Re: Fly Fishing in Wisconsin
I love fly fishing and do it religiously. The best advice I could give to a beginner is go to a fly shop and talk to one of the employees. The guys in these shops bleed fly fishing and will help you with everything from set up to technique and usually these shops have a great cup of coffee while they're helping you out (when i am not fishing i spend my time at them drinking their coffee that is why I know). Another tip is to get some books. There are all types of good books out there to help the beginner as well as the most seasoned veteran.
I won't give specific streams to fish, but i will tell you southeastern Wisconsin, northwestern Iowa, and southwestern Minnesota is some of the best trout fishing in the country, especially for fly fishing and a new beginner. The streams are pretty open for backcasts and there are anywhere from 2,500 to 7,000 trout per mile in the streams. Almost any stream you wet your feet in will have trout in that area.
It is a relaxing and addicting sport that I love dearly. I wish you the best of luck in your venture.
