Provolone, Prosciutto & Balsamic Onion Pizza

Description
This item will satisfy the most discriminating pizza pallet.
Ingredients
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large sweet or yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 (12 inch) prepared pizza crust
  • 8 slices of aged provolone cheese, divided
  • 1 1/2 oz. thinly sliced prosciutto or smoked ham, cut into strips
  • 3 Tbsp. freshly chopped basil
  • 4 oz. fresh sliced mushrooms
Preparation
  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and sliced mushrooms; cover and cook 3 minutes. Uncover skillet; cook onion and mushrooms, stirring frequently, until very tender, about 10 minutes. Add vinegar, continue cooking 1 minute or until vinegar is absorbed.
Instructions
  1. Place 4 slices cheese on crust. Spread with onions; top with prosciutto strips, basil and remaining cheese slices. Bake pizza (directly on oven rack, baking sheet, or pizza stone in a preheated 450 degree f oven for 10 minutes or until crust is golden brown, and cheese has melted.
  2. Mushrooms can be added and sautee to taste with the onions.
