Arrow Fly Fishing in Wisconsin

Got any great fly fishing stories to relate?

In all the years I've been fishing, I've never given fly fishing a try but would like to.. got any special tips for a beginner?

Where is the best fly fishing in Wisconsin?

From mnflyfishing on YouTube:

From paulstil on YouTube:

We have been fly-fishing the Big Green River in southwest Wisconsin for over 16 years. We have some favorite spots and this video shows a favorite location .

"Brothers of the Fly" at it again - this time in the North Western part of Wisconsin on that most holy of waters...

Re: Fly Fishing in Wisconsin

I love fly fishing and do it religiously. The best advice I could give to a beginner is go to a fly shop and talk to one of the employees. The guys in these shops bleed fly fishing and will help you with everything from set up to technique and usually these shops have a great cup of coffee while they're helping you out (when i am not fishing i spend my time at them drinking their coffee that is why I know). Another tip is to get some books. There are all types of good books out there to help the beginner as well as the most seasoned veteran.

I won't give specific streams to fish, but i will tell you southeastern Wisconsin, northwestern Iowa, and southwestern Minnesota is some of the best trout fishing in the country, especially for fly fishing and a new beginner. The streams are pretty open for backcasts and there are anywhere from 2,500 to 7,000 trout per mile in the streams. Almost any stream you wet your feet in will have trout in that area.

It is a relaxing and addicting sport that I love dearly. I wish you the best of luck in your venture.

tight lines, clifford

Re: Fly Fishing in Wisconsin

Thanks for weighing in, Clifford.. I usually plunk a worm on a hook and throw it in but have always been interested in fly fishing but have not yet attempted it. I even owned a great fly rod and reel once with every intention of using it someday.

I love to fish and live near some great trout fisheries in my part of the country (SW Missouri). Have seen many a trout under the canoe while on the river too!

Will have to give it a go one day!
