Do you walk your dog or does he walk you? Leash or no leash? Does he (or she) have a favorite route or "stopping" spot?
My ex-girlfriend's dog Rascal (a Shih Tzu) used to love his walks.. he'd either sit next to the door and give it a few quick scratches or give your pant leg a couple pats to let you know he was ready for his walk. I never used a leash and we always took the same route around the block. The next block over had a median with trees and bushes and he'd go "scout" those out while going about his business.
As he got older, he'd tire about half-way and would ask to be picked up and carried back. Poor little guy!
