Rarely do hear the term "getting away from it all" in Door County but this park does that for you. Don't bother brining your pop-up,travel trailer,or hybrids as this is a backpack only park. Everything must be carried in and out but that is the price you pay for ABSOLUTE SOLITUDE. Each camp site is positioned in way that you get the feeling of being the only one there. Each camp site has metal food vault to protect for marauding wildlife. The rocky shoreline alone with the trails though the woods provides a very nice "get away from it all". Bring your own TP as the supply is not always replished in a timely fashion.
Can you survive a weekend with only the bare essentials?
Try the Newport chyallange, the closest site is one mile from the parking lot.

Glad to hear there are places to store food besides bear bags.

There are evergreen and hardwood forests, wetlands, and upland meadows. The park has an interpretive center and naturalist program.

Newport offers 38.3 miles of trails, all of them open for hiking. Of these, 16.8 miles also are open to off-road bicycles. In the winter, 26.3 miles of trails are available for cross-country skiing, including, 12.5 miles groomed and tracked for classical skiing and 2 miles groomed for skate skiing, and 4.5 miles are open for snowshoeing.

Newport has 16 backpack campsites, 13 of which can be reserved. The park also offers winter backpack camping.

Yes that is me , loaded down and ready to camp.
That was 8 years ago, I am not sure I could handle it anymore but I would like to give it a go. My wife has mentioned doing it again , pehaps this summer.
Don't you just love Door County shorelines?

I came up with this cool way to store my backpack while camping and keep it dry. Perhaps I should take a few pic and post it here. :wink:
