A LITTLE OF FOND DU LAC
Here's your chance! If you live, work or play in Fond du Lac County, share your knowledge of the place with the rest of us!
Tell us, if you would, who are the wisest, oldest, funniest, most eccentric or otherwise unique individuals in your County that we should come to know.
THE ONLY WISE, OLD, FUNNY ECCENTRIC PERSON WHO LIVES HERE THAT I KNOW IS GRIFF. (WM. GRIFFITHS). HE IS A FINE-ART PROFESSOR, AND RECENTLY RETIRED FROM U.W. FOND DU LAC. 8O
HE KNOWS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EVERYTHING, (AND A LOT ABOUT ART!), IS A JEWELRY MAKER AND HAS HAD HIS ART IN SHOWS AS FAR AWAY AS JAPAN, AND IS MORE THAN HAPPY TO TELL YOU HOW IT IS (NOT HIS OPINION, BUT HOW IT IS!)
IF YOU DONT MIND SOME STRAIGHT-TALK WITH SOME STREET WORDS MIXED IN, YOU SHOULD TALK TO HIM. HE HAS THAT OLD HIPPIE LOOK, BUT IS REALLY SWEET INSIDE (COURSE ID NEVER ADMIT THAT TO HIM)
Please tell us the best place to eat, to drink, to play softball, have a picnic, camp, hunt or fish.
EAT- THE CEDAR LODGE (NORTH ALONG THE EAST SIDE OF LAKE WINNEBAGO ON HWY 151 IN CALUMETVILLE)**N10872 Hwy 151 Malone, WI**795-4574-- STEAK LIKE NOWHERE ELSE! AND LOTS OF OTHER STUFF TOO OF COURSE.- SMALL, CROWDED, AND WORTH THE WAIT! ohya, Sunday morning people-- special breakfast buffet!!
- THE FREIGHT HOUSE IN NORTH FOND DU LAC--- NORTH ON WISCONSIN AVE. NORTH OF THE "DOWNTOWN" AREA, ON THE RIGHT - **44 Marcoe St. **921-0058--NEXT TO CHARLIE'S TAP BAR-- GOOD PRICES, GREAT RIBEYE, PRIME RIB, FRI.FISH, SUN. CHICKEN.......TERRY THE BARTENDER IS FUNNY AND MAKES AWESOME DRINKS! (SCREWDRIVERS FOR SURE) VERY ACCOMIDATING AND FRIENDLY STAFF
- DRINKING? UGH. HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS? OF BARS - SALTY'S SEAFOOD AND SPIRITS HAS GREAT DRINKS (AND SEAFOOD) BY THE ENTRANCE TO LAKESIDE PARK **503 N. Park Avenue**922-9940- WHICH TURNS INTO HWY 151- CORNER OF SCOTT N PARK AVENUE. HAVE A "HURRICANE"- THEY'RE ALL RUM AND FRUIT JUICE AND YOU GET TO KEEP THE CUP  VERY NAUTICAL!!!
-FOR A COMMUNITY PLACE FULL OF ANYONE AND ANYTHING.... ARBUCKLE'S SALOON can't be beat! **213 S. Main St.**921-7292. A REAL MENAGERIE OF CUSTOMERS- IF YOU HAVE AN OPEN MIND AND AREN'T SCARED OF WEIRDOS, CORNER OF 5TH AND MAIN ST. IN FOND DU LAC, LOUD MUSIC, OLD ROCK N ROLL, GREAT JUKEBOX, FRIENDLY OWNER OF LIKE 25 YRS., LIVE BANDS ON WEEKENDS, AND THURS. NIGHT IS OPEN MIC. NIGHT- GET UP AND PLAY SOMETHING! 8)
-I PLEAD THE 5TH ON BARS IN GENERAL THO- I DON'T WANT ANY TROUBLE!
(YOU CAN PM ME IF YOU REALLY WANT INFO ABOUT ANY BAR HERE!!!)
Any "must-see" landmarks? Points of interest? Any great collections, whether mainstream or offbeat? What's the best way to go about experiencing them?
YOU HAVE TO GO TO LAKESIDE PARK- IT'S HUGE, ON THE LAKE (MAYBE THAT'S WHY ITS NAMED THAT  )
THERE IS A TRAIN RIDE, MERRY GO ROUND, HUGE AREA OF PLAYGROUND STUFF- SWINGS, STUFF TO CLIMB ON, ETC. THERES A LIGHTED FOUNTAIN, A GAZEBO (WHERE NEWLYWEDS HAVE PICTURES TAKEN A LOT), A COVERED BRIDGE, PLENTY OF DUCKS AND GOOSEPOOP, LOTS OF WALKING TO DO! ALSO YOU CAN GO UP INSIDE THE LIGHTHOUSE (STAIRS) AND STAND ON TOP - YES THERE IS A RAILING, JUST DON'T LEAN OVER IT! IT'S OPEN DURING THE WARMER SEASONS AND FREE
ALL ON THE FAR NORTH END OF THE CITY OF FOND DU LAC- MAIN STREET AND SCOTT STREET BOTH RUN INTO IT
THEY HAVE BALL DIAMONDS THERE, BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT THE SCHEDULES ARE. LOTS OF ADULT LEAGUES.
THERE ARE PAVILIONS IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A PICNIC AND IT RAINS, AND LOTS OF GROUND SPACE FOR LAYING IN THE GRASS.
NICE BOAT HARBOR, AND BOATHOUSES :P
FOND DU LAC REALLY IS A NICE FRIENDLY PLACE!!!!!!!!- AND RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
