conference, which is a growing conference but not the best well-known, so getting out there, playing against a defensive end from Texas and UCLA, it was a good opportunity to judge myself and gauge myself against others," Free said.
